"riosleftsock 1:49 Sun Feb 18 """"Russia is corrupt to a certain level. "" Russia is corrupt to it's core. The whole political structure is run by people who are rich beyond the dreams of avarice. When the Soviet Union collapsed all the assets of the state were flogged off to the political elites, and their mates, who have been running the country via Putin since. Russia is a giant autocratic kleptocracy where the poor are considered as nothing, and are now being sent off to fight a war for a Hitleresque lunatic.."

Journalist exposing government corruption which is in the public interest deserves life in prison??? You really just said that. You’d probably get on well with Putin Same sort of attitude

"Not really hypocrisy if you know the meaning of the word. Assange stole and published vast amounts of confidential military material, fully aware that he was putting thousands of lives at risk. He is facing life in prison and rightly so."

Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
"Rio, Well you're way ahead of most of your fellow Putin supporters which is encouraging! There's hope for you yet. Ps headwands don't need plugging in you silly tart, it's a fucking stick In other news people here saying lack of public support for anything in Russia is somehow meaningful is a moron, self preservation tends to trump ideals. It's a bit like saying the lack of demonstrations after tianaman square meant the Chinese government were universally loved"
Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
"Surely if Navalny had such little support within the Dictatorship it would have been easy, and the best thing, for the authorities to ignore him. However Navalny’s treatment clearly indicate that Putin saw him as a threat."

Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
"Today's news is over 400 detained in protests in over 30 cities in Russia. Can any of you even begin to imagine what it takes, in these dark days, to be a normal, decent human being let alone go out and demonstrate opposition to the Kremlin in Russia? The only excuse for talking about Navalny not being very popular is quite simply a lack of imagination caused by what I can but suggest is a real inner deadness of the kind displayed by a concentration camp guard or Gestapo officer."

Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
"3 to 7% of 143m is a lot of people to pull support for a protest. Not so much in an election. Again. I don't know how many actually supported him politically, but there wasn't huge protests about his imprisonment. Unless Putin wants the US to fund the Ukraine war for his own riches as sanctions have benefitted him, I'm at a loss as why he'd kill someone he already put in prison?"

Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
Navalny had little support in Russia. Well those images from russia yesterday of the authorities steaming into anyone that dared to light a candle I dont imagine too many people over there would dare support Navalny. Off to the gulag you go....

"riosleftsock 1:49 Sun Feb 18 According to polling, Navalny had little support in Russia. Although obviuosly polling can be easily manipulated, it's way below what you'd expect if he was deemed a true threat to Putin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_2018_Russian_presidential_election"

Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
"Jaan, Russia is corrupt to a certain level. The corruption exists from the lowest circles of bureaucracy up to a certain level. In Ukraine its prevalent throughout all of their administration. The corruption in Russia means that its very likely that Navalny was assassinated by one of his enemies. But he had many enemies in Russia, he had a lot of friends, but probably more enemies who want to prove something. We will maybe find out in a few months what happened. What I have heard from Ukraine is that the new commander is extremely unpopoular with the public as well as the troops and he is most likely a political appointment by Elenskiy"

Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
"If Putin had him killed it makes as much sense as blowing up his own pipeline. It will certainly strenghten the calls for a continued war against Russia, and regime change. Talking of conspiracies, George Soros has bought a controlling stake in a company that owns 220 US Radio stations and people are suggesting it may be for election interference. Which is crazy because everyone knows bot farms are the way to go."

"Ham I am I'm not sure what you have taken objection to in my post or how you could come away with your conclusions. 1) I have no idea who caused covid, but it probably needs investigating, Bill Gates is a weird fish but I doubt he caused covid. 2) I have israeli family and jewish ancestry, my grandfather worked for RAMC in the war and was in concentration camps as a medic and translator for the survivors, I know the holocaust was real and have debated this on here with holocaust deniers many times. 3) I haven;t heard that about 9/11 - I was on the original 9/11 thread and have always understood it was committed by largely Saudi nationals or saudi funded islamic terrorists. 4) The world is not flat, its an oblate spheroid. I have never stated anything other, apart from a brief spell when I was reading Terry Pratchett's discworld series and I genuinely preferred his version of the theory of the universe. 5) I have no idea what you are on about with Hitler, I'm not a national socialist or from the Ukrainian government so would never support him or his idealogy. Also see point 2) above. I do however work for a russian troll bot farm, as do many other imaginary people in your head. Have you tried unplugging the headwand and restarting it?"

Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
"chim Apologies for not responding earlier, have been travelling all of today and could not get on the site earlier. I agree with most of your post. I have no idea (nor does anybody) what happened to Navalny, my initial reaction was he has been offed (he seemed to be an otherwise healthy guy who seemed in good spirits on his last video call). Russian prisons are not pleasant places, as are amaerican and ukrainian prisons. Russian penal colonies are very tough and he was in one of the toughest. The death and suspected murder rates in these places is high, life is cheap still in some parts of Russia (I remember being told in Crimea that it only cost 30 USD to have somebody offed). Its possible somebody offed him or had him offed, in fact its probable, but cui bono? He was no real threat to Putin while he was in prison, but Putin is ruthless. Look what happened to Nemtsov. Do not assume anything yet, wait a few days and more info will come out, but Navalny was definitely a CIA asset and wanted to arrange a color revolution in Moscow."

Re: Alexei Nalvalny Dead
I hope he gets abducted and smuggled to Ukraine to be released in the centre of Kyiv. We'll see how tough he is then.
