Macaulay is essentially head of talent identification. If deals are for players we've identified for months and are only just getting done, that's always been on the dwarf.
The thing with this though, it's not like you identify a player and just go out and buy him for his RRP like at a shop. There has to be constant weighing up of how much you're willing to pay and any amount over an initial bid may impact on who else can come in, depending on the budget restraints.
Potter has already stated that he wanted Macauley to act as a conduit so he doesn't have to have conversations about recruitment and can focus on tactics, training, etc. That means that even when we finally make an initial approach that there's a constant back and forth relay running between Potter, Macauley and Sullivan on our side as well as the selling club, the player and his agent on the other. This is one of the reasons that it works better and certainly faster to have a Director of Football who both makes the recruitment decisions and handles all the negotiations.

Re: Welcome Soungoutou Magassa!
Yes Stubbo, April it was posted on X or via one of his stooges, that he had taken over the DOF role again. The fact that Steidten was never a fully fledged DOF in the first place seemed to go unnoticed by most though and especially the media. I guess it didnt fit the narrative that Sullivan had spun about all West Ham's problems being caused by having a DOF. Steidten and before him Hussilos. Again Hussilos was not a DOF but people always seem to get fooled by the obfuscation techniques of Sullivan
Sullivan never fully committed or implemented a proper DOF role and has never given anyone that job title. The fact that the supporting infrastructure is not implemented either or should I say half implemented ( smallest scouting network, handful of data analysts compared to most top tier clubs) and of course no long term plan or strategy for a DOF to work to, also goes unnoticed. Sullivan's Circus it continues to be.

Nonetheless, lets hope he’s a big success from the outset. He’s a big unit, a number 6, not sure about his athleticism and pace but from YouTube highlights reel it looks like he can get across the pitch pretty quickly.
Now we just need a number 8, CB and striker.
I don't like him as much as the next, but hard to deny that he said he'd get 'stuck in' and literally hours later we sign one player and are about to sign another.

Most ignore him now, which he'll hate.
He'll just ramp up the bullshit he writes and then eventually get banned and come back under another username and it'll be rinse and repeat again.
What an existence.
Yup exactly. He usually just starts calling people names at this point to try and get a rise out of someone. A sad existence.

Re: Welcome Soungoutou Magassa!
I'd be amazed if we see him doing the crossed hammers in front of the training ground portakabin.
Re: Welcome Soungoutou Magassa!
He’s gonna need another decent defensive midfielder alongside him and another attack minded midfielder who has pace, strength and can carry the ball. Basically a complete new midfield for him to operate in to have any chance of success.

He asked what time West Ham kick off?
Every ten minutes was the answer.
