Nuno In
Welcome, Nuno son.
Not my first choice, wish we were more forward looking and all that. But he's here, and to be honest, he's probably what we need given everything we all know is wrong with the club and the team at present.
Positives are he was a goalkeeper, so he'll surely make the best decision on that front going forward. Hermansen has looked shocking, but those that had watched him regularly all rated him, so who knows, maybe in a different set up he might not be so bad, but expect Areloa to be first choice.
Brought Kilman into the Wolves team, and built him into a player we were stupid enough to pay £40mil for. Can't see if myself, but maybe he'll make him look competent, whatever way, the defence will improve under him. It can't not. And set pieces against us won't feel like penalty's.
He favours attacking fullbacks who get forward, and ours are suited to that. JWP won't start from now. The biggest positive of this appointment. He loves wingers, and we have one of the best in the league in Bowen, a rapid one in Summerville, and Guilherme will hopefully get some game time as back up in a style that will suit him. Fullkrug can maybe be our Chris Wood. Probably not, but lets hope so.
Ovbviously he's a counter attacking manager, but I don't think he's from the last 2 years of Moyes playbook. Hopefully it'll be the early version of Moyes, with quicker pressing and faster counter attacking. Let's fucking hope so. I remember Forest beating someone 7-0, and they scored loads of goals throughout the season.
The main problem remains, but fucking hell, this change was needed.

Re: Nuno In
Nuno knows JWP can't hack it so there's no future for him as regards to Todibo Potts senior and Robson probably gave Nuno the run down and that was enough for Nuno.
Re: Nuno In
Good points Scorch. Todibo I fear will not fit Nuno’s tactics. Leaving aside attitude for a moment, Todibo was bought to be a ball playing CB that brings it out from the back and can play thru the lines to a deep lying forward or midfielder. He had the best stats across Europe for that. Sadly he didnt even manage that in the West Ham team but having a weak, very slow midfield didnt help.
Todibo is not strong in 1 to 1 duels and he was not famed for his physicality. His aerial ability is poor too. He just doesnt fit the need for CBs that will sit deeper in Nuno’s counter attacking approach. Could Nuno and coaching team develop him to improve the physical side , ability in the air? Possibly but unlikely imo. He’d ( Todibo) possibly be more suited to playing in midfield in a low block and fast counter attack system?
So the odds are on him being sold for galf what we paid for him in Jan or the summer. Its what happrns when the owners have no long term plan or vision. We oscilate from one footballing style to another via appointing totally different kinds of managers sinply because they are out of work and available. Its cost us in the hundreds of millions I reckon. Another damning indictment of how Sullivan and Brady run the club

Re: Nuno In
I think it was both a football decision, and a stamp of authority. A message to all the players.
After having that PE teacher and his KUMB approach to management, worrying about everyone's feelings, Nuno has bowled in with a bit of WHO swagger.
I fucking love it.

Re: Nuno In
It was the 'for the good of the squad' bit that was interesting. I wonder if JWP's continued inclusion was pissing the other players off and causing issues. More of a Potter issue than a JWP one if that's the case and probably quite embarrassing for the player. Or he was a troublemaker behind the scenes or fucking kicked off about being dropped/Nuno rocking up. You never know, but he doesn't seem to be that sort of bloke.
Either way assuming he's not been a cock I feel for him a bit as he seems an amiable bloke and definitely tried his best, but he just can't cut it and his one strength in set pieces has completely deserted him in the last 18 months rendering him completely superfluous to the team. Like Soucek would be if he never scored any goals.
However it was plain to all of us he had to be dropped from the side if we were to get any better at all. It'll always be a complete mystery to me why he kept picking him with unwavering faith. I'd love to know. Only thing I can think of is that he was the most 'loyal' player- but you cannot pick people based upon that.
Anyway, Nuno has done what needed to be done immediately on arrival for the good of the team in terms of improving and it showed on the pitch after only two day. I hope he can slap Todibo into shape as well, and get him to stop being a cսnt and get something out of him.
Free swing at Arsenal this weekend so I hope he goes the 'nothing to lose' and anything more than 0 points is a bonus so let's go for it if we get opportunities route rather than the Moyes attitude of retreating to our own box and grimly trying to hang on for 0-0 from kick off.

Re: Nuno In
Can't see the issue with dropping JWP.
It allows Nuno to stamp his authority, plus the players who came in played better and we looked better for it.
He's now getting £115k a week for not doing much. I'll sure he'll be fine.

Re: Nuno In
Mad innit, we've all been watching JWP struggle for the last 10 months, slowly chasing shadows, no goals, no assists, set pieces turned to shit.
New manager who knows him well takes decisive action straight away, and yet some people think he shouldn't have done it
Fuck this managing lark.

Re: Nuno In
Nuno saw enough of JWP at Forest to know he isn't a player he wants or needs. We have Fernandes, Magassa, Potts, Soucek, Paqueta, Guido, Irving - All better than JWP. Why would Nuno worry about JWP and giving him a chance? He knows he can't offer what he wants. Football is a harsh business.
Re: Nuno In
Nuno explained that he wanted physicality in central midfield which JWP does not have and never did. He has no set piece excellence anymore and is, at 30, avyard slower than he was at his peak and that was never termed as “quick “. Too old and lightweight for the ever faster and more intense Prem Lge. Why has Guido not been jetisoned too? He is as slow but is physical so might be able to be some use as squad back up until better players are brought in.
In other words, Nuno has a clear tactical plan and kniws the type of players needdd. JWP does not fit to it in any way. He didnt really fit for Potter either who trusted experience and past reputation over youth. It cost him his job ultimately and deservedly so.

Re: Nuno In
Why would there have been a fallout? Why do you need to find an alternative reason from it just being a football decision?
Is it not possible for a manager not to rate a player that most of us with eyes don't rate? He's been fucking toilet, I wouldn't have him in my squad either. His attitude can't be questioned, so no need for the conspiracies.
I think it's pretty obvious with this manager, what you see is what you get. He said it's purely a football decision, i believe and agree with him.

I wouldn't say Nuno is an idiot at all. Would just go back to what I said originally that I think there has been a fallout somewhere down the line.

Re: Nuno In
Yeah apologies, the goals & assists he's been producing since he returned from Forest are hard to ignore, and he's a big reason we had been doing so well.
Hopefully this new idiot manager opens his eyes and realises what we're missing. And also hope he's a lot more gentle with the players in future, we don't want anyone's mental health affected by him being decisive.

He's absolutely pony, and what exactly is it you've seen from him that offers more than the equally shit Rodriguez?
Goals, assists, corners. Rodriguez is the only player in the squad slower than JWP.

JWP has drawn alot of criticism but he offers more than Rodriguez who was in the squad.
Who cares, quite honestly.
The manager saw him close up at his old club, didn’t fancy him after giving him an initial chance, and bombed him out early. Done the same here, good. He's absolutely pony, and what exactly is it you've seen from him that offers more than the equally shit Rodriguez?
I think it's fucking brilliant, walking through the door and throwing a few bombs about. Same with Todibo. Fuck me we've been desperate for some of that. No more easy street and coasting at West Ham.

I thought the same. Ward-Prowse ain't completely dogshit as some like to think he is and no way is he worse than Rodriguez playing in England/Europe. The last Moyes season proved that. They've fallen out and we won't know why exactly.
I looked back quickly at Ward-Prowse results for Forest last season and it started off well with an impressive win away at Liverpool playing the entire game in Midfield (because you know he's that shit and hopeless these days..). Then he follows that up for his new Club with a decent point away at Brighton. He also contributed to a decent 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge before getting a 2nd yellow card late on at Chelsea which the manager may have been fucked off about letting his team mates down and a chance to win the game there? That's only speculation though.

Re: Nuno In
We will learn more against the Arse at their gaff. The best set piece takers in the league versus us tye worst defenders at set pieces.
Also they will have 80% possession and we will need to be fautless at the back. Lets be honest, its highly likely we lose bit a narrow defeat and creating some chances and/ or scoring from them will constitute progress of sorts.

Yet, since he joined us there's been absolutely fuck all. You'd think he would still manage at least a couple per season but zero.
How does that happen?
As mentioned I can't remember the last time we had a free kick opportunity in a good area to score directly.
