Apathy at the London Stadium
Apathy at the London Stadium
Hangover thoughts after yesterday’s embarrassment. The heart and soul of West Ham is gone. The atmosphere at the ground was tepid; even when Judas had the ball, the booing felt panto-like—nothing like the hostile reception he’d have got at Upton Park. After Souček’s sending off, we were down to ten; the first goal goes in, there’s resignation in the stands, the Spurs muppets are having a party, and I’m thinking, now it’ll boil over. If ever there were a time for the supporters to let the board know how they feel, it was watching Spurs stroll around as if it were a training match in the second half while their fans took the piss in the stands—but nothing. A mass walkout—no doubt to avoid the stop/go signs at Stratford—and at the final whistle: no booing, just silence.I hope Hammers United can drum up some passion and fight, because it felt dead out there in an important London derby.
David Sullivan and Karren Brady are worse than cunts. Resign you pair of parasite cunts.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
I stayed till the end and found myself standing a few feet away from Bill Gardner. It was surreal and bloody sad to see him standing in a stadium of empty seats watching a team and support put up so little fight. Sullivan and Brady have killed our club.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
Saw that from 2000-2016 we conceded 5 goals just once. That included some poor seasons.
since the LS move we have conceded 5+ 8 times.
sums the stadium up. Players can hide and opposition feels no pressure.
biggest mistake we ever made as a club.

This doesn't get recognised enough.
As said elsewhere I don 't go any more but surely nobody gets nicked or banged up simply for doing a bit of singing or standing up in seated areas. And has it got noticeably worse since Starmer moved in to Num ber 10 ? Or was the malaise alreadt set in well before then ?
Or putting it another way it's possible to have atmosphere at a football match without direct confrontation between fans. Anyone who can't enjoy themselves without havinbg a pop at others and a bit of confrontation needs to have a serious talk with themselves.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
I stay to the end as I want to see which players fight on & which give up
Game was like a testimonial for the last bit after Tottenham put the cue in the rack & just walked around us
Biggest reaction was when JWP was taken off
About 90mins too late
Selecting JWP & Soucek after the spark of something at Forest was crazy
Would have let Soucek go to Everton & got JWP out even if it meant a free transfer & a payoff

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
While the visual of the near empty bowl appeared stark on the TV coverage, I Couldn’t believe there were still gormless people in the stands after the final whistle watching the spurs players clapped off the pitch (and I’m not talking about the spurs fans). I’d have been off after the third goal. Who wants to pay to stand there and be humiliated?
IF enough people could stay away from the (Brentford) game in protest and we could achieve the same as at the final whistle yesterday it couldn’t fail to get the point across. Unfortunately I just don’t think enough will get on board, plus they are back with things like kids for a quid so people will be jumping all over that.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
I was hoping that ‘Apathy’ was a new 35-goal a season centre forward we’re signing.
Nah, agree with what’s already been said.
The pressure needs to be ramped up on the leeches, starting again with the march/walk next week.
One way or another, we need to force them fuckin parasites out of our great club. Greedy bastards.
Our bit yesterday (near the away lot), was lively at first, then everyone gradually lost interest. Even on the concourse at HT, we agreed we were playing some decent football (but get a couple of subs on to go at em!) Cue the same team out 2nd half. Still, that’s for the Potter out thread.
Oh and Sven, i’m always resigned/devastated when I see the giraffe’s name on the teamsheet. Fuckin useless, slow, ball watching, pointer.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
Said the same thing yesterday
The booing of Kudus was all a bit half hearted & pantomime
Nothing like the utter hatred for the likes of Ince & Lampard in years gone by
Once Soucek went off & the second goal went the crowd was just subdued and resigned
Mass leaving once the 3rd goal went in & the ground was a waste land at full time
Only stopped once by stop & go on the way out & easily got a seat on the Elizabeth Line
Small victories eh?
Had to laugh when they announced the fire in Westfield car park C and that people couldn’t get their cars
What a day

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
I am stating the bleedin obvious here I know but.......nothing will change at OUR club whilst the parasites are still at the helm.
I go past the souless bowl twice a day on the train and it breaks my heart to see what they have done to line their own pockets.
Upton Park may have been a shit hole but it was OUR SHIT HOLE!
As for the players.......l am lost for words!

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
I was there. Don’t agree it was dead. At least not in the first half. But do agree that it has lost its edge. I was near the away fans and the kids on our side trying to give it large across the gap are an embarrassment to us.
But it's not just West Ham. This is modern football. Every club is like this nowadays. It’s role playing. Muscle memory. Whatever you want to call it, it’s not alive. The chants are not original or funny. Tottenham have problems too. They have more tourists than fans and the atmosphere is sterile as ours.
I would go even further and say it’s not just football. Working class life in England has died too. This is the underlying cause of all this. The working class has no culture anymore, it just shops and books holidays and washes anti-depressants down with novelty alcohol brands. But that’s one for the “off topic” thread.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
It’s depressing. If we can’t get riled by hidings from Spurs and Chelsea, there’s little hope. I know somebody who’s on a ban for a few games for giving it to Sullivan at the end of last season from his seat. They don’t want any dissenting voices over there.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
I’m at the stage now where I can’t even be bothered to check the results, 50 years of support and this is the first time that I have thought why bother
I wouldn’t mind us getting relegated, might win a few games and visit some proper stadiums plus see a few youngsters play.
It’s all very depressing.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
Is a soulless arena full of tourists and newbie fans who haven't got a clue about passion or history.
What is the hardcore support now?
15-20k ?
Half of those present haven't even been to Upton park and as we all get older and more pissed off and eventually snuff it that figure will get less and less and so the whole culture of being a West ham fan will be lost.
We are referred to by the club as consumers or customers rather than fans and everything seems sterile and americanised (we might as well be at the baseball)
.
I decided not to go yesterday as knew we would get beat and didn't want to shell out good money for the privilege.
A depressing state of affairs all-round both on and off the pitch.
I've never been a fan of Mourinho but would welcome him now just to stoke things up a bit as I sometimes wonder if Potters even got a pulse

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
There's reasons it won't get better mate and we've been nhere a few times before. A poor team with no leaders, mismanagement in the boardroom, a coach in who the players seem to have little belief, and, on top of all that, fan protests planned for future games which will inevitably have an effect on a shambles of a team that already looks resigned to accepting relegation as an inevitable fate.
It's got to the stage with me , and I suspect a lot of otherb people as well. that I just can't be bothered with all the drama that following this bloody club involves. I can't remember any sustained period in all the years I've been a supporter where there hasn't been some sort of crisis, protest or generak shit show waiting around the corner to kill any optiomism for the future.
Even before my supporting years we had 3 bloody World cup winners at the club and we had a couple of cup wins but never made any sort of impact in the league. The team that , imo, was the best the club has ever had, the 1985/86 season won, was allowed to disintegrate after narrowly failing to win the title. A few short years afterwards and I was genuinely ashamed to be a West Ham supporter at Anfield thge night we were beaten 5-0, and relegated, and our most succesful manager, John Lyall, was subjected to the most vile abuse from a large section of the away support .
Then, as now, the underlying problem was in the boardrrom. It has always been that way at West Ham and in all likelihood always will. It's not so much that the club is run like a circus, more that it's run like one of those trailers parked up in lay bys selling burgers and hot dogs to passing motorists.
I'm just glad I decided to stop going and parting with my hard earned the day Sullivan and Gold bought the gaff.

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
the players don't care, so why should the fans
The options are let it go, the club's dead. Find ways to make life uncomfortable for the board and force them to take action. Form our own breakaway club like FC United and AFC Liverpool.
Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
Loads of the old school have given up
the football has been dire for years
its a chore going over there and has been for a long time
the players don't care, so why should the fans
I'll admit I couldn't be arsed to go yesterday. Let the wife take the boy to the game as I knew exactly how bad it would be and frankly disnt want to put myself through it

Re: Apathy at the London Stadium
It’s the same every game there. The is no atmosphere before, during or after games, which considering out form there is inevitable. We are the easiest away game in the prem. current and ex players have said as much in recent weeks. It ain’t getting any better any time soon.
