Re: Welcome Mads Hermansen!
People cite Shay Given as an example of a really good "smaller" keeper - and he was. But he was also strong for his size. He could fight his way through crowds at set pieces, and those who got in his way generally got a glove in the mush or a stud in the leg. He had a physicality and presence that Mads is miles away from, and the confidence to attack the ball in the air (usually with a punch).

Pathetic Potter insisting we spunk out £20 million for this fella is a stackable offence much like Loser Lop insisting we spunk out £40 million on the useless Kilman in summer 2024.
6 foot 1. Which is on the small side but plenty of goalies are only 6 1 and have been fine. Shay Given, Ederson, David Raya, Casillas. His height at 6 1 isn’t a barrier. Or it shouldn’t be. It’s just he seems to have a glaring flaw in his game which somehow lay undiscovered until the moment he got to us. Of course I doubt he’s ever had such a pair of fucking shit defenders in front of him or such poor set piece organisation seemingly as here this season.
He’s tall enough.

Max Kilman, anyone?
Hermansen was available all summer. And we signed him at the last minute in our usual panic and for too much money.
Yup that’s classic Sullivan. A player in demand is one we’d have to pay more money for so that’s a no no. That Parma (was he Parma?) goalie was a little more, so NO. Loads of midfielders in the summer were a little more, so NO. It’s not like shopping around all the shops in town all afternoon refusing to open your wallet and waiting until closing time to see where you can buy your Optimus Prime toy ( blast from that past haha) a quid cheaper than anywhere else (now there’s an analogy for our transfer windows) which some might call ‘smart shopping and due diligence’ because players aren’t all the same like fucking toys. You don’t just go ‘what’s the best price on a defender?’ And get that one just because.
His obsessiveness with a ‘bargain’ or winning a transfer deal is just fucking the club so badly. He can’t see that. I feel like he just thinks one component should work just the same as another rather than understanding all the players are different which is why the cost varies so much, so he just goes for any old one which has the label ‘central defender’ and thinks it’ll do and feels smug because he’s saved himself 5 million quid then can’t understand why we are getting battered week in week out. Same with his philosophy on managers and only hiring out of work ones. Well one is just as good as another, right?
Clueless old cսnt. Only Man U have got it as consistently wrong as he has. Which he’d twist into a positive. ‘Well even man united are struggling so what chance do we have at little old West Ham?’
Anyway. This is wildly off topic and probably not even making sense. But yeah. Sullivan is fucking woeful at transfers.

Re: Welcome Mads Hermansen!
It won’t happen, because Sullivan doesn’t have the the cajones for it, but I would love for us to appoint Mourinho even on a short-term contract.
Live him or loathe him, Mourinho knows what football excellence looks like inside a club. I’d love to just let him wander the corridors at West Ham and Rush Green, and point out to a deluded board the utter shit we offer in terms of every aspect of this club.
“What is this? You think this is a training ground? You think this is a video analysis facility? You think that’s a centre half?!”

Re: Welcome Mads Hermansen!
Not getting any help from central defenders who can’t win a header but looks vulnerable at any ball into the box
Areola (who I don’t particularly rate) & even post 40 Fabianski look better options at the moment
Have said before I would have given Fab another year as no2 in May and concentrated on another midfielder or striker before a new keeper.

Can’t get near it and gets bullied. It looks embarrassing to see him get nowhere near the ball time and again. Granted he’s not being helped by atrocious defending of set pieces and crosses from the outfield players. All the central defenders useless in the air and at marking.
It’s like a cheat code has been discovered and everyone is starting to use it. Because it’s only going to get exploited more and more by everyone we play.
However, I get the dodgy keeper bit but how did we get to being such a shambles overall at set pieces? We weren’t like that last season. What’s changed? It can’t be JUST the goalkeeper. We’re not going to stop allowing free headers just from switching to Areola or Fabianski.
Agree with that, Scorch. The only thing I’ll add is that some very good football sector folk, and even some Leicester fans, did point out that he is poor on crosses.
Yet another player that few other major sides were in for. We keep signing players nobody else wants - especially at the stupid prices we pay for such a lack of talent. This guy is not worth £18m. It’s that simple.
Somebody like Darren Randolph was a better keeper. And he was a permanent back up at West Ham. That’s the level we’re talking here. So, genuine question, who thought this guy would be a #1?
Our scouting and buying teams are easily the worst in the Premier League. Especially when led by the deluded cսnt in charge.

Re: Welcome Mads Hermansen!
We're gonna be stuck with him for a while longer, aren't we? I mean we've got something like his long lost uncle as a goalkeeping coach, so he's hardly going to drop him.
We've got a goalkeeper and centre back that we've invested heavily in and are likely to be here for a long time, and they're both fucking useless.

Re: Welcome Mads Hermansen!
Didn’t any of the scouts etc actually notice how shit he is at corners, afraid whipping corners into the six yard box is the new tactic, and now everyone in the premiership knows how crap we are at defending them.

Doesn't command his area, doesn't come for the ball, his distribution is worse than Ray Charles.
The bloke's a dud can we get our money back?
