Yeah, I get you. Reaching an agreement (with him and lawyers) on his severance deal with Forest.

Not us reaching a deal directly with Forest.

But Forest will definitely be in that loop, as his new deal with us changes his deal with them.

Its all annoying, but it takes time to smooth out.

Plus, we had to reach agreement on his severance deal with Forest. And his and our legal teams would have been involved.
Why would we have to reach agreement with Forest? They sacked him weeks ago. If taking the West Ham job means that his severance package is reduced then you'd imagine that Nuno would look for extra money from West Ham to make up for it, or simply settle for getting a good wage on a contract.

What could Forest hope to get out of any negotiations with his new club, who presumably would only ask for them not to reduce the severance payout?
Forest would probably have had to be informed. Not directly by West Ham, but via Nuno and his lawyers. Because, reportedly, he had an exit agreement with them that would change (legally) as a consequence of him taking a new role.

It all takes a bit more time, that’s all.

A lot has been made of the timing.

I’m sure it’s not ideal and, of course, it lacked class because it was Sullivan.  But I'm not bothered by it. There’s never an ideal way of sacking a manager and replacing him quickly. At least we’ve avoided the spectacle of Potter’s tenure dragging on just because we couldn’t find a new manager.

I don’t really have any sympathy for Potter. He was utterly useless, he was inexplicably arrogant and prickly for somebody so talentless, and he was never one of us. The guy genuinely doesn’t seem to understand what a terrible job he did here and at Chelsea.

I’m not one to defend this god-awful board, but it’s probably because they didn’t reach an agreement with Nuno, Forest and his lawyers until Friday.

West Ham was not the only party involved in the talks.

Everybody knows that Sullivan and Brady are penny-pinchers, so I imagine their first offers to Nuno were low-balls. Plus, we had to reach agreement on his severance deal with Forest. And his and our legal teams would have been involved.

You don’t get that done a few hours after your last defeat.

Really? Do you like stabbing yourself in the eye with a pen too? Fucking bonkers talk.

He's the best available but let's not pretend he's actually any good. Fairly average manager, not very entertaining football. Safe pair of hands. Better than Potter, Lopetegui for sure, and Moyes? Yes but not by loads. He'll do for now.

Duke,
I agree,I'm afraid. If he omits JWP and we lose badly against Everton then he will have to put him back in against Arsenal. I think he'll play safe against Everton and pacify the fans by playing Potts alongside JWP with Fernandes out left interchanging with Paqueta. Nuno won't want to get a point at least. If Potts is not looking good then he can either bring in Rodrigues or Irving, whoever looks good in training. Same for JWP. I think he will leave Summerville for the last 20/30 minutes depending on circumstances. The players in training who impress the most will get the nod.I expect JWP to be showing how good his set pieces are in training. But I doubt he can show anymore intensity and quick feet or quick passing . I only hope Potts can show much more.Get him taking penalties in training, bang them in like Noble or Dicks, give him the edge, even corners or set pieces. I'd rather not see JWP or Rodrigues as a possibility but think we will, even Irving.

Potter had to go and lets face it Sullivan was always going to get who was available.  As much as the West Ham connection with Bilic was a romantic prospect he hasn't really done anything since the first season with us, although I was intrigued to read somewhere that he was getting his backroom team together, although not sure if true or not.  Marco Silva?  Yep plays decent enough football but has he really been a massive success anywhere?  Anyway he is in a job so Sullivan wouldn't go down the compensation route.  A lot point to Emery but Villa are having a mare like us this season, and I don't think the situation we are in would have suited either Parker or Carrick.  If Nuno could do the job he did at Forest last year I am sure we will all be happy with that.  Let's face it we weren't goping to get a top, top manager in with the state of the club at the moment.

Nuno operates a very similar, albeit slightly more successful business model. Geezers got a three year contract knowing he's got at least a year of that with his feet up.

I don't blame either of them to be honest. Good luck for rinsing as much as they can out of us/Sullivan. Ultimately the blame lies with Sullivan and Brady for such a moronic way to manage the Club.

They think they are actually smart with the finances, yet piss great money away ever since the Europa Conference Final win be it £105M windfall from the sale of Rice, all the European money spent on nothing and now the extortionate cost of 3 managers in the space of just over 1 year since Moyes contract was up. 😱

You have to think that another sacking somewhere might have started the managerial merry go round and someone might have taken Nuno ahead of us. Maybe Villa when Emery goes to Manchester United when they get round to sacking Amorim or Leeds when they get rid of that camp German. Something spooked Sully into action, perhaps an epiphany while he was getting poled by his massive and obvious ladyboy 'bird'.

I’m not a huge fan of Nuno. But now that he’s our manager, I want him to thrive.

He’s a more visceral character than Clipboard Partridge, and stands a better chance of connecting with the fan base.

There’s so much to say in any analysis of why Potter failed.

But the bottom line is that he’s just a very poor manager and coach by Premier League standards.

He’s a Championship-level bloke. He’d be OK back at Swansea, where they can get excited about keeping 53% possession in entirely ineffective areas of the pitch. It won’t be until they get home, that those fans will realise they didn’t see a shot on goal.

Potter’s teams are toothless and don’t threaten goalkeepers enough. No coach should actively discourage strikers from shooting in or around the penalty area. I’m genuinely not sure how a professional football manager expects to win many games with his attitude.

The other thing (of many) that I hated about him, is that he never claimed the club as his. You rarely - if ever - heard him say “we” or “us”. Too often, he described us as “the team”. You never felt there was a visceral connection between him and the club and it’s fans. To him, we were just his next job after Chelsea.

It never felt like he was one of us. And it showed. No passion for the club/job, no blood and guts. And we should be that sort of club.
