----------------------------------------------------------

Well after the disaster of Monday at Brentford, the thought of more West Ham in the same week is enough to put anyone in a bad mood.  The 'pros' always talk about wanting to get bad games out of their system quickly, and this gives them that opportunity, but also sets up a horrible start to the weekend for the rest of us!

Teamwise, Mavro is out with what looked a nasty hamstring injury.  Fullkrug is still broken, and Earthy remains unfit.  Otherwise the rest of the squad are fit from a health perspective....maybe less so from a 'wear the shirt' angle.

Nuno's logic for his inverted fullbacks it's been revealed was to try and counter Brentford's inverted wing thread, by showing them onto the defender's strong foot...the less said about the success of that the better.  And it struggles to explain Irving and Soucek in the pivot, beyond maybe 'they're both tall'.

Anyway, hopefully that's the last of the experimentation and we can revert to what at least appears a bit less shit.  Wouldn't surprise me to see him go with a back 5 in this game though (and what I'll assume for my predicted XI).

Predicted lineup:
Areola

Wan Bissaka    Kilman     Igor
Summerville                                            Diouf
Magassa Fernandes Paqueta

Soucek

Bowen
Subs: Hermansen, KWP, Todibo, Scarles, Potts, Irving, Guilherme, Wilson, Marshall

The squad is now a real quandary.  We don't have a good CB pairing...Todibo looks hopeless, Kilman and Igor both left footed, with one an unknown and the other weak as the senior CB.  Mavro was signed to be 3rd choice, but he's suddenly the most important man in the back line...a problem in itself.

Summerville is a must have...the only true pace in the side so leaving him out can't be compromised.  If 3 at the back and 3-4-3 was viable, not a problem....but once again we don't have a midfield with a logical two-man pairing.  Add in that Bwoen and Soucek are the only goals, and Paqueta is the only real 'vision' and we are in a bad place with a squad that don't work in combination.

So will he gamble on a bad back two, an untried midfield pair, or leave out one of the 'key' players in Soucek, Bowen, Paqueta, and Summerville.

And as for playing a real striker....

Predicted Score: Leeds 2 : 0 West Ham.

Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

COYI!

Ideally he needs to go back to the sort of set up that we used v Everton and Arsenal.

Magassa, Diouf, Wan-Bissaka, Wilson. ➡ KWP, Scarles, Soucek, Irving

If Mavropanos was fit, I'd put him in instead of Todibo.

Would be typical of this West Ham to actually turn up away from home and deliver a performance after stinking the place out at Stratford.

*by default I guess. However I think as much as his stock has risen simply by sitting on the bench, it'll drop like a stone when he's on the pitch and further the longer he's actually on the pitch (would love to be wrong but he is clearly not the answer. The answer is not at the club presently) assuming Sullivan hasn't vetoed using the bloke HE brought in over everyone's head on that deal in order to now save money which would make this the most pointless transfer possibly in our history?

i can think of a number of transfers we've made in recent times and been screaming 'WHY?!?!?!?' because its so fucking obvious that they are not going to work out. Sullivan punts that will cost us out PL Place.
Absolutely. I think on the face of it we've signed worse/less talented players, but every facet surrounding this one (past it, injury prone, old manager didn't want him, new manager doesn't want him, fans didn't want him, Salthouse brown envelope special which no doubt benefited Sullivan personally, clearly unable to be relied on to lead the line or stay fit, was completely the wrong player for us, other better options ignored) plus the possibility managers have been forbidden to use him for cost purposes just makes this one so fucking pointless in every way. NO ONE benefits aside from Sullivan and his agent. It's a pain for the manager, he doesn't improve the team, the player seems unhappy, it's ridiculous.

Lose this and TBH it's looking fucking grim.

Nuno needs to not try and be too clever, just pick a team that's fundamentally sound with players in the correct position playing to their (limited) strengths

Areola

AWB
Kilman
Todibo (rank partnership but we've got no other option than those two)
Diouf

Magassa/Potts
Fernandes
Paqueta

Bowen
Wilson*
Summerville

Thinking outside the box and it may look bonkers but I would go with something like this, maybe with Potts ahead of Magassa, Fernandes or Paqueta. Maybe swap Magassa and Paqueta over but as I said before we need three in there.  AWB and Soucek couldn't do any worse than the two fairies that were there on Monday.  At least Soucek will head and block.  KWP has done ok at right back, rather than the bizarre left option. Wilson deserves a chance.  Failing that I'd sign Steve bloody Potts up and stick him at centre half.  Can't do any worse.

I've seen some woeful performances over the years, but nothing 'tops' the sheer awfulness of Monday night.

Anything remotely resembling that and it's a certain defeat, and scrabbling about for the remainder of the season to get to 12 pts...come on, we can 'beat' Derby 😄😄
