Edson ?Ålvarez Signed
"West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of Mexico international Edson ?Ålvarez. The 25-year-old has joined the Hammers on a permanent contract until June 2028 for an undisclosed fee, after the Club fought off strong competition from other top European clubs to bring him to London Stadium. A strong and versatile midfielder, ?Ålvarez moves to English football from Dutch club Ajax, where he won two Eredivisie titles, and less than a month after winning his second CONCACAF Gold Cup with Mexico. Capped 69 times by his country, ?Ålvarez has extensive European experience with Ajax and is now looking forward to playing Premier League and UEFA Europa League football with West Ham. ‚ÄúI am very happy and very proud to be here,‚Äù said ?Ålvarez, who speaks fluent English after learning the language during his four-year stay in Amsterdam. ‚ÄúBeing here in London and seeing London Stadium, it‚Äôs amazing. I can‚Äôt wait to play here in front of the West Ham fans. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs a hugely sentimental moment for me in my career. To join a club like a West Ham is a dream for me and my family. ‚ÄúThe Premier League is a special league, the best league in the world and I think my style will suit it. I now have a responsibility to West Ham and the West Ham family and I will give absolutely everything for the shirt.‚Äù Manager David Moyes is looking forward to working with a player who ranked first in ball carry distance and second in pass attempts in the Eredivisie last season. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre really pleased to add Edson to our squad,‚Äù he said. ‚ÄúThe midfield area was one we were especially keen to strengthen this summer ‚Äì and Edson will complement the other options we have in that department. ‚ÄúHe‚Äôs an experienced international player, who has enjoyed great success for both club and country during his career to date. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre excited about welcoming to West Ham and seeing him play his part in English and European competition for the Club.‚Äù ?Ålvarez will wear the 19 shirt at West Ham United."

"i think in light of the done deals for Broges and Zakaria, i will hold fire on getting excited about this player until I see him sitting in Ken's cafe, wearing a Pony West Ham shirt, singing bubbles and doing crossed arms outside the Boleyn pub."

"I know nothing about him, educate me please. Yes I could google him but a WHO player review is always more honest."

Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"Chelsea wanted him and i think he was even refusing to play to try and get the deal through, that was January i think? Ajax held firm so it didn't happen but i expect that set alarm bells ringing so they are maybe selling while they can get a good fee? Plus, it sounds like Ajax have just had a deal finalized, it maybe the replacement for Alveraz. As said Dortmund also keen and by all accounts if Chelsea can't get the bloke from Brighton, then it was back to Alverez. In Mexico he is nicknamed the Machine, they love nicknames for players! Remember the Little Pea?"

SullyHammer 12:02 Mon Aug 7 That doesn't really matter - he'll be sat on the bench for 4 months while he acclimatises to the Premier League. He'll have seen enough by then to want out in the January window.

Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"Can someone provide a brief synopsis about this guy and where he might fit within the team? I haven't seen a lot of him but he appears (from what I can tell anyway) to be defensive minded and can break up the play and distribute the ball well. He does look a bit lightweight? If he's as good as people are saying he is, why are no other teams in for him, why is he joining West Ham and why do Ajax want to let him go?"

Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"The one I wanted all along. Dortmund wanted him, and he's coming from Ajax. Both those teams know how to find a player, normally. God knows why this couldn't have been done at the start of the transfer window though. It doesn't seem like Ajax have budged much from their initial price for him."
