I did try to watch the superbowl once but it was so boring. The English commentator was an idiot who kept referring to DEEfence and OFFence. Cheerleaders, people with big foam gloves, a bloke playing a banjo dressed as a cowboy, and the inane jargon of the commentary team all irritated me. The last straw was when the Washington Redskins scored a touchdown the team started doing a dance like the Okey Kokey. I said to myself fuck this and went to bed. It was so long and boring when watched live. Maybe the quarter back needs a little bit of skill but most of the rest only need to be big fuckers. In the paper the next day the reporter referred to the half time entertainment as "barbaric."  Let's face it, it is a shit sport.

It is a  contrived Rugby variant without the excitement It should be called US Rugby. It is long winded , taking forever, with a couple of seconds activity every few minutes. No skill is required other than catching the spheroid object and running with it. It is played mostly by big, steroid fueled blokes.

Might not be your cup of tea, fella: I get that. It’s a marmite sport.

But the idea that there’s “no skill” involved is bonkers.

It’s very skilful if you know what you’re looking at. Unless you’re watching the Jets. In which case, I understand every word you’re saying.

I think we're getting what we deserve this year, and the football gods have spoken. If you have a player like Mclaurin who wildly exceeds their draft status, has five consecutive 1000 yard seasons (only 81 yards short of six consecutive, with 919 in his rookie year) and fuck him around, a model professional that hasn't given us an ounce of problems since we signed him. It's no shock it's imploding

Of course, the injury situation throughout the roster is abysmal but there's an old saying about knowing the price of everything, but the value of nothing. You reward consistency and leadership, and the front office dropped a bollock

Yeah, Washington has lost some of the excellent momentum from last year, TM. The treatment of McLaurin is really odd - he's an excellent WR and most sides would give their right arm to have him. So to speak!

Daniels not being 100% hasn't helped, either. It was always going to be a challenging year for him after last season's amazing performances - not least because HCs now have a lot of tape to watch and will prioritise containing him. So his extra fitness issues - missing a couple of games etc - have not helped. You've probably seen a lot more of him, but he hasn't looked 100% whenever I've seen him this season.

I like Rob Saleh. He's a good bloke. But he needs to spend another year or so as a DC, and gradually attend more offensive/special teams meetings - gain more experience in what it takes to do well overseeing decisions on that side of the ball.

Then he can take another shot as a HC.

Was reminded last night that - apart from the utterly useless Adam Gase - the last HC the Jets appointed who already had HC experience was Bill Parcells. And that was in 1997: 28 years ago. Gase apart, every head coach we've appointed since then has been an inexperienced first-timer. The only guy who really coped with it was Rex Ryan, and that's because his defense was genuinely elite-level (significantly better than Saleh's). Rex was clueless on offense, but he got away with it because the Revis-led defense was outstanding.

That's Woody Johnson's cheap, David Sullivan-style recruitment regime for you. For Sullivan read Johnson.

49ers are looking pretty good considering 90% of their stars are out injured.  McCaffrey had one of his ridiculous games where he just smashed through everyone.

This Saleh bloke is looking really good coaching the defence. 

Saleh is an excellent defensive co-ordinator. He always was. He was NOT a head coach in any way whatsoever. There is a massive difference between being a specialist coach on one side of the ball, and being the leading play-caller, coach, organiser, analyst, culture-setting, co-ordinator of an entire franchise.

When Saleh gave up defensive play-calling so that he could try to improve all of the other important stuff, he melted like chocolate in the sun.

Aaron Glenn currently shaping up the same way. Co-ordinator jobs are easy by comparison.

You're defence is still in pretty decent shape (Sauce Garnder notwithstanding) especially given the time they have had to stay on the field.
Offensively it is a total car crash.

The defense is quite poor, tbh. They are decent at containment. But they have no penetration from the d-line or linebackers, and no ability to take the ball away from opponents in the secondary.

The lack of takeaways in the first seven games has been shocking. They missed at least two sacks last night because linemen fannied around when they should have gone after the QB. At one point, they had a free run at Young (having beaten the blockers) and he managed to get his pass off before a lineman even got close to him. They are too hesitant because they’re expecting to be picked apart. So they ensure it happens.

They are still a terribly coached team. Were last year, and nothing has changed yet.
