Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Well, overall, I’d say it was a poor transfer window for us when we needed a strong performance from the back office.

Far too much squad fodder to replace ageing squad fodder.

Fernandes and Diouf might be the only nailed-on Premier League starters we’ve signed. Hopefully Magassa, although - let’s be honest - nobody has seen enough of him to know yet.

Todibo has talent, and we were committed to spending big money on him after the loan. But he still has to prove himself, despite having joined a year ago.

I’m not going to criticise signing an 18-year-old from Celtic. Hope he rips it up.

The rest, I’m afraid feel like squad fodder at this stage. The keeper looks ropey and clearly has a problem with set pieces/crosses. Doesn’t really look like an upgrade on Areola, who has similar issues. Hopefully, like Fabianski, he will get better and better.

Some of them are decent squad fodder: KWP, ageing Wilson (while fit) etc. But they don’t feel like permanent starters (although, as Eerie said, KWP doesn’t need to be).

Signing Brighton’s 5th choice CB was just cheap filler. Like buying a Greggs sausage roll when you’re out and feeling hungry. Not signing Cresswell or another CB at that point spoke volumes.

It all feels a bit Glenn Roeder. 

Worse than underwhelming signings, though, we are still lumped with some overpaid rubbish like Rodriguez.

Sunday was great, and I hope it sparks something. Having Summerville back feels like the most exciting “signing” we’ve made (alongside Fernandes). But, realistically, I still think this season will be a long, hard struggle.

Because we have a cheap, poor performing board - and a below average manager.

I would think the most likely reason Igor Julio didn’t go to Palace is that Glasner would have walked if they’d sold Guehi and Eze in the same transfer window. 

That's how I read in to it, or that if he couldn't get in a replacement at all should Guehi go. Keeping Guehi (and by default Glasner) only makes them stronger.

Yup agree. Even then you have to feel we really didn’t maximise our return on him. We absolutely need to look at a sustainable way of managing the squad. Ie when you sell a Rice buy a Kudus, Fernandes or a Diouf. Not a fucking JWP or a Kilman. 

I think JWP has been one of our best players so far this season.

Well, to be honest, everyone would like a profitable sell but clubs have now realised that within the rules you can buy a load of decent players, loan them to champions league or European footy clubs and then sell a year or two later at a big profit. Clubs have become infinitely more knowledgeable and capable businesses than in the past and they are adapting to the rules. This process does suit clubs with access to lots of cash.

Definitely also true. We did get good value out of Coufal, Cresswell, Fab and Antonio in terms of tenure, contribution, and what they cost us. 

It’s the Andersons and the Scamaccas and the Fegoulis and the JWP and Vlasics and Cornets and Aguerds and Kilmans which are absolutely piss poor value and cost us a bundle.

Every club sells if it's the right deal. 

Out of all the players that we've sold this window, how many did we get value out of? Maybe Emerson, at a push.

Definitely agree. I think Coufals move is decent too. I really wish the best for him. Great pro. Same for Cresswell and Fab. I think Cress’s move is decent too but obviously couldn’t snag a move to anyone else in the prem after getting significant minutes for us last season. It does say something about us- just like JWP not getting a sniff for Forest then coming back because we were so poor he immediately started games for us.

But yes. Fucking two bob ownership letting the squad stagnate so badly in the last few seasons. Moyes with a hand in it as well. Clearly not looking past the end of his tenure at the future health of the squad.

Of our experienced players that left at the end of last season I only know of Cresswell getting a job ( Stoke ). Any news on what the likes of Fabianski, Coufal and Ings are up to?

Coufal went to Germany, Ings signed with Sheff Utd 

As I said the other day. Speaks volumes about how poor the quality in our squad was. Only Coufal has really gotten a decent move. The others are lower league or unemployed. That’s the reality of how badly we’ve been managed. A squad effectively littered with championship level players- who let’s not forget in cresswell’s case were the most competent looking of our defenders in some games last season. 

To be fair Cresswell Ings and Fab are all older experienced pros looking for one last gig. I wouldn't expect them to get a prem team to be honest. But yeah maybe some of them should of been moved on for a fee beforehand or in Ings case just not signed at all. It's all short-term planning both football wise and money wise which leads you into a bit of a mess eventually. 

What is shocking though is how we can't get a decent fee for any of the midfielders or Emerson (unless the sell on clause theory is true....which it may be)

Did Aguerd definitely go? I’ve not seen anything official.

 I have a little theory about the fee. Emerson apparently had a sell on clause so we deliberately kept his fee down and boosted Aguerd’s up so that the rent boys wouldn’t get as much money.

Any sell on percentage would surely only be anything we made in profit over his original fee, so I doubt that very much.
