"A great piece of advice I had when starting out was pick songs you KNOW, songs you know by singing along to without thinking about it, makes it much easier to learn that way. I'm all for heading for any shortcut, and this offers the shortest route I've found so far to playing a song I want to play. YC...I am.trying to learn and find Andy Guitar on YouTube really useful. Find him easy to follow and he teaches different levels so if you are more advanced he covers that too. He has a link to his site on YouTube as well.

Yea I seen that Justin fellow he looks good. There is so much out there. Hoping to get to a level where I can do a gig for my 60th..Few years of yet so plenty of time. "Alongside Justin Sandercoe I recommend Paul Davids. He focuses quite a bit on theory, and some of his song breakdowns are excellent. I’ve been playing on and off for 30 years. Pretty decent with chords but have always struggled with keys and scales. I bought myself access to Paul Davids ‘Learn, Practice, Play’ course - pretty good so far and feels like things make a bit more sense. It’s like learning a new language. Main thing is to enjoy it - even if it’s just playing along to some favourite songs."

"BillyJenningsBoots 1:13 Tue Feb 20 Exactly, it depends what you want want. to do I played bass in bands exclusively for almost a devade as spotty punk in various bands before buying a six string. I learned by playing along to records starting with the Ramones and gradually made it more difficult with the likes of Anthrax and Metallica. I will always be hopeless at lead guitar but did learn a few hammer on pull off tricks and can do a passable cover of Thunderstuck and most of Eruption but tricks is all they are. Just get the two main barre chords completely natural via practice, practice, practice and you are ready to go. Open C and G can also come in handy."

"Similar story to me, after not playing for years the fingers start to get sore although not bleeding like they did as a teenager, yet... Just sitting slowly picking it all up again is great. Starting to play a riff you hadn't played for years and then realising it's all in there somewhere you just have to retrieve it . Today I tentatively tried to remember the opening riff to What Difference Does It Make by The Smiths. About ten minutes later my guitar was chiming along. Fucking brilliant. I feel like I'm more into it now than when I was young, much more time for it maybe."

justinguitar.com is worth a look. Plenty of different types of courses on there and it's all free I think. Plus he's a really decent bloke (for an Aussie!). We were based at the same studio for a few years.
