Toffees Everton vs West Ham | PL | 29.7.25 | Predictions and Match Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

Until West Ham find out mojo again,  a game against a David Moyes managed side will always have some kind of extra significance.

Layer on the pressure on Potter who looks like a dead man walking, and this game is under intense scrutiny.

It looks for all the world like Potter has two games, not to save his job, but to buy a stay if execution, against Everton and Arsenal, made none the easier by these two being amongst the best set piece side in the league....the Hammers clear achilles heel.

The stats this far have backed up the eye test...West Ham ARE terrible at defending the box, none of the keepers help out on crosses, and we give up corners willy nilly.

But if Potter is to cling on, nothing but a win here will do.

We need CBs that attack every ball and ones that talk. Buy a CB who can lead and direct the other defenders. Makes a big difference.

As mentioned problems in the spine at the back and up top. We need a proper striker who can lead the line.  And Paqueta how frustrating is he  ? He’s a massive liability at times and must think he’s some magician with some of the balls he gives away needlessly.  Needs to play with far more discipline for the team

Nuno has a massive job on his hands

Imagine we'd got magassa in July and done a preseaon.

I like diouf a lot, not the finished article by far but give him a season, and a couple of decent centre backs alongside.

The result may be the same, but I thought that passed the eye test. This is a competitive match which is more than we can say about most of our games this season and last. Much more intent in the middle and attacking third. Fullkrug is at least receiving service, and summerville is giving us another dimension on the left flank. Still need a lot of improvement and you can only polish a turd so much.

He had two Everton players on him. Someone from our team should have made sure that couldn’t happen.

That's because it's not, the silly cunts. Areola actually deals with the actual corner excellently knocking it away from danger. The cross after that was where we all fell asleep ball watching like 10 year olds.

I dont think Bowen is getting much out of the wing today. I’d actually bring Guilherme on at right wing and put Bowen in the middle. If that doesnt work I’d take KWP off, play a back 3 and put Wilson on as well.

I’d also wish we went back to man marking, Its just simpler. No one should get a free header in the box. They had 2 in the first half and scored one.Its mad.

Got to be Wilson for Fullkrug at half-time, surely?

The German needs to spend about 90% less time whinging to refs and about 90% more time moving. He’s as immobile a striker as you will see.

None of this is Nuno’s fault, of course. But, feck me, this team needs a lot of work!

That said, we look more direct in the final third. Summerville makes a big difference.

Magassa looking very tidy, nice to have a midfielder making good forward passes. Sumnerville looking good. Fernandes good.
Paqueta misfiring, what was that shit at the end? Needs to step up.
Fullkrug passing around the box awful, get Wilson on.

Is Paqueta playing 🤷‍♂️

Bring Wilson and Potts on and move Fernandes further up the pitch.

Clearly a better plan with the ball, trying to play in their half. Got his work cut out sorting the usual frailties with idiot centre half's marking a yard away from the player.

As for the fucking ref. Got so scared of that jug eared prick Tarkowski after not booking Magassa for winning the ball that he then proceeded to not book Keane for wiping out Bowen when breaking or O’Brien for a ludicrous challenge on Summerville, yet booked KWP for a nothing foul.

Apart from Summerville, Magassa and Walker-Peters, no one has played that well. We need a few more to step up. Then just hope we don’t concede another corner.

Magassa has Marc Vivian-Foe vibes, and I remember we slaughtered him his first few games and thought he was crap. Will take him some time to get up to speed with the Premier league, but definitely an upgrade on James Ward Potter-Prowse

Nuno will certainly see he needs to work on the defence. Not much confidence in the centre backs or keeper. Magassa has grown into it after a nervy start. Need more from Paqueta, Fernandez and Bowen. Summerville a threat as usual. Wilson or Marshall on for Fulgrug for me. Positives we are still in it.

Magassa made a few mistakes early on and was off the pace but now growing into the game, and he’s on the ball ALOT. Was in the right place at the right time quite a few times and stifled their attacks. I like him, just what we need

Kilman and Mavropanos are equally bad. They also do not help eachother.

I would also go for subbing Paqueta and Fullkrug for Potts and Marshall
Magassa and Potts take center and push Fernandes forward

Dreadful first half. We simply have no real clue or cohesion in forming an attack, and have the two worst centre backs in the PL in defence.

Can’t see anything changing unless we address it in the jan transfer window.

It wasn’t terrible but we lack quality at either end of the pitch.
