Does anyone know a cheap way to send a few bob to Australia?
I'll freely admit that I am shit at this sort of thing and can barely count but know some of you really know your stuff and I would appreciate your help. I have a trust fund set up in my name managed (nominally) by two pals who sign the cheques. It's been a proper pain in the arse but it stops the DWP stealing it from a compensation payout. I've not used it yet but want to get £5000 (or $10000AU) into my grandkids' mum's bank account. Do any of you know how I would do this without getting my trousers pulled down? I've tried wiping my knob across the screen but strangely it doesn't seem to have worked. Thanks in advance.

Re: Does anyone know a cheap way to send a few bob to Australia?
"If I'm not too late to the Lord Mayor's show, I've used XE.com over the years to transfer money from the UK to The Philipines, Malaysia, Oman, the Netherlands & Thailand. They've recently introduced a 2 pound charge for smaller amounts, but for bigger sums it's free. Normally it is transferred within 10 minutes but they do warn that Mike, you can never be late for the party and I appreciate your advice. My problem is that I am a dunce that has to get MY money out of an account that has nothing to do with me in law without incurring penalties. It's a fucking nightmare and is going to cost £150 an hour to sort the shit out. I swear that almost every professional advisor and 'independent expert' has probably rinsed me of more than my settlement than me.. Magpies one and all. Again, I really appreciate all the advice you've all given me, so thank you all x it can take up to 4 days to reach the selected account; this seems to be either/or they or the receiving bank hang on to the money to take advantage of current/anticipated exchange rate fluctuations or simply regard it as a short-term interest free loan to support their cash-flow. Also, make sure there's no national/Bank holiday on any of the 4 days following your planned transfer; nailed on then that the transfer will be delayed."

Put the cash in an envelope and send it via post. What could possibly go wrong?

"I get a pension cheque sent to me every month from America, I've asked a few times if they could do a bank transfer and they either can't or won't do it. Still it usually only takes a few weeks to clear."

"Westside 6:30 Fri Feb 16 That's interesting. I initiated a transfer yesterday using my debit card and they quite happily took the money from my UK account. Must admit that it's not yet appeared on the recipient account, but I'm putting that down to the recent volatility of exchange rates. They did clearly say that it could take up to 4 days. Earliest it's likely to appear now is Monday, after which eyebrows may be raised if it doesn't then turn up.."

"Mike Oxsaw 9:00 Fri Feb 16. I'd used XE previously to send money to Australia, but when I tried a couple of weeks ago, you now have to send the money to XE, by bank transfer, rather than using debit/credit card. I prefer using a credit card, due to the protections you get, that you don't with a bank transfer."

Re: Does anyone know a cheap way to send a few bob to Australia?
Thanks again chaps. It's a bit complicated because of the trust fund but I should be able to negotiate my way through it. If any of you need any advice about making sure the DWP doesn't just steal your compensation money after you've had a pretty horrible accident I'm at least clued-up on what to do about it so just ask.

"Yeah, another vote for Wise, Chim. Failing that, send me the dosh and I'll drop it off to him next rime I'm over there. Honest. The rate at the moment is pretty good, too. Just about 2 Aus dollars to the pound, Not quite as good as the halcyon days of nearly 3 dollars 20 odd years ago, but good enough."

"Agree 100% with the recommendation of Wise. They are fantastic, fast efficient and give you rates that others can't match"

"There's a free Nigerian App for this, it goes the long way around granted, via Lagos (think square mile of Africa), but once you sign up things really start to happen and the funds will vanish from your account quicker than you can say witch doctor, uncanny, as if some kind of black magic. Dr Dodoo or something."

I’ve also used Wise - Wise (former Transferwise) though maybe would send a sum like that in two or three pops.

"Thanks chaps, plenty of options there I knew you'd come good. Much obliged x"
Re: Does anyone know a cheap way to send a few bob to Australia?
Look up Wise chim. Once you set up an account you can transfer money anywhere at minimal cost in the quickest time ever. They are a money exchange giant and immensely easy to use once you’ve set up but that takes time…

"When I last needed to send money abroad about 8 years ago, these guys were the best option: https://wise.com/gb/send-money/ They were called Transferwise back then. No idea if it's still a good option. Maybe worth checking out."

"Might be worth using a Revolut account for this, chim. https://www.revolut.com/money-transfer/"
