What a difference a game made. Last week, despair and not knowing where the next scrappily won point would come from.  Fast forward 5 days, and there is expectation that we see off Burnley like the upstarts they are, that Nuno has found the 'formula' and it's onwards and upwards from here.

Of course, these things are rarely ever black or white, and somewhere in the middle is more likely, but with the emergence of Potts from his bench-shackles, a reinvigorated and impactful Paqueta supported by colleagues that could operate on his wave length, and the energy of Fernandes, there were at least glowing embers in the previously distinguished firepit.

The Burnley game will also see pre-match protestation, with the (as of now) 16,000 signature petition delivered to the Club in printed form at the end of a 'Stratford to the Stadium' protest march, which should hopefully see also a positive mood and energy spill over into support.

Team wise, Nuno has hinted at some knocks from the previous game...but training videos looked to show all the main protagonists in attendance except Wilson.

Predicted line-up.

Hard to see anything but enforced deviation from the team that beat Newcastle.  Wilson maybe a lingering doubt.  Kante, Golambeckis and Myers continue to train with the first team, so it will be interesting to see if someone like Kante with his presence and stature can show enough raw ability to push past others to a place on the bench in the coming weeks.
Areola

Wan Bissaka  Kilman  Todibo  Diouf

Potts  Fernandes

Bowen (C)    Paqueta   Summerville

Wilson (Soucek)

Subs:  Hermansen, Igor, Myers, KWP, Irving, Soucek, Guido, Guilherme, Magassa.
Predicted Score:

Things at West Ham rarely run smoothly.  It wouldn't surprise me to see Burnley get the first gut-punch of a goal, and for us to then have to scrap tooth and nail to get something from the game. They have a good solid midfield, and have been clinical in attack thus far.  In what feels like a must not lose game, I could see a draw as an outcome, but hopefully buoyed by the Newcastle result, we find a way to prevail.

West Ham 2 - 1 Burnley.
(Bowen, Summerville)

Rumours that we have Marshall as our only fully fit striker tomorrow aren't filling me with confidence.

If that's true, then it's fucking mental to expect him to start for the U21s tonight! 🤪

Think we'll just about edge this but it'll be nervy. Can't see us keeping a clean sheet but reckon we'll do enough to nick it 2-1.

Got a feeling this will be a 1-1 which is no help to us given the fixtures we have after the international break. If we win I'll be pretty confident we'll stay up. Any other result and it looks like we could be adrift at Christmas, then we'd have to buy our way out of trouble.

Just like we failed miserably at both the Brentford and Leeds games, this is another one we cannot afford to lose. I think it will be a draw and that wouldn't be a disaster.

Ideally we need to win it though when you factor in the tough fixtures running up to Christmas starting with Bournemouth away after this game.

This is the thing that irks me.

We were so quick to aim him out, despite him having 2 great seasons at Charlton on loan. He has gone on to play EL football with Belgian’s biggest club, become a regular international, and become a bona fide PL quality player.

Yet we persist with the likes of Potts, who simply will not be good enough.

Think you’re right Branded. Expectations are high after a surprise win last week. Burnley will be a totally different challenge and the players need to have the right mindset and like last weekend win their individual duels and play well out of possession again.

Not having a recognised target man is still a big handicap.  We need the team to work as hard if not harder than last week. Also, I was wondering if part of Todibo’s improvement is down to him having a run of 3 or 4 games for the first time? It takes a few games nowadays for many players to really get up to the speed and match the physical requirements of the PL.

We need another top performance from the PFP midfield again but the spine is key and Areola, Todibo/Kilman and whoever leads the line need to be effective too.

Lets hope last week was not like our win at Newcastle last season which turned out to be yet another false dawn

With a similar line up and level of performance / commitment from the players you would like to think we have a good chance of 3 points but so many times, in fact usually, West Ham raise you’re hopes only to then screw things up. So, while the head says we can get a win, the fear is always there.  Things still have to go our way with ref decisions, VAR, deflections, fouls, free iicks etc.   The level of performance is what really matters and maintaining it even if the worst happens because that will ultimately garner more points even against stronger sides.

Burnley are no mugs even if they are one of the weaker teams in the division.  We have to take any chances we make and as always compete well in central midfield to win. Strangely, a fit Callum Wilson is key. He is not a target man but has the “black arts” to cause problems for 45 - 60 mins. He gave us an outball and made space for other attacking players lije Summerville, Fernandes and Paqueta. Soucek also came on and was able disrupt with his awkward, unconventional leading of the line as he simply gets a head on things or can challenge aerially even if he does not get a head on it.

Paqueta, Potts and Fernandes playing well is key. If they do and can control the middle you would think we have a good chance.

But it took him the playing time in the championship and the Belgian league to get to the level he is currently at. He just wasn't realistically going to break into the starting 11 on a regular enough basis to get the experience needed

Would he be the same player he is now if he had continued playing U21 football and the occasional cup game for us? i would suggest highly unlikely

Bit mad leaving Potts out. Is the theory that you want a less defensive midfield and Magassa carries the ball more or something?
Yep, that's exactly it mate.

Potts is a very limited defensive-minded footballer. I feel Magassa would be better suited to this one.

Same team as last week. Similar performance and we should have too much for them.

Paqueta and Todibo need to follow on from last week with another pair of great performances.

Oh, and home win. You'd fucking hope so after last week's good potentially corner turning performance. To salvage six points from these four games isn't awful particularly after Nuno's absolute brain fart in the first two of those. A loss would put us right back to square one.

Start with the same team as last match. Fullkrug on the bench if he is indeed fit.

On another note, I’ve seen Igor in training a few times, looks like a man possessed! Is he really that bad?
The idiot's whole 'schtick' with this is making out Potts is shit. It's been going on for about two years. Embarrassing cry for attention. Not even worth reacting to.
Add to the fact it's not even what he actually thinks anyway.

The team is bound to be very similar to last week's - can only imagine that injuries might enforce a change or two.

Burnley have played five , losing four, away from home in the league.

They've conceded a minimum of two in every game, but only drew a blank on the opening day at Spurs.

Their solitary win was in a game against Wolves with a late, late, late goal to seal a 3-2 win.

Both sides to score looks a reasonable punt at the bookies.

Josh Cullen has made a decent career for himself up there.

Same starting line-up as last week.
I expect it to be a tougher game, Burnley won't come on to us the way Newcastle did and we'll need to find the gaps and break them down.
Providing everyone does their job we should win, 1-0, maybe 2-0.
