A lot of optimism is based on Liverpool having injuries and a big game at home to Arsenal on Saturday. I’ll put up with Moyesball tonight if we can beat them at Anfield.

"If I really did have to make a call I probably would rather play Chelsea than the Toon, even last might away from home and with all their injuries Chelsea needed a pen after yet another fuck up from Trippier. Of course we are likely to go out tonight anyway. Not so long ago some on here were predicting relegation, now we are going to turn Liverpool over at fortress Anfield? Fickle, what us?"
Re: ‚ö? Liverpool v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
"This could carry on forever. The reality is that we could reach the semi’s of the Carabao cup tonight and the teams left are Chelsea, Fulham and Middlesbrough."
Re: ‚ö? Liverpool v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
The bookies have them at 13/5 for top 6 us at 19/1 They have a lot of very good players and are 7 points from the top 6 with 21 games to go.. Not exactly a mountain is it?

"fraser 10:05 Wed Dec 20 They won't be qualifying for Europe through any league position, however if you think they will then it would signal a turn around in form that would definitely make them a bigger threat than Newcastle ...and Pagey... yes, the reason is probably because the new manger is still trying to impose himself on a disparate bunch of multi-millionaires but it's possibly coming and in any event knows full well that in January he can sign the goalscorer they've been missing"

There’s a reason why Chelsea have nothing left to play for.
Re: ‚ö? Liverpool v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Agree with Manuel there. Never expected Port Vale to win but as far as the others are concerned was completely ambivalent. If anything Chelsea would prove to be the hardest opponent as (yet to start FAC campaign aside) they have literally nothing else to play for

"Like we keep saying it will have to be an absolute freak result for us to win at Anfield. We can all say we ‚Äúfeel‚Äù‚Äôit or point to superstition ( us beating teams in newly developed stadiums ) but the facts are we don‚Äôt get anything up there usually. Yes they have some injuries but even that has not helped in the past. I suppose that even a remote chance is a chance though. Watching you‚Äôre football team is a sort of addiction really those ‚Äúhighs‚Äù are so great that you endure a life time if disappointments waiting for them. Like the hangovers after a good skinful, the great night out worth the pain next day :-). Although getting hammered happens a lot more than a West Ham win at Anfield. Just got to hope everything somehow goes our way. But don‚Äôt be surprised if we get robbed via a refereeing decision ( no VAR in the Carabou ? ) or some deflected goal from Trent Alexander. Anyway, nothing we can do to control anything so it will be what it will be. Got Kudus and Bowen and Paquet?° these days and Kudus particularly seems to have something special when it comes to scoring a goal or two ( Alf puts miss of death on him)"

"Not sure we would have more chance of beating Chelsea over Newcastle or Everton over Fulham, but yea IF we get through tonight we are in with a great chance of more silverware."

I think we have got a decent shout in this one. 2.2 draw and we win it on pens. Fulham in the semis ( watch out Hammersmith bridge) and the Chels in the final.

"This is a huge game now after tonight’s results and you would imagine that Liverpool will rotate their team at the very least, due to having a massive league game up next. There’s no reason why we can’t go up there, full of confidence, and give them a game. I fancy us to go through. Got a weird feeling!"

"Admiral I was there at the tender age of 15 Anfield full at 45/46000 capacity - Bobby Moore was immense - but real hero was Jim Standen who saved a Ronnie Moran penalty around the hour mark. Hunt pulled one back for the scousers - but we ran out 2-1 winners - thanks to goals from Hurst & Peters - surprise, surprise."

"In my entire 62 years on this planet West Ham United has won just twice at Anfield. 1963 2-1 with Bobby Moore as Captain, the scorers were Hurst and Peters. 2015 3-0 with Mark Noble getting a red card but not before he had scores with Sakho and Lanzini getting the other 2. How I would dearly love a third victory on this particular occasion. Have to keep believing."

"Vexed 8:46 Tue Dec 19 Yeah it’s very likely. They are always very strong at Anfield. Since the late 60s, some 55 years I always thought that probability would see us win the odd game up there. Nope, just the once unfortunately. And our form has been consistently inconsistent since the Xmas after the COVID season. So it’s hard to get too excited that after a couple of good wins we are going to give Liverpool a seeing to. Equally when we get found out by a Brentford, Aston Villa or Fulham there’s the feeling that the squad quality ( certain individuals ) and Moyes approach will avoid a complete collapse and we can eek out a victory or two. The wins over Freiburg and Wolves saw us play better with the ball for sure but neither side really pressed relentlessly as some sides do and perhaps we had a little more time or space? Liverpool teams do tend to play that gegenpress style so we will see if we can still find the time and room and have enough of tge ball to lay a glove on them. As with the Wolves game we will likely rely on quick counters to get in behind if like Wolves they overcommit going forward or lose possession. I would settle for pens but know we have to score as we tend to concede most games now"

"Yeh, same TM. Got a good feeling about this one. Can see us winning 2-3. Come on West Ham, do the scarse gits!"
