I think going down has been on the cards for a while. Not surprised if we bring nobody in today. Club will no doubt consider good offers for anyone. Its not defeatist to see the state of our team form and the league table.

Sullivan is doing the absolute bare minimum to rectify this. It's like he's told Nuno he can have one plaster and he has to choose which of the five gaping injuries to put it on. Everyone else is making moves. Palace, Forest, even Wolves. Gomes going there shoots down Sullivan's bollocks that it's impossible to get decent players in January. It can be done. He just doesn't WANT to do what's necessary to keep the club up. He could do if he committed. As usual for him it's a half measure and a gamble. Even this transfer window there was the move for the strikers right away and then.... nothing. Nothing until the very last couple of days. Once again hedging his bets. It's always all so fucking reactive and last minute and no way to build anything other than maybe short term success.
The excuses and blame will come out. 'Nuno didn't want (insert pound shop sub par quality player courtesy of a friendly agent here)' so therefore he's the villain. 'We tried', 'It's impossible.' when it's been proven it's not. It's also been proven he doesn't need the manager to agree to a transfer before going rogue anyway.
It's all his fault. Every bit. The players, the managers, the results, the mess. And he's going to take zero accountability for it. I hope Nuno says 'Fuck your compo and NDA' and just gives it to him with both barrels when he's inevitably sacked and replaced with a worse and cheaper manager.
The squad lacks so much genuine quality that it makes some of the players already here look much worse than they actually are because there are so few that they can rely on to raise their level.
I've said before Mavro ain't such a bad player but he needs somebody sweeping up behind him allowing him to concentrate on forward facing defending which is his obvious strength. When he is isolated and the last man tracking back that ain't his fault. We needed somebody who can compensate for that.
It goes back to our completely disjointed recruitment policy...they just sign players without giving the first thought as to how they will all compliment and bring the best out of each other.
It shouldn't be hard but due to our ownership it always is.

In other news Kalvin Phillips has found his level- probably- going to Sheffield United on loan. Another fucking appalling signing for us. In January by the way, when it's impossible to get players in apparently.

Still think we need midfield reinforcements. Paqueta, Guido, Irvine, JWP all gone ( yeah I realuse tyey hardly played ) and Nuno now seems reluctant to uee Potts and Magassa? Our issues in the last 30 mins of games are not just the back line which is all he changes. We need players he will use to freshen up midfield. This is obvious isnt it?

I think I would too- just to get his wages and contract off the books. Long run it's worth it just to write him off as a disaster and not throw good money after bad. I even doubt him being good enough to be in the top percentile of defenders in the Championship and not a liability there too, at least for us, TBH.

As it is I think he is the best we can hope for, which is what I implied. It shouldn't be hard
Well exactly, but as I said, it was a different point being made. It feels like he is the best we can hope for, and I do think he'll at least be as good if not better than Mav. Put it this way, I'd 100% rather have Mav or Disasi coming on than Kilman so it's going to be a net gain at worst and at best a pleasant upgrade on Mav. I do think though similar to striker and midfield when the two in January and Fernandes arrived in the summer, his arrival will make us realise just how limited/bad Mav and Kilman actually are.

Normally I'd agree with you. People make too much of that match fitness stuff. Lingard was at it from the off and he'd barely played all season. It doesn't usually matter unless the player's been out injured.
That said though, Disasi hadn't been training with the first team at all for the whole season until a week or two back, and Rosenior himself said that "he’s behind in terms of his fitness", so he might well not be ready right away, which given Todibo's upcoming ban is not ideal.

Rid us of the albatross but still leave us way short at the back and risk an inexplicable upturn of form from the player as he helps Palace pull away from danger possibly at our expense, or be stuck with him on crippling wages potentially for the next five years?
On the other hand of course he could continue his shocking form and give Palace even more problems.
Palace's defence is more than competent. It's upfront they have problems, only 3 teams have scored fewer than them in the Premier League.

The chances to shift the guy will be few and far between and his form is so horrid and we're so in need of guys in form, Is get rid and then see what we could get in as 4th choice.
I'm inclined to agree, frankly. The only real gamble is if there's a crazy turnaround in his form as soon as he leaves which sees Palace edge us out for 17th place, but it seems unlikely that would happen. Todibo, Mav, Disasi and virtually anyone with a pair of legs is better than Todibo, Mav,Kilman as a CB compliment.

I think this transfer would belong in the "beggars can't be choosers" file
Of course it is. Just like virtually every transfer we have made in the last 12 months and every single one in this window, thanks to Sullivan's incompetence.
But that's a completely separate point to 'Will he actually turn out to be decent or at least better than expected?' which is the point eusebiovic was actually making.

I think so too. I think he and Todibo will end up being the partnership when the latter is back from suspension and youd hope as fellow Frenchmen they might be able to strike up a rapport and decent partnership. He will be serviceable and a little wake up call as to actually how bad our defenders aside from Todibo are. Better than Kilman unquestionably. Plus a player with hopefully a point to prove.

Re: Winter '25/26 Transfer Rumours Thread
Manuel it does seem to take some players a run of games to get fully match fit and acclimatised to their new team ( esp one that concedes bucket loads of goals). Training etc a player wont put in that gut busting effort that a proper competitive match does. But lets hope this geezer is one of thowe super athletes, naturally fit and hits the ground running. Is he as quick as Todibo?

Re: Winter '25/26 Transfer Rumours Thread
Given the way we collapsed when Pablo was knackered do we need another forward to run around a bit?
I feel like we should always be playing 2 up top. We just can’t see out games very well without a constant press at the front.
Will they try to get someone else in?
