“Unfortunate” – West Ham summer signing ‘annoyed’ with coach’s Hammers exit

West Ham United goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is ‘annoyed’ with Casper Ankergren’s exit from the London club.

That’s according to Denmark’s Campo, who also relay comments made by the 25-year-old on Ankergren’s short spell at West Ham.

West Ham appointed Ankergren as their new goalkeeping coach in July and he was part of Graham Potter’s backroom staff.

The Hammers parted ways with Potter in September after one win in five league games, and appointed Nuno Espírito Santo as his successor. Ankergren also left West Ham along with Potter.

Hermansen knew the goalkeeping coach well as he previously trained under him at Brøndby IF. The Denmark international was hoping to work with his compatriot at the Premier League side over the longer term,

“I worked with him at Brøndby at the time. So, of course we had a relationship beforehand. We have always agreed a lot about the goalkeeping game and how we train and play matches,” he said.

“So, it was clear that I was looking forward to working with him for a longer period and continuing to improve my skills at it.

“But unfortunately, things went the way they did. Now we have of course got a new coaching team, which I also think is really talented. I’m also happy to work with them.”
Wasn’t a factor in West Ham arrival

The stopper joined West Ham a month after Ankergren’s arrival. He says this didn’t influence his decision to join the Hammers.

“I heard about West Ham’s interest, even before Casper was hired. But how much he had a hand in that game, I don’t know,” Hermansen explained.

“It’s clear that a goalkeeping coach is always important for a goalkeeper. I knew he was skilled. I knew that we share the way we see being a goalkeeper. So that was just a plus in my book.”

Hermansen conceded 11 goals from four matches. He lost his place in Alphonse Areola in September and has been on the bench since then.

Nuno Espírito Santo has overlooked the Dane since he joined the Premier League side. Viaplay journalist Peter Kjaer recently conveyed his annoyance over the stopper’s situation at West Ham.

West Ham interested in signing Everton’s James Garner

Image

West Ham United are eyeing Everton midfielder James Garner (h/t West Ham Way).

Garner has caught the eye of West Ham with his ability to operate in midfield and at left-back for David Moyes’ side.

The 24-year-old West Ham target has been a mainstay in the Everton starting XI, bagging a goal and an assist in 11 league appearances.

Garner is a complete all-round midfielder who can provide the control the Hammers desperately need in the centre of the park. Moyes is a massive fan of Garner.

“He’s been fantastic since I came in,” said Moyes (via Everton’s official website). “I didn’t realise, probably, how good he was. He has been so good.”

Garner would be a stellar pick-up for West Ham, but it is unclear if the Toffees will let him go.

Even if they are willing, Everton’s transfer demands could put the Hammers off.

However, it is worth noting that Everton are interested in West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse, who is surplus to requirements at Rush Green.

Ward-Prowse has failed to convince West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The Portuguese tactician has sidelined him from the starting XI.

A January departure could be on the cards, and West Ham could use Ward-Prowse to sweeten a deal for Garner.

The Hammers are scouting several players, including Charlie Cresswell, Adama Traore and Franculino Dju.

Club Brugge duo Joel Ordonez and Romeo Vermant, alongside Lucas Stassin, are also on West Ham’s transfer radar.
