If you could reopen 1 pub or nightclub

Post Nutsin »

Which one would it be and why? Kings in Seven kings for me. Use to love the boxing and the comedians on a Sunday afternoon. Saturday night wasn’t a bad night either.

"Another club we used to venture out to was Cherry’s (In Hackney greyhound track). Seemed miles away at the time. Yeh, we had the best boozers at that time. (Stepney/Bethnal Green/hackney road) Friday/Saturday nights. And plenty of entertainment somewhere during the week. People used to come fm miles away. Was proper East End then. Too many to mention on here now, but just an example is The Old Globe. (and the Black Boy 50 yards away). TM - was that originally the Spooky Lady?"

"Two spring to mind:- The Talbot Inn in Burnley - great friendly boxer with cheap well kept real ales. Did accommodation, had bands on. And slowed you to bring in pizza takeaways and eat them inside. The Flying Pig in Cambridge. Lovely ambience, great beer. Handy for going into before and after a gig at The Junction. When I lived in Cherry Hinton, it was easy to sit outside and see my bus home in good time so I could finish my pint znd dash across the road to the bus stop."

"The Retreat Chigwell Row, wall to wall crumpet, lock ins galore. They used to bring out trays of roast potatoes to nibble on, kept the punters buying drinks. Now a shitty housing estate."

Moriarty's inside Baker street station was a great stop off point particularly on match days. A mix of all clubs heading / returning to games but very rarely any trouble. Now a sandwich shop

"Local pubs ... probably the Esplanade in Southend... great music venue ... famous for booking Pearl Jam in early 90's... Friday nights in the batcave (as we called it) were fucking immense... full on Stone Roses, the Mondays etc. Club - Probably Chesters... for me easily the best night club in Southend in the 80's... heard songs in there that 6 months or so later were chart hits... had Paul Hardcastle do a set down there... no one knew he was apart from he kept playing this song about Vietnam... few months later number 1..."

"May as well just titled the thread what was your favourite club/pub back when, a topic that has been done before of course, as has everything on here. I don't really have any standouts that come to mind, always liked Secrets in Romford, was a tad more upmarket that what else Romford had to offer then."

Chevy chase What was the name of the pub near Benjy's that had a blue front and low ceiling ? It was over the lights on the main road We used to stop of there sometimes after home games and got the odd lock in missing the last train. Good to see the Wentworth arms is still going strong
