And I accept that Nuno is an upgrade on Potter.

Although that really isn’t saying much.

Nothing against him personally, but if Nuno is our “only hope” now that Mourinho is going to Benfica (and he might be in the eyes of Sullivan), then it goes to show how fucked we are.

He’s a bang average manager. But that seems to be our absolute ceiling as a club under this board.

Make no mistake about it, Nuno (and others on the market: it’s not just him) is just another short-term manager who’d be coming through the revolving door.

How ridiculous is it that our fans dream of the day that the club goes out and actively headhunts a manager who is under contract and doing well elsewhere?!

Sullivan has conditioned everybody into thinking that the pool of management “talent” is whoever is on the sausage at any given time.

The Analytics United data-nerds did a Podcast yesterday that looks at all the team level performance data across the Moyes era, through until now and also looked at the data for the Brighton Potter era (grouping the data by quarters for each season)

Needless to say the "eye test" isn't wrong...Potter is trending down, and this season is worse than the last.

If you want to watch it can get to it here:

The 'stat attack' starts 25 mins through.

More of just a HUNCH

We're not in a situation for gambling on someone who has had 1 job, and failed enough to be replaced by the brace of relegations sacked by Luton bloke.

Every appointment is a gamble.  No-one has suggested we just appoint any ex player. Carrick has a decent record, and much like people thought about Brooking I think Carrick would be worth a go. I don't care whether you disagree. That's fine. I hope we end up with a  higher qualified manager that I think suits us over him.

However, you're arguing for the very recruitment policy that Sullivan has used his entire reign as Chairman. If potter wasn't the best PL experienced and risk adversed appointment he saw at the time, who exactly were all these better less risk adverse managers we turned away?
I'm not arguing for Sullivan's recruitment policy, I would love us to get some unknown bloke who they'd done their research on, who aligned with a fantastic recruitment policy, and played magnificent adaptable football and all that fancy stuff.

I'm being more realistic about our current position, firstly. But most of all, regardless of anything, Carrick has failed in his one job, apparently his football is a bit sideways like Greyham, he strictly only has 1 way of playing, he's not that strong a character (something I think we need badly) and ultimately he got sacked by what was last season a mid table Championship team, who funny enough now are top of the league without him.

You can at least admit you're mentioning him because he once played for us. I see him as ex Spurs, which is another mark against him for me. If you said someone like Liam Rosenior, who's teams play really good football, done wonders at shitty Hull, and now is doing the same in France, I could get my head round that. Carrick makes no sense whatsoever.

Lampard is one nobody 'wants' but he perversely might do ok here.

My only hope is Nuno now, who is hopefully looking to jump straight back into management, the owners will think he's a good appointment solely because Forest were decent last season, he's out of work and has Prem experience and a point to prove. He doesn't hang around too long so his rather dull football will only need be tolerated for two seasons before his business plan kicks in and he gets himself elbowed. Other than that it's good looking Gary O'Wall or a host of other awful bellends and no marks like Carrick or fucking Dyche. We are not an attractive prospect. Nuno keeps us up I think.

Saying that, the clubs statement tonight smells a bit like they're going to persevere with this fucking moron Potter. Suicidal stuff.

The fact that we’re even talking about these names shows how far we’ve fallen and how little faith anyone has in Sullivans ability to pick the right manager.

Any idea why he didn't get the Tottenham job?
Because they appointed Thomas Frank. It's a pointless question that doesn't detract from me being willing to see Carrick appointed here, no matter how much a risk you wish to portray it as.

If you're arguing that we should only appoint high profile PL experienced managers, fair enough but don't moan when it's no different to Allardyce, Pellegrini, Moyes and Potter.

How about Rob Edwards?

I think Tottenham would have been perfect for him.

I don't get the impression that Lampard has enough assertiveness in him and is more likely to switch between passive & aggressive at the drop of a hat, depending upon what is asked of him, and by whom.
