Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Never know who to believe these days, one minute Paqueta is appreciative of the club standing by him throughout the betting saga next you are receiving rumours that he is off.

Back tracking.?

Yeah I think Sullivan wants to sell and I expected him to go but I never once thought Paqueta was instigating it.

Apparently a Brazilian sports paper has said that he is open to the move but happy to let the club decide if they want to sell him...

The idea of loaning Paqueta on the last day of the window is insane
Which makes it likely to happen under Sullivan

We need another midfielder and a couple of centre halves & strikers
THAT is what we should be doing tomorrow
Heavy defeat today & could be looking for a new manager tomorrow as well

Sadly I think from his point of view he had a life changing move all agreed and then spent 2 yrs in a fucked up situation. I think I'd be a bit paranoid of something else falling through tbh. Plus his agent wants the money he would have got 2 yrs ago I imagine, and so does Sullivan.

I suppose it's all inevitable really. I just think he should wait for City or another big team. I dont think another season with us will change much for him.

The thing that is probably pushing him is that he probably thinks the team aren't going anywhere with Potter or Potter isnt even going to be around. So I can understand him wanting to go asap.

I just cant believe we have lost Kudus, Alvarez and looking like Paq and Aguered. How does a club lose that many great players in one go?? Is the bubbles song really just a big curse we keep singing to ourselves every other week???

I think he’s been shit for ages now. Gives the ball away and rolls around pretending to be injured. So not fussed him leaving once we spend the money to replace him.

saying that, it is a slap in the face, after standing by him through the betting saga.

Don't understand saying Paqueta is lazy. He always puts in a shift, unfortunately often a headless chicken shift, but he aint lazy. Two goals in 2 games is promising, I really think he is on his way back to being the player he was with us in his 1st year.

We have PSR headroom but that doesn't mean we have Cash in the bank or that we don't have a storm brewing. This is the last year Declan's transfer sits on the books, balancing last year's spend up out.

Next year, that 100m of revenue vanishes and the reality of us still owing transfer fees of more than a hundred million bites with little to off set it.

Pretty sure it's why we've been culling wages this year. The need for a big sale each year is simply reality...not for us, but for all clubs in the league. Because you get revenue on the books in year one, but you don't get all the cash in year one. And the debt you accrue is spread.

PSR is fucked up. Were affected like many others...especially Villa who are you against it. We don't have PSR concerns this season....but I think you might find it's a different story next season.
I think it rewards smart forward thinking owners who strive for a sensible sustainable player trading and good scouting and player development and actually is a good set of guidelines to point clubs toward that- and it’s not exactly handicapping ‘small’ clubs with smart football administrators at the helm with several able to punch well above their weight.

It penalises idiot backward owners like ours who are unable to formulate any long term or sensible/sustainable plans. It’s Sullivan’s absolute kryptonite for his ‘business model’.

It does mean all clubs need to make tough decisions on selling players they may ideally want to keep but to an extent it prevents stockpiling of talent.

Sir Alf" wrote: 31 Aug 2025, 09:21 Based on what we’ve seen of Paqueta last 2 seasons and even 3 games of this season ( after bet fix allegations cleared ) he is losing the ball far too often and struggling with the lack of time and space. But thats imo because he’s not played in his best position deeper as an 8. Potter, like Moyes and Loppy did a few times, have this notion that because he’s creative with passes thru the lines and ability to chip balls thru etc, that he has to be a no 10 attacking midfielder. His best form ever was at Lyon as a deeper lying midfielder. He doesnt have the pace to play on the half turn or carry the ball. He likes a bit more time and tries to protect the ball and gets that more with the play in front of him and not with his back to goal.  With Fernandes and Magassa coming in he could be one to rotate with Fernandes who also is more of a number 8 although can play as a 10. So imo we need another midfielder who is good at running at defences in the number 10 role to create chances, score goals etc. Timber seems the ideal fit from what we read and video clips. His big issue has been injuries or he would be at a top CL level team I suspect.

Long story short, sell him if we can get a proper attacking midfielder like this Tomber geezer. Itherwise he stays
Much as I dislike the football, he's actually currently our best. Number 9 for what Potter is trying to do.

Losing him is like losing 4 player options from the squad...a number 8, 9, 10 and a wide left attacker.

His versatility, ball recovery, progressive passing and general talismanic role within the squad and the Club are all things that are not easily replaced.

Yup. The time for projects was two years ago for them to be coming to fruition now. Sullivan just can’t work in those timeframes. It seems. Unable to think past the next six months or spend money he won’t see some sort of return on in that space.

There have been countless opportunities to invest in young talent. Moyes was hugely at fault for this, never thinking past the immediate.

The big thing I was hoping for from Potter and the reason I assume he and Macaulay were hired was for us to be shopping in the ‘potential’ pool. They haven’t had a chance yet seen as it’s been panic stations before and the entire time they’ve been here. If we pick up with what we are getting at the last minute now there is still hope that this could come to fruition.

I DESPISE the notion that Sullivan is taking that he’s digging us out of this mess though. He could have gone and got Fernandes for this money a month ago but was pissing about lowballing them to the detriment of his team and manager. All he’s doing is correcting his own mistakes and cheapness at the last possible minute.
But this is our whole problem isn't it, it is never the right time to start a proper visionary project that will look way into the future and establish how we want to play and where we want to go. It is always fire fighting or handing over to some manger we get on the cheap who promised to get us playing great entertaining football, but whom always seem to fuck up and get us close to relegation. When does it stop? How about now? Get a serious management team together and get to work.

Politely, Mex, I disagree completely.

There have been periods when we were well set and SHOULD have started a longer-term plan, with a progressive young manager etc. After Bilic went, for example (before Pellegrini). After Moyes left the second time, for example (before Loppy). After Pards was sacked, even. On each occasion, we had a decent enough core of players - or the money, or both - to be less worried about relegation threats etc.

So, you're right in that sense. That's when you build your club and show some patience. Because you can afford to.

But there have also been occasions when, because the squad has been so poor, or we've been skint, what we've needed was a problem solver. Somebody to make order from chaos, and who can grind out results against better opponents on a tighter budget. And I'd say we're in that place right now.

If we lose to Forest on Sunday (hopefully we won't), I genuinely think Potter should go. Personally, I don't think he's any good - and he's certainly struggling to make order from chaos. But if we sacked him while bottom of the league and shipping almost four goals a game, that is NOT the time to appoint another "project" manager who will need time, money, a clean slate and a long run-up at the job. That is exactly when you appoint a firefighter. Because you're in a relegation fight at that stage, and five-year plans go out of the window unless you build in the possibility that you might spend some of it in the Championship.

We're a really poor side right now. Hopefully, the new lads will improve us.

As Stubbo also said, we need a permanent structure above the manager a proper Director of Football with control of everything and a long term vision now. We cannot keep going like this with Sullivan. I am really pleased that this is the aim of the protests Hammers United are organising.
