Toffees Everton vs West Ham | PL | 29.7.25 | Predictions and Match Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

Until West Ham find out mojo again,  a game against a David Moyes managed side will always have some kind of extra significance.

Layer on the pressure on Potter who looks like a dead man walking, and this game is under intense scrutiny.

It looks for all the world like Potter has two games, not to save his job, but to buy a stay if execution, against Everton and Arsenal, made none the easier by these two being amongst the best set piece side in the league....the Hammers clear achilles heel.

The stats this far have backed up the eye test...West Ham ARE terrible at defending the box, none of the keepers help out on crosses, and we give up corners willy nilly.

But if Potter is to cling on, nothing but a win here will do.

OP has less of a clue than Potter or Lopetegui.
3-3-2-2

Has to be 4-2-3-1.
Nuno prefers it.

If Soucek was available I would have played him alongside Potts. Unless Potts has hugely impressed in the 2 days of training then he won't start alongside Fernandes. Not enough time to blend them together.
Over the longer term that should be our midfield 2. Nuno will think we are more than likely to get a point against Everton than Arsenal. Thus a solid defence and midfield.(if that's possible ).
I would like this
Areola
KWP Mavropanos Todibo Diouf
Potts Fernandes
Bowen Paqueta Summerville
Marshal

This is what I think he will play
Areola
KWP Mavropanos Kilman Diuof
Rodrigues JWP Fernandes
Bowen Fulkrug Paqueta

yep Rodrigues, it might be more like a 4-1-2-3.
I just can't see JWP being dropped and he'll probably bring on Potts for Rodrigues and Summerville for  JWP at some stage especially if we need a goal. If it's 0-0 then whoever has trained harder between Marshall and Wilson will come on 60/65 minutes no matter what the score is.

Interesting to see who he picks. I’d hope the following:

Areola (Hermansen needs a reset before trying again)

AWB
Kilman
Mav- I’d prefer Todibo eventually if he can be sorted out but this is smarter off the bat
Diouf

Magassa
Fernandes
Paqueta

Bowen
Fullkrug
Summerville

Hoping unlike the last two he gets us playing in a way where the striker is actually involved/effective in the game. Bit of steel and resilience in the midfield and defenders and plenty of speed incisiveness and cutting edge in transition and going forward. Just make it simple unlike the last two managers.

Also hoping he can identify our areas of weakness and persuade the dwarf to fortify them properly- at the back and up front. They made some great buys at Forest when he was there  I understand it was him until Edu came in in the summer?

A 0 - 0 draw would be a good result in my books Honky, are rare clean sheet and something to build on.  A point away in the prem is always a good result if a bit boring. 🤞

Hmm, this I see as Nuno's most important games: if he selects the same/similar midfield or team we know we'll lose but more than that we will know that he's just another like Cock Piss that can't see the obvious that we can.  If he actually has some balls and mixes it up to get some youth and pace in midfield at the very least then we know he isn't a blind buffoon like the last one.

Still doesn't fix the biggest little problem though...

Feel a bit happier going into the game simply for knowing that Potter isn't involved. Still not expecting much but spirits have been lifted. Slightly!

Not sure how much you can expect from Nuno with 1 day on the training ground.
Getting the starting XI right would be a good start.

Who the fuck voted for Potter to win? Has to have been Potter himself..

Nailed on loss and will make Moyes look like a genius by getting spanked 8-0 under these mindless self-inflicted circumstances.

Be careful what I wish for? I always wished for the BS Regime to finally fuck off for good. That was my wish I was very careful about.

Sad but so true Mike. We’ve been saying that for 10+ years and nothing changes.

And as per supposed ITKs about the next manager:

”David Sullivan will make the final decision. Kretinsky has only been consulted on the names presented to him, with the Czech billionaire’s involvement in any final call described as “limited.”

We remain the only top flight club, with the possible exception of Burnley, where an owner is both the CEO and DOF and a club that has never had either. Because anyone who says “what about Steidten, Hussilos, Macaulay?”  None of these blokes had autonomy and their titles were never DOF.  The constant is Sullivan retaining control and still has veto power over every decision.  The Hammers United and Fan Advisory Board protests are what we all have to get behind. Its the only recourse available that may have influence.  The next game ( Brentford ) should hopefully see numbers swell once we’ve lost to Everton and Arsenal.

Ultimately we need a change of owners but for now the demand for Sullivan and Brady to step away from all football operations is a compelling and reasonable demand. The media are seeing the merits and rationale for it and we have to ratchet up the pressure even if we were to start winning some games because we will be back here again before long, its as inevitable as my long essay style posts 🤭

Set piece strong men against set piece lightweights.  4-1 to Moyes’s Everton.

Only thing that might make it more competitive is dropping JWP ( no chance ) and giving Marshall 60 mins

——— Areola
KWP   Mavro   Todibo   Diouf
——-  Magassa —-  Fernandes
———- Paqueta —————
Bowen ——— Marshall ——— Somerville

Wont happen but I can dream.  Todibo aint great in the air which is asking for trouble I suppose but I’ve had enough of Kilman’s passivity
