Potter Sacked!
Had enough of this arogrant no mark now.
11 games, 27% win ratio and 0.66 goals per game.
Either the break clause is true or this flake quits otherwise were proper fucked.

Re: Potter Out
I've wanted Silva for years. I feel like he knows he's probably taken Fulham as far as he can. We're a shambles atm but there's a higher ceiling here if (big if I know) we can get our crap in order. Just pay the 8 million if there's a chance of getting him in now. If we're prepared to pay 20 million for Magassa, go and get him in now

Re: Potter Out
Fuck that xG shit. Potter's teams always have much higher xG than they actually score, so it's no cause to think that we'll score enough to see us all right. The longer he stays in charge the more likely it is we'll get relegated. It really is as simple as that.

Re: Potter Out
It's also worth noting we're mid table in the xG stats. So in theory our chance creation and goals output, whilst not likely to win us any silverware, would keep us comfortably in the division....so the real issue is at the other end....which seem obvious to say, but until I checked the STATS, I'd assumed we were equally shit at both ends.
Also....we've not just conceding more goals from corners than anyone else, but we're notably conceding more corners themselves. Team are averaging ~25 corners across the 5 games so far. We've conceded 40!
So it's not just defending corners, but putting ourselves in defensive positions where we don't give away corners too, whether that's channelling teams more centrally, or defending higher up the pitch.

Re: Potter Out
if (IF) Bilic to the end of the season means getting Silva next season then i'd be happy with that.
big risk though - what if Bilic cannot keep us up?
surely the more prudent thing is to pay the release clause for Silva now??

Re: Potter Out
Interesting the narrative around this changing last few days...
We've gone from, "It will be Nuno, or Bilic, or maybe O'Neill/Dyche" to suggestions that we're interested also in Parker and maybe even Marco Silva who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Also suggestion that Kretinsky is more involved in the process, and maybe exerting more influence.
Could it be we'll 'pay' for a manager that's in a job? Feels unlikely as it's always been a red-line for Sullivan, but maybe Kretinsky's involvement could see it be revisited?
FWIW I think if the process takes until the next International Break, but we get a better calibre of manager, that's no bad thing.
In conjunction with that, I'd prefer we didn't have this dead man walking situation, but equally do we truly have 'good' candidates within the club to play role of Caretaker? I think it's questionable....often when Club's do that it's one of the manager's coaching staff...but not sure I'm keen on Billy or the other incumbent's taking over. Lastly, if Potter was somehow able to turn it around in the next two game....say picked up 4 points and also the team performances started to show some kind of consistency/positive patter, I'd not be against giving him until Xmas and beyond.
Further mid-season turmoil is not ideal in a season in which we're seemingly gonna burn the time and last year of Paqueta (and probably the last year of Bowen's prime too, given his game does rely on athletiscism and short distance speed).
If Potter looked like he might get to the place that keeps us up, and Silva could be lined up for next season...that would be an ok trade off for me. And maybe if the board need until the International Break to finalise all those things, that's ok.

Re: Potter Out
One positive thing regarding Potter is that he doesn't seem too stubborn.
He's already ditched the 3 at the back, and also his expensive useless goalkeeper.
Both are pretty catastrophic mistakes, but at least he's quickly realised that. Shame we wasted the summer and a load of money on each of them though.

Thing is, in the last year or so he's spent about £130m on our back 4 and Goalkeeper, and our defence is worse than ever. Our net spend is generally higher than nearly all the teams outside the top 6. The amount spent is not the issue, it's how it's been spent.
A more accurate analogy is that Sullivan treats the club like a shit car that he spends lots of money on patching up but he just doesn't know how to do it so that it actually runs. He'll add some expensive shiny accessories to it while neglecting to spend anything on the engine (ie the manager) or even understand what kind of engine fits the car he's got.

Re: Potter Out
It could simply be that his contract has a performance-related break clause : e.g. if the team is in the relegation zone after a certain number of games, the club can dismiss him with reduced or no compensation.

Re: Potter Out
I won't be expecting Potter to go any time soon. Sulli is handcuffed. Money need to sack Potter and get Nuno isn't there. That's why there's been no action. Sulli is hoping that Potter picks up two wins next two games and it will all settle down. If he doesn't, which is likely, then we are truly fucked.
Sullivan has gambled for too long and got away with it. Treated the club like a shit car that you patch up and spend as little on as possible. Sadly, I think his mis-management has now cost us. Time is up. Too many bad decisions and too much incompetency has dug us in too deep. Potter will stay and we will go down.

Re: Potter Out
Bilic has to be better at getting this squad to perform effectively. Just getting in a decent set piece coach alone would make a massive difference. But bless him, Bilic is not a successful manager. His record is average to poor aside from a season or two ( incl one with us). Hiring managers, securing players based on relatioships or history with the club or sentiment is a recipe for disaster as we have shown over the last 15 years. Sullivan does some kind of virtue signalling to say he doesnt pay for managers or coaches but we know its short term cost avoidance. Its an act if self harm to the club and himself in reality. His megalomania, ignorance, arrogance and monumental lack of self awareness are something to behold

Re: Potter Out
Thought if he went it would be Monday, still keep reading the board are undecided
and he still may go this week, Bilic wanted by Sullivan, others prefer Nuno.
For fuck sake, just get it done it’s obvious to just about everyone in the game his time is well and truly UP, stop dithering and do it.

Re: Potter Out
I don't want to pile on with the hopelessness of it all, but the season has just started in most countries, so there can't be many managers looking for a new job after a handful of games. Anyone normal would have jumped ship during the break. They have to get cock piss out this week. We can't be seen to be throwing Everton and Arsenal or that will bring another load of trouble down the road.

Re: Potter Out
I actually don't think Sullivan can raise the readies to get rid of Potter.
He seems to have maxed out on all the available financial sources, including pay-day loans, in parallel with them looking at our form and saying "Fuck that for a barrel of monkeys, we may now not even get back what we've already lent him, so bugger giving him any more!".

Re: Potter Out
Its a near certainty that Sullivan will pick another manager that will fail sooner rather than later. There’s no footballing strategy, philosophy for the longer term. No professional football execs with experience snd success building a successful squad. You have that in place and a solid infrastructure and succession planning with managers or coaches that fit the philosophy or style already identified. The squad woukd not need a rebuild each time.
Sullivan picks who is available with Prem experience and just assumes that will align to the existing squad. Low block low possession to higer possession / passing game but without building a squad to support that and the mediocre manager fails and he yyen picks the next manager who is a survival specialist and back to liw possession / attrition football. And round and round it goes.
It was a matter of time until we are relegated again. The COVID seasons, Moyesball was an unintended break and happy accident. Sullivan is useless, clueless and does not do “joined up” thinking. All so piecemeal and unconnected.
If we avoid relegation this season it will be a surprise with the inept, incompetent Sullivan at the helm.
