Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
Billy or Bilic favourites Pardew best for getting us within minutes of lifting the cup. I can't have Moyes at the moment and cant have Harry under any circumstances. None of the our managers have been poached by other clubs I note.

Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
Our European run will depend on how seriously Liverpool end up taking the cup. The last time we was in it Moyes didn’t have any clubs for him to cower to…..
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"Which other manager has been able to build a team based on years of spending not only more than most PL teams, but most of the world? I'll tell ya, none of 'em! Not even close. It amazes me how so many people just ignore this fact, as if it was a level playing field and Moyes had the same resources as Bilic or Pardew or any of our other managers."

"We didn’t just win a European trophy, we also reached a semi final and this year are in, the last 16. Which other manager took us into Europe 3 years in a row? As for relegation, just look where we were in the league, both times that he took over. The tables don’t lie."
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"I appreciate the odd thing that moyes has done, but the saving us from relegation stuff is bollocks. Our form hardly improved and there were some absolutely atrocious teams around which was more of a factor. Yeah the cup win was fun, but we all know the opposition in the entire competition was barely championship standard and let's not forget his refusal to ever think there is a better striker than antonio in the world almost got us relegated last season. By that logic juande ramos is spurs most successful manager since 1990 when most spurs fans probably think he's a cսnt. Personally probably had the most fun at games away from home with Redknapp. Had a great team for a couple of seasons and played some quality football."

"Well, apart from very short term managers, we’ve only had one decent manager. He’s the one who saved us from relegation twice, got us into Europe three years running, won a European trophy, reached a semi final and is also in the last 16 this year. I can’t think of any other manager, who has done that."
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
Looking back I had utmost faith in Ron Greenwood who was a real gentlemen to my way of thinking. He stepped aside for Lyall but I had moved away from London then so didn't rate Lyall as well as most seem to. Harry got me back into season ticket mode and I thought the sun shone out of his arse. He could do no wrong and I would like to have seen him with the kind of backing Moyes has enjoyed. Or even the England job where I reckon he would have been absolutely perfect at that time. I think it was a backhander era back then so didn't care a lot of the rumours. Harry was probably underpaid anyway. But his popularity survived as he went through many clubs but his real home was always at Upton Park but for stupid owners...

Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"We haven‚Äôt exactly been spoilt have we? Running through them: Macari - wasn‚Äôt here long enough. Made some good signings but we were mid-table of Division 2 when he resigned. Bonds - great, honest bloke. Club legend. Did okay in difficult circumstances. Redknapp- if you ignore the backstabbing, the backhanders, the dodgy signings, the yids, he gave us the most enjoyable football for the longest period. Roeder - out of his depth. Pardew - one great season, the rest mostly dross. Curbishley - had more money to spend than any other manager, relative to our competitors, and wasted it on over the hill expensive shite. Played boring football. Left when the club was in financial trouble and sued us. cսnt. Zola - out of his depth. Like Roeder, should never have been given the job. Grant - fraud. Allardyce - antithesis of West Ham. Had no interest in playing entertaining football, or finishing higher than mid-table. Was effective though, and a good man manager. Bilic - superb for one season. Terrible the rest. Was it all down to Payet? Pellegrini - tried to play good football, wasted a lot of money on average players, decided that Roberto was a goalkeeper. Moyes - be honest, it was actually very good for a couple of seasons. The last two years though, our league form has been terrible and the football shocking to witness. Did win us a trophy though so I‚Äôll be grateful for that. But his time should be up now. Last season, he was lucky to still be in a job after we found ourselves in a worse position than he took over from Pellegrini. So, from that lot, Redknapp is the standout."

Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
Harry by a long way. Didn't we have something like only seven managers in our history prior to Harry? After he went we became just like all other clubs with the manager merry-go-round.
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"With all those managers it seems we were always a couple of players away from a really good side or suffered bad luck like losing McAvennie, Dicksy, Ashton or even Kieron Dyer with a bad injury. Still reckon if Julian had been a couple of years older and we got him earlier we would have won the League in 85/86."
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"Harry always got a decent reception when he returned with Portsmouth, it was only when he went to Spurs that everyone turned on him. Putting aside that and the fallout with Bonds, we had some entertaining football when he was in charge."
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
Harry for me too. He epitomised what WH was about as far as I’m concerned.
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"Harry by a country mile. Di Canio J. Cole, Kitson, Hartson, Sinclair, Berkovic, Kanoute, Wanchope and Abooooo. Some of the finest attackers on the planet!"
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"Favourite personality - Slav by a mile Greatest times - Pardew - three trips to Cardiff Best football to watch - Bits of Zola's first season were great, but probably overall Redknapp Best in Transfer market - this is the toughest, I'd probably go pards as I dont recall any real howlers - and Marlon, NRC, Benayoun, Gabidoon and Collins, Ashton and Green were all great signings for us."

Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"Redknapp, by a mile. Yeah he signed some duds, fuck me he was working on a proper shoestring budget, but for every dud there was a top notch signing. Taking us to 5th, with the money he had to spend, was exceptional, and doesn't get the credit it deserves. We had some shocking games, but we also played some breathtaking football at times. Proper West Ham. If only he was given the squad and money to spend that Order had. We'd be a very different football club now."

Harry was great entertainment... although we had some proper wallopings but it was great fun. Pards was one of my fav times following us up and down the country... 3 finals in 3 years and all the adventures getting there was great fun times.

"In terms of entertainment - squads that included Moncur, Bishop, Di Canio, Kanoute, Sinclair, Cole, Carrick, Cottee, Hugo Porfirio , Dani, Rio and of course Julian - To name a few will always, always hold a place in my heart. Rose tinted glasses and sentiment aside, they were as entertaining at times as you're going to get. Seeing Di Canio sit various top class defenders down on their arses not once or twice, but three or four times a game are treasured memories. Bishop & Moncur's range of passing - Kanoute jumping, controlling the ball on his chest and turning all in one movement, the randomness of Porfirio / Dani showing up for brief cameos - Youngsters like Rio, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick coming into the team. For me (and I really dont like Bagpuss) - you have to give it to Harry for some truly memorable times. I didn't have the privilege to see Greenwood and only caught the end of John Lyall - History dictates those two gentlemen take the starring role - but I genuinely have never enjoyed watching West Ham as much as I did under Harry Redknapp. There have been seasons - the last season at UP under Bilic - The Europa League/Conference runs under Moyes - The playoff victories under Pards/Allardyce that are all indelibly imprinted in my memory - but for pure, care free entertainement - Has to be Harry"

Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
Manuel Re Harry A couple of things The universally respected Bonzo when asked about his former friend described him as a spiv. The Rio money and how he spunked it on an array of crocks (Rob Jones) Alcoholics (Gary Charles) plus a whole host of mercenary s (Song Canara etc) a suspicious number of these deals and others involved his old mate Graham Souness. I know he loved a punt and some paid off (Di Canio etc) but it was the way he spunked the dough from Rio that done it for me. Every deal had to be the right deal for Harry first and the club second. My saints pals who live on the south coast have also told me some very interesting stores regarding the man which i have no reason to doubt either.

Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
If you don't win something what is it that gives you the most joy? I've enjoyed the European campaigns a lot. They're like playing in the championship. You get to win most games so long as your manager wants to win them. Outside that I think you remember the great players and their contribution to the games you remember. We've had a few and we can all list out favourites. In the Autumn last year we suddenly had this clicking of our best players and even though it was in a Moyes system it was fucking great. Those players were lost to the team and the rest weren't up to the standard set by them. So there have been a number of managers who have had great players even if we haven't crossed the line on a cup. I guess Di Canio and Payet may be my favourites but for a moment Kudus and Paqueta were getting there.
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"If it hadn't been for Gerrard you could argue Pardew was just as successful as Moyes as the FA Cup would be more an achievement than the Europa Conference. All about circumstance as well. Bar maybe the out of control splurge of the Icelandic's Moyes has probably had more money to spend than most other West Ham managers, and that's saying something considering we still think Sullivan is a penny pincher. I think Billy gets overlooked even though he wasn't probably cut out to be a manager. You need to be 24 hours on the job and that wasn't really Billy. He had that Bond Scheme season to cope with though so that can't have been easy."
Re: Your favourite and best West Ham manager since John Lyall
"Up until several years ago there were five things of note available to win each season. The EPL championship being the biggest followed by the two domestic and two European trophies. To fairly compare Moyes with previous managers, seeing as his predecessors did not have a sixth trophy to play for, we need to measure his achievements minus last season’s European win. Moyes is still up there in comparison and holds EPL performance records but there are so many nuances to the stats that it’s difficult to conclude who has been our best manager over time. I would opt for Lyall/Greenwood as my favourites and best."
