Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?
I have witnessed two miracles in my life so I fully believe in God.
I am a Christian and I also like Buddhism.
You reap what you saw Christians say which relates to Karma of the Buddhists.
Life is short, complicated and unexplainable in many ways so I can't imagine it simply being an beginning and an end.

If there was a God, when as a seven year old I was about to give my allegiance to West Ham Utd, a big finger in the sky would have reached out and tapped me on the shoulder and a voice from the heavens would have said "No, don't do that son, you're a good boy and deserve a happy life".

You have to have a degree of faith. This usually comes from known knowns. It can also come from unknowns that fall into the realm of possibility if not fully accepted as probabilities.
What happens tomorrow and how much belief you have in outcomes is in part from a probabilistic belief but some stuff is so likely its fully deterministic.

Re: Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?
I do believe in God but the question I am asking myself is do I believe in the Holy Spirit?
Or as the Portuguese would say Espirito Santo.
A warning in case some of you don't know that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is an unforgivable sin
Mind you, like most religions, it is open to interpretation

Re: Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?
No it isn't.
It is mostly empirical discovery.
There is degree of faith with hypothysis but that is the beginning of the scientific method.
The posiible existence of the Higgs boson is a classic example.

Belief can take two forms
1. Absolute. This is faith
2. degree. This is scientific probabilistic. All science is a degree of faith.

Sikhs have got the right idea, basically believe in a higher power but say they can't know their mind, therefore just live the best life you can, be kind, and hope for the best

Faith in oneself = Good (and sustainable)
Faith in any organised religion = Bad (and unsustainable)
Prove me wrong by posting up your very first memory. Not recollection, but memory.

Re: Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?
Im not religious in the conventional sense, but do believe in something, im just not sure what? Yeah, makes no sense!
Do think religion is a good thing for many people, unfortunately it gets hijacked by the nastier and more extreme and then used for there end goals, maybe that’s the devil at work, who knows?
But just look around, all the Muslims I know seem gentle and nice people yet we have this J1had1 lot who turn that particular religion into something pretty evil and hell bent on imposing there version on everyone or justify how they treat others, Christianity is no better in some ways, just look at all the MAGA types and many on the extreme of the right in the USA especially, all seem to base everything around their beliefs and the Christian god is the only true god, how long before we see radical Christians as we see from Islam.
History shows that’s religion is at the heart of many wars and disputes; how many have died in its name? Again, maybe the devil, evil or whatever, plus any war that’s fought, God seems to be on everyone’s side, how the fuck does that work…………….
But as said, I have belief, but me and my god (or whatever it is) don’t need a church, or to prey or make offerings etc, or need to impose any beliefs on others, it’s a very personal thing if anything..

Re: Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?
Over the last ten thousand years human kind has had many Gods, they cannot all be the real deal but, each group thinks theirs is.
Re: Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?
I do believe in God but couldn't explain it, and understand why people find it difficult, or impossible. I didn't come from a church-going family. It's just a few things that have happened over the years that have given me a faith - which I know is a bit of a get-out, but that's just the way it is for me. That doesn't mean I believe everything that goes with it.
Re: Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?
Just read that and thought it was well written...
"If you really want proof of God’s existence, look in the mirror. Either you’re a cosmic accident with no purpose, or you’re evidence of design. Your choice, but one of those options takes more blind faith than the other"
"All of human technology cannot create a worm, yet you think that you were assembled by some happy accident?"

Re: Do you believe in God? How would you explain your beliefs?
I am against all organised religions but I believe there is a higher power - a big wizard in the sky pulling a few strings - looking after me.
Maybe it's just inner faith/optimism that everything will be ok.
