Toffees Everton vs West Ham | PL | 29.7.25 | Predictions and Match Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

Until West Ham find out mojo again,  a game against a David Moyes managed side will always have some kind of extra significance.

Layer on the pressure on Potter who looks like a dead man walking, and this game is under intense scrutiny.

It looks for all the world like Potter has two games, not to save his job, but to buy a stay if execution, against Everton and Arsenal, made none the easier by these two being amongst the best set piece side in the league....the Hammers clear achilles heel.

The stats this far have backed up the eye test...West Ham ARE terrible at defending the box, none of the keepers help out on crosses, and we give up corners willy nilly.

But if Potter is to cling on, nothing but a win here will do.

Well worth watching Nuno’s interview. Different level to the last couple of managers. I have to say.

Not classic, but a good start for Nuno as we would have lost that under Potter as he stood by the dugout scratching his beard wondering what to do.

We showed some fight, and also didn’t shit ourselves in the last five minutes. So that’s an improvement. We’re no worse than Everton, which isn’t saying a lot, but at least I’m more hopeful about the season.

I thought it was a mixed bag from Magassa. Lost the ball in dangerous areas of the pitch near our box 1st half, kick it out of play not under pressure, yellow card for late lunge 2nd half just before going off struggling with the pace of the game. Was concerned the longer he stayed on 2nd half and think Nuno recognised that taking him off when he did. But there was also some decent forward passing from him and won a good free kick end of 1st half. Overall he did ok being chucked in at the deep end and think it's fair to say Nuno called it just about right managing him.

Yeah, I’d say that’s spot on. He looked like he wasn’t used to the pace of English football for the first 15-20 minutes. As you might expect. But he won some good tackles, and he clearly doesn’t mind putting his foot in. I thought he adjusted OK for a guy who hasn’t played much in England yet.

He’s still raw. But, let’s face it, if he was the finished article he’d have cost twice as much.

I was actually thoroughly enterained. It doesn't always have to be pretty to be entertaining, sometimes it can just be about heart, passion and playing for the badge. It's called The West Ham Way. Nuno has already understood that element of the game that makes our Fans tick.

First half was always going to be difficult, you have to be an idiot to think we were going to come out in the circumstances and dominate, but I thought it was a pretty even half all round. They weren't particularly great either.

2nd half we were much the better team, created loads of good situations, just didn't get the rub of the green and some ropey finishing unfortunately.

Absolute night & day from the fraud that's just left. Attacking with pace, I'll have some of that.

Sir Alf" wrote: 29 Sep 2025, 22:04 Out of possession we were much better than we have been in a long long time and were the better team second half. I think we created more than them but both teams struggle scoring. We need at least 1 really strong, fast CB and a centre forward who is strong, has pace and can score. Paqueta was rrustrating tonight as he often is in games.

Positives were Magassa, Somerville, Bowen just because of his finishing and second half Diouf really caused them problems.  KWP was solid as always and Fernandes did much better 2nd half.  Pottsy also looked the part.

In summary, some good early signs from Nuno’s West Ham.

I agree,

I’d add, Areola needs to stay in goal.

Paqueta gave the ball away way too much as per.

Special mention for Potts as I thought he did very well when he came on. Snapping in to challenges, keeping possession and looking for forward passes when he could. Loved Nuno immediately playing him when he was exiled from the Subs bench under the div.

So interesting you say that as I love that quality in a manager straight after a performance. I watched Glasner doing the same thing when he first managed Palace when on the Telly and he'd tell them things he liked and didnt like by pointing to areas of the pitch so it's fresh in their minds.

I think it's a really good sign of an astute switched on Manager optimising the moment while he can. Good to see Nuno doing likewise. No stone left unturned stuff. Potter would have remained shell shocked rooted to the spot by comparison.

Much better second half - and a team that showed a real determination and spirit after a poor first half. Not sure if they got the hairdryer treatment, but Nuno clearly had words at half-time.

Finished looking the stronger team, and played vertically (which we rarely did under Potter).

Diouf and Summerville down the left, plus a returning AWB/KWP and Bowen down the right gives us something out wide.

Lots to sort out, still. Fullkrug is very poor as a lone striker. He’s just not mobile enough. Seems like somebody who’d play better in an old style 4-4-2. But he gives us nothing down the middle on his own.

Something to build on.

Get legs in the side and see the difference. We lose that under Potter.

Encouraging start from Nuno.

Mav had a slight momentary wobble but did well overall. We've just improved all over the pitch. Think we'll be OK .
