It was just a joke. Don't worry. I'm referring to when he grabbed Carragher's leg live on air when he heard Brendan Rodgers got the tin tack from Liverpool.
Careful El -Sid ...youre asking for a new front  door😁

In a good way rather than a bad way I hope. No leg touching a la Carragher...

I tuned in for the last 10 minutes. Quite rarely probably the right winner given what he achieved this year. Littler is the only other one I could argue really could/should have- absolutely dominated his sport. (whether you consider darts a sport  or not, they do.)

Remind me never to put a bet on any of your predictions, though if by "up and coming" you mean young sports personality of the year, I guess you got one out of four.

Personaly, I thought the stars of the show were the two Southport dads getting the Helen Rollason award. Absolutely dreadful what happened to their little daughters and to channel all that trauma and anger into doing something so positive. All those cunts who used their kids death as an excuse to loot Greggs, chuck bricks at police and try and burn down hotels should be ashamed of themselves.

I was close, I had rugby girl Ellie Kildunne to win it, she came second.

Congrats to Rory though.

Something popped up on my social media last night about 7.30 so I went and voted for Rory McIllroy as he had been successful in a top level sport during 2025
Wonens football & rugby aren’t the peak of those sports, darts is a pub game & F1 is driving a car round in circles

But the winner should be Ellie Kildunne and the team should be the England Rugby team. They are far superior than anyone else and play at a skill set similar to the men... unlike the women's football team.

Rory's achievement would be better if he was actually more dominant in the majors, rather than just the odd flash of brilliance.
Yup, the rugby team will be fully overshadowed by the football team, just because of public awareness despite the fact I like you think they are more deserving. Just like last year objectively Alex Yee achieved more than Keely Hodgkinson but she was the headline maker so the awareness was greater.

I wonder what demographic actually votes for it as well and how that affects it. How the BBC present each person is quite significant.
Actually I just looked up the judging panel for last year: (Although I don't know if they just select the finalists or have a say in who wins)

'The judging panel included athletes Laura KennyIwan ThomasAde AdepitanNedum Onuoha and Rory Best, broadcaster Eilidh BarbourThe Athletic's Laura Williamson, PA Media's Eleanor Crooks and CEO of Women in SportStephanie Hilborne. From the BBC were Director of Sport, Alex Kay-Jelski, Head of Sport Content, Philip Bernie, and Executive Producer of the Awards, Gabby Cook.'

Not sure if you can exactly rely on the CEO of Women In Sport to be fully objective when it comes to deciding between a male or female competitor....

Definitely! It’s just a comedy ongoing joke as well. Steve Davis back in the 80s too.

zico wrote: 11 Dec 2025, 18:20 Got to be honest not a F1 fan at all so when I saw the thread about Lando Norris I thought it was a character out of Star Wars!  If one of the ladies win it will be 5 women winners in a row.  If it's one of the footballers that will make three women footballers to have won it in four years.  Prior to that the only footballers to win it since 1954 were Bobby Moore, Gazza, Owen, Beckham and Giggs.  What is it now anyway, Personality or most succesful?  Haven't watched it really since the days of Des Lynam pulling someone out of the crowd for a bit of fun or Red Rum pricking his ears up after hearing Tommy Stack on video, but to be fair I'd go with Rory but doubt he will win.  If Littler gets it that would wind Phil Taylor right up!
I always thought 'personality' was a bit of a misnomer as it's really just 'sportsperson' of the year.
But to your point I think representation is just as big a part of it now as who has been the most prominent or successful.
