The Ersatz Coffee Weekend Football Thread - One Week Only

Post John Drake »

Saturday 20 September

Liverpool vs Everton
David Moyes makes a 23[sup]rd[/sup] attempt to win a game at Anfield and upset the Premier League’s only 100% record in the process. Liverpool’s flawless start to the campaign has not been totally convincing with a reliance on added time winners. Dey do do dat dough, don't dey dough?
Home win.

Burnley vs Nottingham Forest
Big Ange looking to kick start his Forest career following a heavy defeat to Arsenal and an embarrassing EFL cup exit at Swansea. Burnley huffed and puffed to defeat last week against Liverpool without a single shot on target.
Draw.

Brighton vs Tottenham
Tottenham will find greater resistance to their set piece bullying from Brighton than offered by West Ham last Saturday. The Seagulls for all their scouting prowess are still constrained by having no better option than Stan Welbeck (and mind the closing doors).
Away win.

West Ham vs Crystal Palace
All eyes will be on Potters team selection as he chases a rare win at the London Stadium. Who will play in goal, will he bother with a striker and have we seen the last of JWP. Palace are unbeaten but haven’t found goals easy to come by. A perfect opportunity for them to find their shooting boots.
Away win.

Wolves vs Leeds
A relegation six pointer as pointless Wolves host the powder puff attacking threat of Leeds United. Norman Hunter and Billy Bremner will be turning in their graves.
Home win.

Manchester United vs Chelsea
Ruben Amorin joins a long list of under fire managers at Old Trafford. His stubbornness could easily be mistaken for the hope of getting the sack. Chelsea are unbeaten but it is clear they are nowhere near as good as their 5-1 win at West Ham might have led them to believe.
Draw

Sunday 21 September

Fulham vs Brentford
This match will be played in west London. Marco Silva will be unhappy with some of the referee’s decisions.
Home win

Sunderland vs Aston Villa
Sunderland have made a better-than-expected start to life back in the top flight but are likely to sink back down to the danger zone as the season progresses. Aston Villa are still without a Premier League goal but will hope to kick start their season this weekend.
Away win

Bournemouth vs Newcastle
Bournemouth have enjoyed a tremendous start despite losing half a team thanks to the inspired coaching of Andoni Iraola. What chance him replacing Eddie Howe at Newcastle sometime in the future. Newcastle’s form has been so-so although team spirit appears sound.
Draw

Arsenal vs Manchester CityMost of the media attention will focus on this one once the Merseyside derby is out the way. It will be as dull as ditchwater to watch although we will be told what a great advert for the Premier League it was.

Yeh I feel terrible for not getting a prediction right.

Could be worse though, I could have made an absolute cսnt of myself inventing some imaginary mates and telling everyone that kappa would make the West Ham kit next season.

nobody wants to make themselves look that kind of cսnt do they?

Classic Moyes at Anfield. Concede possession and an early goal

Probably Everton & Moyes best chance of getting something at Anfield as Liverpool have relied on late goals in every game
Expect Liverpool might be a bit more comfortable this time

Garnacho to score Chelsea winner at Old Trafford

Palace comfortably won 2-0 at ours last season
No Eze now but hopefully we play a centre forward & not JWP
If it’s the same old same old we will struggle

Dont think City have the control of old & think Arsenal will grind out a couple of set piece goals to win 2-1

Wolves have been better than nil points. Think they may get up

Rome derby this weekend as well.

i fancy Everton to get something and arsenal to beat Man City.

Ange to get beat again and be under pressure after only 1 week in charge.

Saturday 20 September

Liverpool vs Everton
Home win.
Agreed. Liverpool are the first in my 4-team acca this week

Burnley vs Nottingham Forest
Draw.
Agree but only because both teams would lose 2 potential points which could make all the difference to us at the end of the season.

Brighton vs Tottenham
Away win.
Not sure on this one. Are Spurs due another "spursy" moment? I hope so.
Again, a draw preferred for the same reasons as above.

West Ham vs Crystal Palace
Away win.
Sadly agree, but my heart says a draw is eminently possible. However, my wallet doesn't and has Palace as the second winner in my acca (which probably proves (PROVES) to a grudge-holding lost puppy) that I want West Ham to lose.

Wolves vs Leeds
Home win.
Again, difficult call, but yeah, Home advantage should be enough,

Manchester United vs Chelsea
Draw
Got Chelsea (spit!) as the 3rd winner in my acca. Nothing I've read in the MSM about Man U (And there is shit-loads more than about any other team) suggests Amorin the Grape has worked out a solution.

Sunday 21 September

Fulham vs Brentford
Home win
Definite "Meh!" on this one. I suspect more draw than home win, like I give a flying one.

Sunderland vs Aston Villa
Away win
I think maybe you could be right on this one - Villa have got to spark the fire soon and Sunderland's honeymoon period has equally got to come to a close.
Also Villa make up the 4 winning choices in my acca. (Potential £119.56 for an £11.00 Stake, if anybody of significance is remotely interested)

Bournemouth vs Newcastle
Draw.
I'd go for an away win here - albeit a close one - as Newcastle look to bounce straight back from their mid-week defeat.

Arsenal vs Manchester City
Home win
Another too close to call for me; Arsenal could go 2 up in a dominant first half display and City could still claw something out of the game.

Draw, if anything,  for me.
