Spursy West Ham vs Spurs | PL | 13.9.25 | Predictions and Match Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

With the 'interesting' football hiatus that International Football brings, figured I'd get this match thread up.  The result against Forest makes this game in some ways less significant (as the clock will have been reset on Potter's tenure) but also more interesting as there is a modicum of form to take into the game.

Fullkrug should obviously never be allowed on international duty again, what with it being an injury magnet for him, but that aside, as of now there are no new injuries.  Rumours of a Summerville injury also appear unfounded.

So from a lineup perspective, I'm expecting something like:
Hermansen

Walker-Peters  Mavropanos   Kilman   Diouf

Ward-Prowse Magassa

 Bowen     Soucek   Fernandes

Paqueta
Subs: Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Igor, Rodriguez, Irving, Guilherme, Summerville, Willson

Left out: Earthy, Marshall, Potts, Scarles.
Prediction: 1-2 Spurs (Muani, Kudus;  Bowen for us)

I said we would lose 0-3, yet another accurate prediction by Come On You Irons.

I also said we were largely rubbish against Forest and the three late goals massive flattered us. Of course, I was attacked for that statement but yet again I have been proven right.

We are getting relegated under this useless fraud of a manager and he needs to go ASAP.

What really fucks me off is most teams know a good cdm is one of thr most important positions on the pitch.  We had rice and that carried us for a long time.  Alvarez did OK in his first season then fell off a cliff (mainly due to attitude)

Who was our cdm yesterday?  Neither jwp or soucek fit that role

Agree with what most have said on here.  Poor team selection of a bunch of poor, slow, poor technical midfielders and no striker is suicide.  Potter once again tying to be clever when simplicity earns us a result against forest.  He does this time and time again.
add to that the lack of any fight, guts, leadership etc, even in a derby against our rivals, equals this horrible state of affairs.   Watching Kilman looking like he’s going got cry every game, JWP passing backwards every time because he’s scared, then the keeper looking like he’s just turned up from the under 18s is all on the board and Potter.  0 to look forwards to

Potter picked the wrong team and as said took too long to change
We were in the game early but as the first half progressed our turgid midfield of Soucek & JWP were being pushed back & Tottenham had endless corners
We are fragile and it was inevitable that they would eventually score from one or more
Once Souceks touch of a rapist led him to lunge at the ball the game was over
Studs up lunge into someone’s shin is a red all day long
Once they scored the second they cruised home without breaking sweat. Could have been 5 or 6 if they didn’t ease off with this weeks Champions league game in mind
Another embarrassing humiliating surrender

Sir Alf" wrote: 13 Sep 2025, 19:23 Agree to a point 360 but the GK is weak on crosses to the point where he only came and got a fist to one cross. He just showed what hes good at which is shot stopping.

Magassa aint that quick but looks strong and should improve but as you say we can never start games with JWP and Soucek ever again. But Potter will Im sure.

Relegation looks a strong possibility at this point

They did to us what we used to do to teams at corners when JWP came under Moyes. We used to put Antonio in front of the keeper and aim for dead center of the goal inswinging. Very difficult to defend against if the keeper isn’t a “catcher” and is not that tall/strong. It’s almost as if you have no keeper because they can’t get out and can’t really out jump anyone. I think Fab is good at defending those but areola and our new guy will always get done.

but it’s more that mentally you have to do that multiple times in a row that’s hard. If the keeper was a tall catcher type, he gets the ball. Waits for everyone to get back in formation and kicks it long. Then you don’t get repeated corners. Our keeper just too short and slight to do anything to solve this.

also, no real no.9 who spends their time looking to pin back the defender is a problem. Although fullkrug isn’t as creative as Paq or Wilson he still did that job of occupying their CB. I think defence starts at the front not at the back. Liverpool look good because they don’t actually need to call on their defence as much as lower teams because their attack has so much threat it keeps the ball in the other teams half.

I didn’t see the “Viera like” presence of the new midfielder we got in. It’s unfair to judge him on his 1st game under these circumstances. But he looked like he was chasing shadows a bit to me. (Understandable with 10 men).  I’d like to see him start with Fernandez and Paq as a proper creative midfield and see how it goes.

if anything I feel that making JWP vice captain will end Potters stay here. Mainly because it’s an inflexible approach. He thinks it’s character and togetherness that wins football games. Maybe, but a lot of the time it’s just sheer talent put in the right places that does it. Especially at this level. He needs to think about who are the best actual players  to do the job he needs doing.

Finally, Potter knew we were just holding on by the end of the 1st half instead of taking the game to them. Why didn’t he make the strategic subs for the last second half? This is something that pisses me off. Subs allow you to dictate the game or react to problems that you see happening. Yet you just wait for them to score before you sub. I don’t get it? What was so great about the end of the 1st half that meant you should just stay doing what you were doing? You didn’t change formation or ask anyone to do something different. It’s a waste.

We were OK for abut 20 minutes then the noteh london scum gradually become the dominant team.  Their first one should have stood.  And that wasn't a penalty when someone touched paquetas back.  He always falls over fat too easily and refs dont give him much.

the sending off for me was a booking at most.  But i still think im watching 80s /90s football.  You go in studs up and catch the player, refs these days will send you off for that.

We were fucking shit, and I sadly cant see much changing any time soon.  Especially with midfield with 2 out of  jwp / soucek/rodriguez every fucking week.

As others have said Potter should have made changes at half time.  We were under the cosh and were lucky to get to half time still goalless.  As usual it seems everyone else can see what Potter can't, his persistence with playing JWP is baffling.   Magassa at least looks to have presence and can get about the pitch.

Going to blunt: I genuinely don’t think this squad, in any selection of players or any formation, is strong enough to stay in the Premier League under Graham Potter.

It’s not a good squad. In fact, it’s poor in too many areas. They might just be good enough to stay up under a much better manager, though.

If we want to stay up, the bare minimum here is to sack Potter. But that would require this incompetent board to headhunt and fund a significantly better manager capable of getting a tune out of some bang average (by Prem standards) players.

We are in serious trouble. Apart from 15 minutes against Forest, we’ve been very poor this season, as we were under Potter last season.

Poor owners choose poor managers who buy poor players - and they get poor results. We’re in a football death loop. And it comes from the top down.

Huge changes are necessary at West Ham.

It can’t JUST be Hermansen that’s rendered us completely unable to defend crosses and corners. It’s insane how poor we are at it all of a sudden. He’s dreadful at commanding the area but we’re just leaving people unmarked all over the place. It’s appalling. We need ag least two new defenders in January. Kilman and Mav are fucking shit just as is Todibo. We might end up starting that Brighton reserve at this rate.

LOTS of work needs doing on set piece defending and defending the six yard box. It’s like as soon as one hole is halfway plugged another leak springs somewhere.

Also yes it was poor not starting a striker. Wilson vs van der ven would be pitiful though. No marshall on the bench- disappointing. He got to stop being ‘clever’ and just play people in their best positions.
Until the sending off, I thought we were the better team.

things are not that bad, sometimes a sending off can be the turning point and was a soft sending ff.

Also West Ham should have had a penalty.

Quite enjoyed the first half, seeing us move the ball much more quickly and getting forward. If we'd had a centre forward perhaps we would have had an end product to some decent approach play.
Right from the start of the second half, Tottenham are much better, we are much worse. So the two different half-time team talks would have been interesting to hear.
I stayed to the bitter end simply to see if anything interesting happened and was rewarded by seeing Irving come on in the 91st minute.

As threesixty said earlier, if you give any team 10 corners to defend eventually opposition will score.  We had defended ok for most of them but switched off for their first goal.

Why can’t our managers pick a side with legs and strikers at home. I would sack Potter for that starting line up and not having a striker that can stretch teams if needed like Marshall,  Away teams must love our ground.

Utterly pitiful & humiliating
JWP, Soucek & no centre forward
Anything learned against Forest completely ignored

Sullivan & Brady going is the priority. Forced out by any means necessary
Carry on like this with CockPissPotter then relegation is a probability rather than a possibility
Cant defend a ball into the box to save our lives and once we concede we fall apart & concede again. No guts, no fight

Positives
Kudus didn’t score
Soucek can’t play next week
Sullivan is another day closer to death

Wilson literary is our number 9 and has looked good this season, ok he is old, but he is a proper number 9. Fullkrug and Marshall were also on the bench.
Have to ask Potter why we play with no forward.
Wilson hasn't looked good, he's looked marginally better than the absolute shitshow that is Fullkrug. However, to have Diouf pinging in lovely crosses to no fucking striker at all is beyond incompetent from Potter. He's a cսnt and should be sacked tonight.

Magassa looked a good addition, lots of fight and energy.
Please lets start Areola or probably Fabianski is the best option.
Why is JWP starting and playing most of the game? Does not do enough and too much side / back passing.
Why no forward.
Not defending corners is criminal, how do we get that bread and butter stuff all wrong.

No serious attempt to win that game at all. The arrogance to line up with a false nine like you're prime Man City was staggering. Inexplicable substitutions and no tactical changes at half-time when it was obvious we were going to concede from a set piece. Those beautiful shiny empty white seats with a quarter of the game to go broadcast around the world. Thanks for giving me another special day West Ham!
