I have had the pleasure of visiting your atheletics stadium in the freezing cold a couple if years back just before Christmas. It wasn't for an Ebbsfleet game sadly, but for a pre-Xmas piss up. (Pick a match, get pissed, eat curry, retire.) You have a very good pub near the ground in which I drank too much before and after the game. Your bar if I remember correctly was a bit small but pretty welcoming and there were tins of beer for sale at a table outside.
Now, it's good to see you support your local team, but as for the mullering we are supposed to expect next week, well, on that we'll have to agree to differ. We were, it's true to say, shite last season - I know, I travelled to Gateshead for our first game to see us destroyed 5 goals to 1. But this season Josh Wright has put a team together which is able to compete with any of the teams in this division. If I manage to make it to the game, I will be wearing a morning coat and red carnation. The Optimist is good pub near ours but most go in The Windmill
Bar is ok at the stadium and new system returnable plastic beer jugs for £1 which the kids pick up and get the dosh
Could you recommend a good pub near your ground..cheersThat is genuinely a difficult one. The club would like me to say The Rose, which is very close to the ground and has been owned by the club since a few months back. Away supporters welcome, there's never much trouble at the Fleet. Nearby there is little choice nowadays and as I travel in from Essex, all the places I used to go as a kid are not what they were, if they are even still open. If you go to Greenhithe there are a couple of waterside pubs still, the Pier Hotel was the one I used to go to many years back. It's probably gentrified now but then you would have a long detour as the main road between Greenhithe / Swanscombe and Northfleet literally collapsed a couple of years back and they don't know what to do about it.
For proximity Ye Olde Leather Bottle would be about the nearest but I haven't been in there for years. You might need to drive and park at Ebbsfleet station afterwards as it's a good 15 / 20 minute walk. £3 for parking, everyone uses it.
Further away in Gravesend - My personal choice would be the Jolly Drayman in Gravesend. Check it out online before you go. It's an old building, very low ceilings but they keep their beer well. The Three Daws has a waterside view and a bit of history to it but I don't use it.
If you like exploring, try the Ship and Lobster (Charles Dickens shat there once or something). It is in the middle of nowhere down a road through an industrial area past the canal basin. It was still going last year. Again the beer is usually good but you really are in the back end of beyond. It overlooks the Thames and the wharf which used to be the one supplying the Falklands. Google maps is your friend but it's nowhere near the ground and you may be the only person there. Don't go out on the marshes after dark etc. One for the purists.
Sorry I can't be of more assistance. The Windmill was excellent for the matchday at your place by the way.

Re: What other sports teams do you support
Essex CCC. Although it lapsed many years ago, I was a member for a long time.
And oddly,
Boston Red Sox from my first visit to the U.S. when I knew nothing about Baseball and tried to understand the appeal. I read about the Red Sox 'Curse of the Bambino' and how they always flattered to deceive and how they always shot themselves in the foot, and I recognised an instant affinity with my football team. Then C4 started showing games, and I really got into it. Then the Red Sox got good. Not seen a game for a long time since it moved off terrestrial but I still check to see how the Sox are doing.

Re: What other sports teams do you support
Collingwood are one of the biggest sides in AFL! Not sure they have gone through any rebranding?
You maybe got your wires crossed Gank son, a few clubs have relocated from Melbourne to other city’s as the league expanded to other states, the Sydney Swans used to be the South Melbourne Cunts
well maybe not the “cunts” but you get the gist…,,
I actually don’t like the Swans at all, even though I have lived in Sydney most of my adult life, when I first arrived they had a star player, right show pony, tight white shorts, white boots and long blond hair, looked a right mincer, always in the news so since then have always hope they lose, Spurs of the AFL

What do you mean by Collingwood rebranding?
They are still the Magpies. Usually shortened to Pies

Re: What other sports teams do you support
Used to go to Gillingham with my mates as it was a short hop on the train but always hated them and wanted them to lose. My firm used to sponsor Ebbsfleet so I'd be there a lot but entertaining clients and getting on the free gatters so never really cared about the match. Used to live right by Chatham Town's ground so went there a lot and still look out for their results.
Outside of football, I always want Wexford to win in the GAA and Macklins to win in the netball.
My old man's firm used to sponsor Salford Red Devils Rugby League so used to have all the merchandise given to me so liked them but never went.
Can't stand cricket or any of the yank sports.
Used to be interested in Collingwood Magpies but they've rebranded and I'm not interested any more.
Why do you want to know, anyway? Nosey bastard.

At least since our drop into the National League South I have been able to enjoy a beer whilst watching the game. There is a faint possibility I may drop in at Hampton and Richmond at the weekend, should things go to plan. Last season I visited Wealdstone but no sign of the Raider. Didn't realise he posted on here. Very nice 2nd hand record shop on the High Street which turned out being the highlight of the day.

Hybrid is the current model with mixed training (mornings and evenings) but this also allows for players who have full time jobs.
Its normaly a decent game against the fleet and I guess what you really need is a period of stability like with any club.
The important thing with any model at lower league is that it is sustainable and not boom or bust.
There is certainly a lot of money floating about in your league this season and players are signing for the likes of Chelmsford rather than coming to us as the wages are better and this has made the recruitment process harder for sure.
Another club that is attracting a lot of interest at the moment is Real Bedford with its bitcoin and you tube millionaire owners who are looking to buy their way up the pyramid.
.
Who are your main Kent / local rivals these days ?Fucking Maidstone.
Dartford are our traditional rivals really and there is some animosity there but I respect their set up. Build a new ground with a car park and two huge bars and pull the pints as fast as you can. However, Maidstone have been in our league more often recently and we lost to them in the cup last season. There is an antipathy towards Gillingham but like many from the area, I grew up going to games at the Fleet and less frequently at the Priestfield stadium. Went there in the snow for a cup game with West Ham a few years back.
Moving on, yes, just seen us beat Chelmsford and they were strong (and literally very physical). I have seen a bit about Real Bedford. I must say I'm a bit of a traditionalist - hated the name change to Ebbsfleet, always was suspicious about the Kuwaiti owners although to be fair, they have funded the squad adequately and backed each manager with players.
I found that interesting what you said about the Woking owner. Club surfing so to speak before alighting on the one he found most suitable. You must have thought "Why them and not us?" though you answered that already.
Clubs like Bedford, Dorking and now Daggenham too, all looking to generate interest and something which separates them from other clubs. In the lower leagues, it's often a question of who's in it for the long haul. Like yourselves at Wealdstone. Bromley, fucking Maidstone and Sutton have all shown that you can make the step up to league level (your current ground has no chance I suspect). Maldon and Tiptree have been bought out by a couple of blokes who are promoting the club heavily through social media and have big plans for the club. Question is, will they still be there in ten years time?
It's funny really, what with all the turmoil around West Ham at the moment and all the quite justifiable screaming, shouting and gnashing of teeth, at grass roots level clubs and fans are facing similar crises every year, which could be solved by six months salary of an average premiership player. Having said that, I'm not sure I would chance my lottery winnings on owning a non-league club. Wonder if you could pitch it on Dragon's Den?I've been to Dartford and agree its a decent modern ground
although I seem to recall a tree sticking up through one of the stands
Welling I thought was decent also
Back in the old days and lately in the ryman we had quite a rivalry with Dover.
There was one particular incident with their cocksure drummer boy that didn't end particularly well for him.
Margate also holds fond memories as we won the ryman league there and also because of the infamous banshee
As for ground grading and tenure of lease for league football I believe the rules have changed somewhat this season and a rolling lease with grading assurances are acceptable
However it's an impossible dream and issues remain regarding the current lease situation.
I've always been a West ham fan first and foremost and still attend most home games but have always supported the local non league clubs and in many ways found it more enjoyable
I still pay one or two visits a season to Edgware and Kingsbury town a merger of the two local clubs where i grew up who are a bit of a phoenix set up.
.
Like most on here, I support West Ham first and foremost but things have changed. I have never lived local to West Ham. As a kid in North Kent you chose your London club from those available. In 1967 my brother told me to support West ham so I did. All these years later I still do. I saw my first game v Chelsea in 1969 and was lucky to see the likes of Moore, Hurst and for them Cooke and Osgood. Along the way particularly memorable were the games v Eintracht Frankfurt and Ararat Eravan, and also a league cup (?) duel with Derby County and the Ipswich home game in 86. In 2001 I moved to Essex and later got my first season ticket, for the Pardew years and beyond. Until Allardyce arrived and they announced to stadium move. I had seen us play his Bolton team away in the cup and swore I'd never pay to watch that style of football. So I didn't. After that I managed the odd game at UP but I've yet to get to the London stadium and away games without a season ticket are a non-starter. Non league has its drawbacks but seeing a game, having a few beers with family or mates and following what's going on is what it's all about for me. Finally, I don't have a broader interest in football, I couldn't give a monkeys about Liverpool v Newcastle for example, only matches involving West Ham or the Fleet wind me up.

I forgot to add Hoddesdon Town who were my local team at the time, went on to win the very first FA Vase at Wembley beating those Surrey cunts Epsom and Ewell 2-1. The same year West Ham beat Fulham in the FA cup final. 1975 was a good year football wise.

There is certainly a lot of money floating about in your league this season and players are signing for the likes of Chelmsford rather than coming to us as the wages are better and this has made the recruitment process harder for sure.
Another club that is attracting a lot of interest at the moment is Real Bedford with its bitcoin and you tube millionaire owners who are looking to buy their way up the pyramid.
.
Who are your main Kent / local rivals these days ?
Fucking Maidstone.
Wonder if you could pitch it on Dragon's Den?

If you think West Ham's ownership is a circus you should see what we have endured here in North Kent.
Chelmsford Chieftains Ice Hockey. Always a great way to spend a couple of hours.
Used to go to see London Broncos in the Summer at Fulham and later at Charlton.
Good post but Urchins are gonna muller you on 5th Sept
Good evening Mr XKHammer,
I have had the pleasure of visiting your atheletics stadium in the freezing cold a couple if years back just before Christmas.

Not sure why but when I was a real sports fanatic when younger I supported Widnes in Rugby, as I say no idea why, maybe they had exciting players to watch. Also never really been anywhere near it but in cricket I had a soft spot for Somerset during the years of Ian Botham, Viv Richards and Joel Garner.
Re: What other sports teams do you support
I forget the Dallas Cowboys. I spent a month working in Dallas. Unfortunately it was Baseball season so I didn't get a chance to see them. Dallas is a pretty boring city.

Having a permanent ground however is key and it's good to hear that may be resolved at some point in the future. You're still part-time? That's a special niche to be in in the National League, though I guess you'll pick up those who do want to commit but can perform at that level. We went down last year as you know. We've had five managers in the last three years - all playing different systems. None of the changes lead to an improvement and although the CEO does fan forums and sits with the away support on the road and exchanges opinions openly, and therefore is generally liked, you have to say that some of the blame has to lie with him. Fourty two players went through the squad last season. That clearly isn't a recipe for success.
The club is hamstrung bya lack of investment and lease situation.
The board is mostly made up of well meaning and hard working long term fans but they need a big hitter to come in and invest heavily.
Anyone doing this would want overall control which would initially be problematic due to the he number of shareholders (fans share schemes etc) and possible share dilution.
The American that now owns Woking was at Wealdstone for a while before moving on to his mates at Dagenham and then buying out and supposedly saving Woking..
The complex set up at the stones was probably one of the reason he chose to go elsewhere.
.
Hybrid is the current model with mixed training (mornings and evenings) but this also allows for players who have full time jobs.
