What a difference a game made. Last week, despair and not knowing where the next scrappily won point would come from.  Fast forward 5 days, and there is expectation that we see off Burnley like the upstarts they are, that Nuno has found the 'formula' and it's onwards and upwards from here.

Of course, these things are rarely ever black or white, and somewhere in the middle is more likely, but with the emergence of Potts from his bench-shackles, a reinvigorated and impactful Paqueta supported by colleagues that could operate on his wave length, and the energy of Fernandes, there were at least glowing embers in the previously distinguished firepit.

The Burnley game will also see pre-match protestation, with the (as of now) 16,000 signature petition delivered to the Club in printed form at the end of a 'Stratford to the Stadium' protest march, which should hopefully see also a positive mood and energy spill over into support.

Team wise, Nuno has hinted at some knocks from the previous game...but training videos looked to show all the main protagonists in attendance except Wilson.

Predicted line-up.

Hard to see anything but enforced deviation from the team that beat Newcastle.  Wilson maybe a lingering doubt.  Kante, Golambeckis and Myers continue to train with the first team, so it will be interesting to see if someone like Kante with his presence and stature can show enough raw ability to push past others to a place on the bench in the coming weeks.
Areola

Wan Bissaka  Kilman  Todibo  Diouf

Potts  Fernandes

Bowen (C)    Paqueta   Summerville

Wilson (Soucek)

Subs:  Hermansen, Igor, Myers, KWP, Irving, Soucek, Guido, Guilherme, Magassa.
Predicted Score:

Things at West Ham rarely run smoothly.  It wouldn't surprise me to see Burnley get the first gut-punch of a goal, and for us to then have to scrap tooth and nail to get something from the game. They have a good solid midfield, and have been clinical in attack thus far.  In what feels like a must not lose game, I could see a draw as an outcome, but hopefully buoyed by the Newcastle result, we find a way to prevail.

West Ham 2 - 1 Burnley.
(Bowen, Summerville)

Come On You Irons" wrote: 09 Nov 2025, 13:30 I agree regarding Fernandes. I called from the start that he would be a great signing.

Of course idiots like Lee Trundle have claimed that he is overrated and we paid over the odds for him. Hilarious idiocy 😂
Did you?
You didn't appear to be so sure on August 28th fella🤔
I agree that it is a very high risk strategy. In fact, it is arguably insanity to drop £20 million on a keeper who's team has just been humiliatingly relegated and £40 million on a midfielder from a team that just finished rocked bottom and had the second worse Premier League season in history.

Only at West tHam eh!

Stating that one has reservations over the outlay of £40 million on Fernandes was justified. However I soon called it that Fernandes looks a class player after his first couple of games for us.

Meanwhile idiots like Lee Trundle were claiming he is overrated and we paid too much, proving he knows the square root of fuck all about football.
That's a shambles of a reply.

Yup, I was debating whether he'd catch Di Canio or Noble. Depends if he can stick around for another couple of seasons and get some minutes. Of course he'll be nowhere near the goals to games ratio for Di Canio, Bowen or Antonio, but very very respectable especially for a non striker.
Yes. Even more so when he doesn't rely on Penalties to score his goals unlike the rest who have had the opportunity. We're not even talking about a poor level of competition either, he's produced it regularly in the Premier League amongst many other duties he's had to undertake for the Team.
Absolutely- take away penalties and he's looking very good.

Midfield were superb again, Fernandes was outstanding as was Potts again until he had to go off. Summerville was bright and a threat. The back 4 look far more solid last two games and we create so much more going forward.  A striker is needed in Jan but if we can nick some points until then to stay in touch then hopefully our home form can keep us up second half of season.  We have a tough run now until Jan, its hard to see where the next win is coming from in the next 6.
Any mentions for Magassa and Soucek?

Both of whom changed the game when introduced.
Both did well, they aren't getting close to the starting 11 though the way things are looking

You on board with Fernandes now as I know you doubted his signing and I did say you might be surprised?
He keeps playing like the last two games then yes of course.  He has looked a different player to the one a few months ago

Soucek is very useful just for putting himself about tirelessly and wearing down already tired central defenders. He's not going to get the ball in tight situations or have to do anything particularly creative other than lay it off or take a shot. It's a good role for him. He's a presence and he's strong. He was noticeably more of a handful for the defenders than Wilson. More of a bludgeon than any sort of rapier, but he's just a very useful player. That said we should not be relying on him as a substitute striker and it's a disgrace that we are, but fair play to the man, he will do whatever he can to the best of his ability to help the team, and 35 in 189 Premier League games is absolutely nothing to be sniffed at for West Ham as a midfielder and non penalty taker. Likely to end up top 5 in the premier league by the time he's done here.

Good to see we now have options in midfield with a slightly left field option up front even if he has regularly been one of our top goal scorers.

I thought we improved tenfold when he came on.

Has to be Magassa and Fernandes in the middle from now on, with Paq further forward.

Soucek on the bench as an impact sub.
Give the Potts stuff a rest now. It's just beyond stale and boring.
