May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

All I’d say is none of them have really gone on to do much elsewhere that has us kicking ourselves they left.

We've had 1 player from the Academy who was genuinely good enough to be a proper Premier League player over the last 15 years, Declan Rice. No one, not even Moyes, was worried about putting him in the team.

I like Potts, and would like to see him start ahead of Mouse & Soucek, and that is a massive mark against Potter, amongst everything else he's got wrong. But let's be brutally honest, he's older than Fernandes, and they are miles apart in terms of being ready to be a regular PL player. 

Yup it's a sad truth. If we were churning out players of PL quality from the academy, then they'd be playing PL football for us or someone else. Absolutely Potts not getting time isn't helping him- especially before the two new lads joined and he wasn't looking bad compared to the statues sharing the dressing room with him, but if he's good enough, he will make it either for us or someone else. Rather it be with us if possible but the sad thing to say is that as you've said, Rice is really the only player to come through the academy for a long time and be a PL success. 

It's a head scratcher how the youth team of a couple of seasons ago could be so good and then none of them really amount to anything YET while some of the Arsenal lads are, but that so often happens in football. If they were genuinely good enough, they'd be playing here or elsewhere.

I dont think weve gone too wild with the new signings, because this time last week the manager had two games to turn it around.

Payoff money and transfer budget for a new manager might still be needed in January.

That would be an appalling reason for the Board to hide behind for not coughing up more for a Summer window.

If that was true, it tells us they are backing a manager they don't really believe in any more, in which case why is he still here? Or it means we can't spend properly because of it.

Early days I know, but there is a small part of me that thinks this transfer window will go down as one of the best we’ve had for some time. 

KWP, Disouf and Fernandes all look quality.

Wilson looks like a player still.

If the keeper settles in and Massaga delivers we will have ourselves a proper team. 

Factor in Summervilles return and the fact that we have brought in some young players you can see the logic and the potential to what we did this window.

A new young, hungry center forward and a dominant center half and we’ll have ourselves a squad to build on.

This coupled with some consistency and pride in the badge could be the trigger we need to really kick on.

It's as relevant to bring up now as it always has been since they first proudly trumpeted it at the start. It's one of the big reasons for wanting them out because it is a bear faced lie that they can never shake off and in part central to all the BS Out protests currently going on. Yet another timely Summer transfer window reminder that perfectly illustrates their bullshit.

So I'd personally rate our window as a 6.5 out of 10.

On balance I'd say it was an ok window that takes us in the right direction but leaves some issues unresolved. 



 

That's pretty much how I view it. Not good enough and certainly nowhere near "Next Level" type signings we were always promised, that we couldn't have managed at the Boleyn had we stayed.

Agreed...i've pretty much moved beyond judging our exploits through that lens...it was clearly an undeliverable promise made by an incompetent (at best) and deliberately misleading (at worst) owner hell bent on a course of action.

Could another owner leverage our playing arena to drive next level signings? Personally I doubt it....team prestige and league standing, wages, manager and incumbent playing staff all seem things much more likely to draw a player to the Club.

We are where we are now...it won't change without new ownership.  I'm fully behind the Sullivan resign campaign as competent structural running of the Club is the only way we can hope to achive the potential the Club has given it's advantages (fan base, location, revenues, etc).

But so many of the things in their original 10 point pledge, or pledged when moving to the Olympic stadium frankly they were in no position to promise, given the stadium alone couldn't deliver any of them (and more so, they weren't within the Club's direct control).

So I'd personally rate our window as a 6.5 out of 10.

Pros:

• Signed a highly rated mid 20s keeper. All be it he's had an iffy start
• Addressed athletisicism in midfield with two very highly rated early 20s players
• Kept our primary match winners in Bowen, Paqueta and Soucek
• Reduced the average age of the Starting XI with 4 new first XI starters joining
• Reduced the wage bill by around 30% ahead of PSR considerations when the Rice money no longer 'counts'
• Introduced four youth players as first team squad members at the expense of 30+ veterans
• Signed an excellent sqad member in KWP that can cover both full back positions when AfCON interfers later in the season
• Brought in striker cover with a proven PL track record who is motivated to succeed (needs 11 more goals to join the PL hundred club)

Cons:

• There is still no long term strategic solution to the central striker position
• Options to affect the game positively from the bench will remain thin on the ground (assuming Summerville becomes first choice pick)
• Pathway for key young players from the academy has been somewhat blocked (Potts, Scarles in particular)
• A lot of money has now been spent across the centre back positions, but quality remains questionable
• Squad lacks depth from a proven player perspective
• Continued lack of leadership within the first XI

On balance I'd say it was an ok window that takes us in the right direction but leaves some issues unresolved. 

Probably does what we need it to do but no more. 

The elephant in the room remains a significant striker upgrade, although other areas were probably of greater importance, and squad renewal from an age perspective has clearly taken place, with the first team squad now having only 5 non-goalkeepers over the age of 30.

We've brought in 4 players 25 years old and under, 5 including todibo. What a fucking disaster it's been.

A 4.5 out if 10 window as things stand. Magassa if a success could transform it to a 6 / 10 but based on what was needed in light of other club’s spending / strengthening and the fact that we have struggled in the league for 3 seasons, Sullivan and the board have confirmed that its short term objective only to stay in the league and protect the value if their asset ir shareholdings.  No doubt they would like us to do better but measuring the financial commitment most seasons its never much more than retaining Prem Lge status.  When we had Euro revenues to be fair more was spent ( ir should I say borrowed to be spent ) but the other problem of course is even if investment was increased, I have no confidence it would be spent well on recruitmenr.  

The protests are needed. Probably wont get them out immediately but needs to be sustained.  Sullivam and Brady have no plan or strategy for yhe footballing side of West Ham end of. The only priority has always been to increase the asset value.

Only hope we have is Macaulay and Potter’s shift to buying younger

I was pretty scathing, granted. I sort of still am, as I think his reported wages are high for a guy who will probably play less often than AWB.

But he’s one of us now, so I want him to do well. It’s the nature of the beast!

Even if he does play less he's helped us to our first three points and if he does it will surely be because he's motivated AWB to up his game by being good competition... Good signing for free.

The 17 year old lad was that good he wasn't used in pre-season?  

unfortunately like Moyes, Potter doesn't seem to be the most attractive manager to get behind if you are a promising lad in the academy. 

All the way back to Allardyce, every manager we’ve had with the possible exception of Bilic (who also didn’t do it IIRC aside from Oxford) has been completely coated off for ignoring the youth players. Theres a pattern here. Of course being semi permanently on emergency ‘oh fuck we might get relegated’ mode hasn’t been overly conducive to blooding young players either. 

All I’d say is none of them have really gone on to do much elsewhere that has us kicking ourselves they left.
