NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Watching both West Ham and the Jets right now is like hammering giant nails into your own eyes - twice every weekend.
There’s just no escape from relentless misery. This could be the longest season in all of sport.
The whisky stock must be high.

Niners getting it done. Shanahan has to be a coach of the year candidate.
CMC looks unstoppable all of a sudden and the Defwnse hasn’t missed a step even with Bosa and Warner out.
As Kittle gets healthy and Pearsall and Aiyuk return we will have enough of an offense to play a more balanced style of offense.
Question is will Purdy get back up to speed quick enough when he returns cos Mac Jones is playing lights out.

Vikes fell to a predictable defeat albeit a fairly close one considering our injury list.

Of course, the injury situation throughout the roster is abysmal but there's an old saying about knowing the price of everything, but the value of nothing. You reward consistency and leadership, and the front office dropped a bollock
Yeah, Washington has lost some of the excellent momentum from last year, TM. The treatment of McLaurin is really odd - he's an excellent WR and most sides would give their right arm to have him. So to speak!
Daniels not being 100% hasn't helped, either. It was always going to be a challenging year for him after last season's amazing performances - not least because HCs now have a lot of tape to watch and will prioritise containing him. So his extra fitness issues - missing a couple of games etc - have not helped. You've probably seen a lot more of him, but he hasn't looked 100% whenever I've seen him this season.

Saw you were there mate, one of my bucket list games, though glad it wasn't that one.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
I like Rob Saleh. He's a good bloke. But he needs to spend another year or so as a DC, and gradually attend more offensive/special teams meetings - gain more experience in what it takes to do well overseeing decisions on that side of the ball.
Then he can take another shot as a HC.
Was reminded last night that - apart from the utterly useless Adam Gase - the last HC the Jets appointed who already had HC experience was Bill Parcells. And that was in 1997: 28 years ago. Gase apart, every head coach we've appointed since then has been an inexperienced first-timer. The only guy who really coped with it was Rex Ryan, and that's because his defense was genuinely elite-level (significantly better than Saleh's). Rex was clueless on offense, but he got away with it because the Revis-led defense was outstanding.
That's Woody Johnson's cheap, David Sullivan-style recruitment regime for you. For Sullivan read Johnson.

This Saleh bloke is looking really good coaching the defence.![]()
Saleh is an excellent defensive co-ordinator. He always was. He was NOT a head coach in any way whatsoever. There is a massive difference between being a specialist coach on one side of the ball, and being the leading play-caller, coach, organiser, analyst, culture-setting, co-ordinator of an entire franchise.
When Saleh gave up defensive play-calling so that he could try to improve all of the other important stuff, he melted like chocolate in the sun.
Aaron Glenn currently shaping up the same way. Co-ordinator jobs are easy by comparison.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
The defense is quite poor, tbh. They are decent at containment. But they have no penetration from the d-line or linebackers, and no ability to take the ball away from opponents in the secondary.
The lack of takeaways in the first seven games has been shocking. They missed at least two sacks last night because linemen fannied around when they should have gone after the QB. At one point, they had a free run at Young (having beaten the blockers) and he managed to get his pass off before a lineman even got close to him. They are too hesitant because they’re expecting to be picked apart. So they ensure it happens.
They are still a terribly coached team. Were last year, and nothing has changed yet.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Feck me! Just when you think the Jets can’t possibly plunge to new depths, they find a way to do it!
Today was possibly the worst all-round performance I’ve seen from them.
They finally benched Fields at half-time. He’s gone. There is little hope for that kid. He’s in his fifth year and getting worse by the week. He’s got the yips and can’t throw the ball. He can’t read defensive patterns, either. He’s completely busted.
But the rest of the team can’t tie their shoelaces.
Glenn looks a broken man at times. Already - after seven games of his first season. All the bravado and chutzpah of his appointment has gone and he’s learning, harshly, how hard it is to be a head coach.
I like Glenn. And we need to show patience. But this is currently the worst Jets team of all time. Which is quite an achievement. At some point in a complete “rebuild” (new HC, new GM, new OC, new D.C., new scouts, new position coaches) you have to exhibit some progress. Show a glimmer of hope. Right now, there is nothing. At all.
Genuinely don’t know where their first win will come from.

I admire your positivity, Shorty, but I'm long past the point where I think the Jets' draft moves help the franchise.
Don't get me wrong, we've actually drafted OK - and well at times - in the last few years. Garrett, Sauce, Membou etc. We've done OK at picking good players with high picks in more recent years. Could have been better, but certainly could have been worse.
The problem is what we do with those players once we start training. It's a franchise that under-utilises its assets in a big way. And that's all because the shit trickles down from the ownership. Poor owners appoint poor GM's and (often) poor (or, more specifically, inexperienced) HCs, who appoint poor (or inexperienced) coaches, who underperform when coaching players, who then fail to maximise their potential or gel as a unit.
I have a lot of time for Todd Bowles and Rob Saleh, for example. But at the time they were appointed as HCs they were not ready to do the job. I like Aaron Glenn - he's a proper Jets fan and a smart man. Maybe he'll buck the trend. But the early signs are not great.
The lack of a coherent, highly professional and working Owner/GM/coaching culture at the Jets has long been the franchise's downfall. Like West Ham, it's run like a circus by the ownership and poor, cheap and ill-informed decision-making by Woody Johnson and his board constantly hinder the Jets. As with West Ham, it's not until he goes that the culture will change. 15 years without a play-off appearance, in a league obsessed with parity, is not a coincidence. It's indicative of woeful decision-making at the top.
For David Sullivan read Woody Johnson.

Resurgent Panthers up next. Then Flacco’s resurgent Bengals.
We could be 0-8 going into bye week. Which will now be dubbed “bye, bye” week.
You get to zip-8. You can start looking forward too the draft south. Try watching some of the big college games. See who’s getting picked high. And who you like.? It was the only shoot of hope I got last season. Also check out the coaches and see if ownership start doing something right. Still don’t think you finish last. Saints and Titan’s are worse all round.
