Re: Will Still sacked
Hard to judge what another teams manager is like unless you’re watching the team every week but I wouldn’t have thought that Still would have had such a quick rise through the management ranks without having something about him. Southampton fans will know best where the failures are.

Re: Will Still sacked
Only a few managers who have the luxury of being safe as houses in their positions, untouchable 'icons' or it's going extremely for well can ever 'speak their mind' in interviews rather than cliches and platitudes and know they won't get much blowback from the arse kissing press whatever they say.
Fergie
Klopp
Guardiola
Mourinho
Basically them. Everyone else has to be dull as dishwater to avoid getting ripped apart by the press. Look at Ange. Overplayed his hand and acted the big bollocks in his first few months at spurs, didn't shut up and they tore him a new one until the day he was sacked by Forest. Potter escaped a lot of pelters in the press by being so bland and never answering questions until he started getting tetchy toward then end and look what happened there with the sudden turn on him, along with the face swapping stuff etc.
It's key for success for a manager to just keep cards close to chest, not say how they really feel and be banal. I think it's a lesson young managers who have only ever really tasted success learn pretty quickly when results stop going their way.

It’s the media training that as gank point as out is at fault. Pre and post match interviews are contractual requirements in most case now full of empty and meaningless words, the bland leading the bland.
Not like the days of SirFerg where his interviews, especially after a defeat, were eagerly awaited.

So true. What is it that makes them do that? Genuinely, do they get taught it at the UEFA/FA courses these days? With a few exceptions, they all talk in circles.
Yes. There are many tiers to 'mexia training' so if you do the full suite of coaching licenses, you also do the full progression of media training. Each module builds upon the modules completed to date so once you've done the lot, each fully-qualified coach has undertaken the exact same set of media training modules which explains why they all sound similar. When they're using deflection and you don't quite understand what they're saying, that's the point at which you notice that they're talking in the same way as the last coach you didn't understand.
We don't really pay attention to coaches' press conferences outside of who we support but you can look at a few on YouTube, especially if you look at similar managerial positions like an under-pressure boss on a losing streak having just lost again, and you'll recognise very similar platitudes throughout.
In sport, you get a more broad licensing authority the higher you progress so you get UK qualifications, then UEFA (Europe) then FIFA (world) awards which explains why top-level coaches rattle off the same old nonsense no matter where they are from in similar situations, both positive and negative.
It's training, and if you defer from the training, it looks like an angry rant (Postecogliu) or inane gushing (Holloway) we all laugh. Nobody wants to be laughed at, so we revert to the training. It takes years to become fully-qualified so it's driven into you.
Politicians are the same and to a degree, journalists, which is why similar questions are always asked.

Re: Will Still sacked
Just my personal opinion, but I think Still might need to work as an assistant manager in the Premier League before he steps up to a big job over here. There's a lot about English football that he "still" needs to learn ('scuse the pun)
The fact is, English football is fiercely competitive - and a grind - especially in the Championship (46 high-tempo games that come thick and fast, with little time for training). And it's another level altogether in the Premier League. He just hasn't faced that intensity or level in France or Belgium.
He'd do well to call Nuno and spend a few years as our #2.

Re: Will Still sacked
Messaged couple of blokes last night who I know who support Soton. Just to get the lowdown. They both kind of said Still had good ideas and tried but there was a disconnect between him and the players. One of them also said they players have been a joke and in some ways have played Still out of the club. Apparently its very toxic down there at the moment as alot of the fans wanted Still to remain. Relationship between players and Soton fans is not good.
Re: Will Still sacked
If winning in the Championship is the only metric we are going on. Then Fat Cunty Chops would be a shoe in here. Can’t see that happening.? As for Still. He be fine. Southampton was never coming straight back.

Re: Will Still sacked
Doesn't necessarily mean he's a shit manager.
Maybe just the wrong club at the wrong time.
Southampton have been a complete shambles
