What style of play do you want from our next manager?

When the subject of prospective new managers comes up a lot of people tend to focus on win %, trophies won, clubs managed, etc. while ignoring the type of football the manager usually employs. For me this should have far more importance and ideally the club should have a philosophy in mind and continue with it through successive managers rather than change back and forth all the time (as we've been doing for years).

So, if you were to choose a style for the club to work towards and stick with, what would it be?

a) Low block, counter attack
b) Mid-high press, possession
c) High press, direct
d) Other

We changed it for the Palace gane with more of a man for man approach and not the zonal thing. But we still managed to allow Mateta a free header and then Mavro stumbled into KWP and him being down left Mitchell free for their 2nd goal.

Tell me about it! Geo did a video a week or so ago about how we set up at corners and how silly and inflexible and easy to take advantage of it is. Showed some screenshots of games. Basically it's really easy for an opponent to take ALL our tall good headers of the ball right out of the game because they are all zone marking toward the near post, prevent them from getting across the goal and isolate our short players or get a free man in at the back post. All it takes is a good delivery from a corner.

He also showed some examples from Stoke defending corners when Pelach was their manager. Eerily similar. Weirdly he's been here since Potter has and we were totally OK last season. I don't know if he was doing set pieces last season though.

If we don't sort it before we play Arsenal, they'll have a field day against us with the way they attack corners.

He needs to be a good man manager capable of improving players in the team and capable of helping the very promising batch of youngsters from the academy integrate into the squad

No short termism please and don't be cheap Sullivan!

The manager position is the most important position at every club! So be AMBITIOUS!!!!

Let’s play football; it’s not a complicated game! Start with telling our defensive players to talk more, and organise themselves at corners 

We can organise and talk as much as we like at the back but if Potter insists on instructing/coaching them all to play zonal defending at Set Pieces then we will never get to grips properly at Corners etc. Never liked zonal defending, I'm a big believer at proper marking and defend old school.

Zonal markings only for Teams who can afford to let the occasional goal in if they are shit hot going forward if they need to compensate. And there's been zero sign of him changing and coaching that way so it's pointless expecting it to improve under Potters guidance with this set of players he's failed to organise already time and again.

A professional, well run club makes footballing philosophy and style a part of its long term plan. It has already identified which coaches align to that style.  They have performance indicators for a manager that if not met means they are let go and the next coach quickly brought in.

I want a manager who utilises speedy wingers, keeps the middle of the pitch strong defensively and puts together a team that can defend set pieces and crosses. I don't care for passing it out from the back or passing sideways and backwards to keep possession but neither do I want hoofball. Get it to the players that can carry the ball and commit players. Take throw-ins and corners that brings and get up the pitch. I loved watching players like Devonshire, Sinclair, Etherington and even Cresswell at times get up the pitch and stick balls in the danger area. Just make something happen in games instead of waiting for the inevitable loose pass when everything breaks down and we panic.
With players like Summerville, Diouf, Bowen and Guilherme we have some pace and flair which we can use out wide. We have strikers who can finish with good service put in the box. 
Our defense is a shambles as we have gone for passing over positioning, aerial ability and strength. Also not one of them can ping a long pass accurately. Aguerd could on occasion but none of the others can. Switching the play or counter attacking with a slow midfield isn't happening. Changes here for me would be a must for any incoming manager.
