Have a few that spring to mind - every track on Deep Purple's Made in Japan for starters.
For that I’d say that the best version of Mighty Quinn that I’ve ever heard is the version on Budapest Live by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band

That's worth a new thread all of its own.

Re: Covered songs better than the original.
In popular music, a cover version, cover song, remake, revival, or simply cover is a new performance or recording by a musician other than the original performer or composer of the song. Originally, it referred to a version of a song released around the same time as the original in order to compete with it. Now, it refers to any subsequent version performed after the original.

I can think of a few of these:-
Motörhead. Motorhead
Motorhead Lost Johnny
Motorhead. The Watcher. All three are old Hawkwind songs
Marillion. Dry Land
Blackmore’s Night. Self Portrait. (originally a Rainbow song)
Peter Barden. Spirit of the Water. (Originally by Camel)
Hawkwind Starflight/Ejection. (originally on a Robert Calvert solo album)Hawkwind also play The Right Stuff from time to time.
On Parole had a few songs that Larry Wallis had already performed with his fellow Stiffs.
So whose was better, Hawkwind or New Kids on the Block?
