It will have been 16 days since we saw what football at the top end of things could look like by Arsenal, who made us look second class citizens in footballing terms.

This game is unusual this season, in so far as the bookies have us down as favourites to win.  Monday nigth, under the lights....but how empty will the bowl be.  With a boycott planned, kids for a quid, general sale tickets up for cheap, and Nuno's first home game, the atmosphere and attendance is anyone's guess.

Injuries wise, our Big Fucking German is big fucking injured again...reducing the options up front to the two Callum's.  Nuno chose to save ~86k in wages last time out, preferring the pace and mobility of Marshall over Wilson, and it will be interesting to see if he does the same thing here, or goes for a 'makeshift' centreforward.  And of course Soucek is back.

Other than that, there are no fresh concerns reported going into the weekend.

Predicted Starting Lineup:
Areola

Wan Bissaka   Mavropanos    Kilman    Diouf

Magassa

Fernandes             Soucek       Paqueta       Summerville

Bowen (c)
Subs: Hermansen, KWP, Igor, Potts, Guilherme, Marshall, Rodriguez, Wilson, Scarles

Predicted Score: 1-0 (Soucek)

Paqueta up front when he had either Wilson and Marshall available.

And for me he went with Irving when I personally would have chosen Potts ahead of him and Igor on the Bench instead of either Centre Back with the shocking form they're both in.

Totally agree. Except that Igor is a clueless lump. I watch a lot of Italian football (family thing). And there is a very good reason why he got booted out of Florence.

We bought Brighton’s 5th choice CB out of panic.

Really, don’t expect much.

I made that 9 fuck ups on team selection last night

I’d like to congratulate him on playing a goalkeeper in goal though as there must of been moments before kick off where he was tempted to put him on the wing

I really felt for Scarles last night. Genuinely. He’s a talented kid, but his new manager threw him to the wolves.

He’s our back up LEFT back, who will get better the more time he spends training with the first team and playing decent level games for the stiffs. Let him sit in the squad and learn. Then come in and play in his best position when he’s needed. He’ll grow into that.

He is NOT, and never will be, a right-back. He was like a fish out of water. Their left-winger had a field day.

I hope Nuno learned a very quick, never to be repeated lesson, last night. Because his starting line up was batshit. He had AWB and KWP available at right back. He was trying to be too clever too soon.

Watched it in a pub and wish I hadn’t. That was one of the worst displays I have seen and Brentford should  have scored 6. We were just terrible. No fight, no effort, no idea.
There is certainly a lot of  work to do.

The sight of Wilson undoing his boots before the final whistle said it all, whilst Paqueta ran around up top like a headless chicken yet again. I wonder whether one of his boots is still being surgically removed from Nunos arsehole this morning..

I appreciate that Nuno hasn’t got his trusted coaching team around him yet but I’m amazed that no one thought to say of his suggested team, “Are you sure boss?” Just what we need. Another ego on legs who trusts his judgement when everyone else can see it’s mad.

Decent managers aren't jobless. Decent managers need to be scouted out, assessed that they have the same ethos and vision of the club and the way it plays, then you pay the compo and get them in.

We get whoever is on the dole.

I said it at the start, Nuno is just another Potter. We are fucking woeful and last night you couldn't pick a player in the side or on the bench that would change it.

We need Burnley and/or Leeds to totally collapse to save us as we are showing no signs of savings ourselves whatsoever.
The Leeds game on Friday is now crucial to at least get a draw from and ideally we should be targetting this as another game to pick up 3 valuable points. Elland Road is going to be jumping and I hope the players is much better prepared this time. Losing it really aint an option. That would create a 7 point gap and a big goal difference already.

It was truly baffling.

I don’t think you’d have 1 fan or pundit picking that team & setting up like that. I just can’t understand what he was trying to do.

Good analysis.

Let’s hope Paqueta is dropped for Leeds because he will hate it at Elland Road, we need some fighters in midfield so fingers crossed for Potts and Magassa. Stick Wilson up front and put Igor at the back with Todibo.

**** guaranteed none of this will happen and JWP will be brought back ***

The only redeeming thing about our nailed on relegation is that Sullivan’s ludicrous valuation of the club will plummet massively.

Nobody’s paying £800m for us in the Premier League. I doubt they’ll even pay £500m for us in the championship.

Very good point. Either they're equally off their fucking heads chucking the poor lad under the bus or Nuno wasn't at all listening and wanted to still go ahead with his wacky plan anyway.

I've got even less faith than the small slither I had that Nuno would keep us up, based on that team selection and performance last night.  It was truly baffling.

He's just another manager that probably see us as a free hit and is fairly ok with experimenting the way he did last night.  If he gets sacked, then so what?  He gets a nice little earner out of it.

I'm not at all shocked or angry at the situation we're in.  I could see this coming at the end of last season and have pretty much gone through all the stages and accepted it.

Sullivan is likely to be hung out to dry this season by the press, especially as we're doing just as bad in the women's football.  That's going to be the best thing to come out of this season.

I think the Carragher comments are helpful. You’re always going to get twerps on the BBC website saying ‘this is what you get for hounding out David Moyes”. Sky put their cameras on Sullivan and Brady. I don’t know what the long term prospects are for the club but they deserve to be in the media’s sights which is absolutely where they are now

We have an appalling squad balance that any manager on earth would struggle to get a tune out of.

Having said that, managers don't do themselves any favours but I just think nuno and those that went before him were at a loss at what to do with the shit hand they have every week, hence the frankly odd looking selections.

We'll struggle until at least January and I don't hold out much hope for after that.

We seem to going backwards as a club. After every pathetic display I think, thats it, Rock bottom,we can only improve. But no, we somehow manage to find another level of uselessness.

The only positive for me is that I care less and less as time goes on. I no longer allow this club to affect my daily life/mood. Bit of advice for anyone still seething after last night: let it go, it really isn't worth the mental grief. And you can bet any amount that not one single director/coach /player has woken up this morning worrying about how YOU are feeling !

When they showed our results against Brentford at home we have only won once in about 10 games against them at home.    That tells the story of how bad we've been for a long time.
