Bands you think of as 'One person plus anybody'

Clearly loads of people just see/hear the singer of the band and don't notice the band members. There's even people on here naming solo artists for fuck's sake. Probably not many bands where the general public don't think of them as being the singer plus anybody.


 

An interesting complimentary thread could be bands where the primary/best known member wasn't or isn't the lead siger.

I'll start with Van Halen.

Definitely Lennon and McCartney rather than Mick Hucknall and the other blokes.

One of them isn't even in the live band.
He is sort of like Jeremy Dyson in the League of Gentlemen.

I always thought being one of the other three in Coldplay would have been pretty much the perfect gig. All the financial benefits of being in a huge band, without the drawbacks of being a recognisable 'celebrity'.

Maybe I’m showing my lack of knowledge about the band but as someone who’s not hugely into them, I’d say The Cure

The Cure had a bass player, Simon Gallup, who was responsible for that bass heavy gothic sound. He played with them for most of their career but wasn't on their first or fifth albums, both of which sound completely different to the rest of their output. 

Like I said before, to the general public, ie those who don't know a band particularly well, pretty much every group is the singer plus anybody.

I'd say no to that. Bernard was very important to their sound but he's been dead 30 years, while Nile has kept going and is still high profile.
