Sorry for the late answers. Grabbed what may be a last round of the season (as I am a fair weather golfer!) at the wonderful Ifield Golf Club. Yet another Club that is soon to be closed to housing developers which makes around 10 gone in my area alone in the last few years. All very sad.

17 today thanks zico.
I did an essay at University demolishing Descartes especially going from I think therefore I am to the definite existence of God.
I was a bit of a twat back then but most of us grow up a bit thankfully.

Thanks Zico.
Re: Daily Quiz anyone?
East, that's a hell of an explanation to remind me that I made a massive typo!
It is meant to read "directly", no idea how I put diagonally down. Must confess though I oftern wondered why the numbers were arranged as they were. Stumbled across this, it's quite interesting but I still don't understand it!

Re: Daily Quiz anyone?
14 today, thanks Zico
I did get 3 as the answer to what number is "diagonally" opposite 20 on a dartboard. However, that was on the assumption that what you meant was directly opposite. However, that got me thinking, can you have a diagonal on a circle? It is not straightforward, but it seems that you can, but not in a strict geometrical sense. And if you want to know the answer(s) would as I thought, be 19 or 17
Here is what AI has to say on the subject

I did get 3 as the answer to what number is "diagonally" opposite 20 on a dartboard. However, that was on the assumption that what you meant was directly opposite. However, that got me thinking, can you have a diagonal on a circle? It is not straightforward, but it seems that you can, but not in a strict geometrical sense. And if you want to know the answer(s) would as I thought, be 19 or 17
Here is what AI has to say on the subject
- Location: While the 3 is on the opposite side of the board from the 20, it is not in a symmetrical position. The 19 is on the bottom-left, almost perfectly aligned diagonally across from the 20 at the top. The 17 is in the bottom-right, forming the other main diagonal. The 3 is positioned between the 17 and the 19 on the lower part of the board, not in a true diagonal spot.
- The penalty design: The diagonal relationship is specifically engineered to punish players. The 20 is surrounded by the very low 1 and 5. If a player aims for the "triple 20" and misses widely, they risk hitting one of the other high-value numbers (19, 17) that are placed "diagonally" away. The number 3 is next to 17, and also flanked by 19's neighbor, 7. This arrangement forces players to be precise.
- The diagonal definition: The concept of "diagonally opposite" on a dartboard isn't based on a rigid mathematical grid like a rectangle. Instead, it refers to the highest-value numbers that are positioned far apart across the circular board to maximize the penalty for an inaccurate throw. The primary "diagonal" pairs that follow this logic are 20 and 19 and 20 and 17.
