Big Ange...would you?

Post stubbo-admin »

If Potter was to be gone...would you go for Big Ange?  Yes he's a recent Spurs hero (cue Ferret jumping on this thread) but if the managers out there he feels like the one that would suit us the most.

We certainly don't have a squad capable of playing a 'dig in' backs to the wall type job, so we may as well go gung ho.  Aguerd has recovery pace, Todibo has recovery pace, Diouf has recovery pace, and so does Wan Bissaka when his brain is in gear.   On that basis a super high line gives our slow mids less of the pitch to have to try and cover, plus the biggest talent/most high calibre in our squad (Paqueta, Bowen and Füllkrug) would at least have a chance to shine. On top of that, his attitude and approach to the game is inherently 'West Ham'.  Take it to them regardless, score more than they do, etc. There, for me, is way more to be said for an Ange style manager, than there is for someone like Nuno should he get the sack, and our squad looks far worse for someone like that who looks to sit deep and counter at speed.

Plus when we get relegated...big Ange would likely tear the Championship a new one (since he always wins in his 2nd season).

So...big Ange? I'd be all in on that.

I suspect that even the biggest egoed "I'll show 'em, I'll be the one who turns West Ham around" manager has realised that going up against Sullivan and the board is a battle they'll never, ever win, let alone doing something against the 19 teams that are meant to be our opponents: "Go Dave! Go! You Da Maaan!!! You sho' dem man'gers who de boss!".

You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about your failed life in Australia
All that teasing about your sandals & socks & knotted handkerchief on your head seems like it wore you down
No I don't have a chip I just said that big Ang managed Australia, you now sporting rivals of us English I even said in a sporting terms, he also managed those North London cunts, you know our sporting rivals, as someone who likes Rangers ditto Celtic. It's normal for someone English and a West Ham fan to be against Australia and Spurs... So if anyone has a chip it's you because I didn't mention Australia as a country just as a sporting team.. Was you deported too for the same reasons as you're just as British as me, like I said I mentioned Australia at sport which was relevant to the discussion.... I feel it is you that has the chip on his shoulder and got all defensive...

Oh and if you think I look like or dress like that you don't have a clue... Ask someone who's met me... '67 has a few times

You know as much about Australia as you do everything else, I'd say definitely more junkies in Australia than here.

He actually did a very good job with Australia … won the Asian Cup which is only tournament win ever & qualified Australia for the 2018 World Cup. Didn’t take the team to the tournament as he didnt think Football Australia were serious about developing the game beyond ‘just’ qualifying for World Cups
Can only do the jobs you are given and he has won things in Australia, Japan , Scotland & England
Think Potter won the IKEA Cup in Sweden & nothing else
Thats the trophy you have to assemble yourself

Wouldn’t want Postecogolou
We need the buffoon Sullivan & his fraud offsider Lady Botox out so proper owners can appoint football people and an appropriate manager with a plan
Why are you so sensitive that I chose to leave Australia to live back here when that is exactly what you did while pretending to be an Aussie that's baffling.

I can’t stand the bloke, but frankly I’d struggle to name many managers I wouldn’t take over pathetic Potter.

I cannot tolerate the passing for passing’s sake, with no idea how to attack while still being abysmal defensively. It’s absolutely woeful to watch, and he’s too spiky and stubborn to change it.

I just can’t believe how wrong they get it every time, and then I can’t believe how long it takes them to accept the mistake, draw a line under it and move on. It’s always “three games to turn it around”.

I really don’t know. He got it horribly wrong at spurs (in the league) with a better squad. We are already looking horribly wrong. I guess who knows at the end of the day it can’t get any worse for us and the football may improve but on paper how do two horribly wrongs make a right?

I would have taken him like a shot if we'd sacked Potter in June and given Ange a pre-season and involvement in transfer decisions, which is what we should have done. I'd still take him now to be honest, although it would make things more difficult, he's still a better option than most of the out of work managers Sully would probably choose from.

Even if we were to go down I'd sooner we go down attacking rather than meekly surrendering behind Potter's crab-ball or Nuno's Moyesball Mk2.

Thanks for the recommendation BerlingtonBumBoy but they couldn’t afford me

Ange is obviously a better manager than CockPissPotter the effeminate English metrosexual but Sullivan’s next choice will be another dullard like Dyche, Allardyce or Moyes

Short term he'd create a bounce but west ham needs a man with a plan and a project. Someone on the up.
He'll be sitting on his arse enjoying the payoff for the next while anyway

Right now? Yeah. Probably our best chance of staying up under these circumstances TBH. This is how far it’s sunk that I think that. We’ve regressed to where we were in 2010 in terms of what feels necessary to get us back to a place where we can look up instead of down.

note- I mean the fat Sam of 15 years ago, not the fat Sam of now who has been out of the game and just wouldn’t be as effective.

I wouldn’t WANT him, but short term we probably need someone of his ilk and it’s probably all we’d have to choose from anyway. We need a nasty streak, shithousery and to be competitive. Some agricultural football. Compact, deep and looking to get the ball to Paqueta to spring Bowen Guilherme and Summerville on the break. God that’s depressing but with the players we have assuming we can’t get anyone in of note, that feels like the only option.

In theory, I would love a manager like Ange mate with an attacking, cavalier attitude. However, I don’t think we have the players to make this work. We need pace in the team and we need creativity. It would be a disaster. Then again, we need pace in the team now, and it is still a disaster, but one where we surrender meekly rather than going out guns blazing, even if the bullets are blanks.

It’s too late to get the players in that a new manager would want. The best we can do is get some quality midfielders in and hope that Potter grows a pair and actually tries to win games.

At very best you may get an initial bounce but that’s about it.
