"Stevethehammer 6:29 Mon Dec 18 Legal migration last year was an order magnitude greater tham illegal migration (even with expanded difinition of the latter). The main problem is the lack of capacity in the Home Ofiice to process and keep track of those who arrive claiming asylum due the austerity driven hollowing out of government departments generally. The majority of those who do claim asylum are eventually granted permission to stay meanwhile the taxpayer picks up the tab for accomodation. That is before you get to performative (and ludicrously expensive) stunts like Bibby Stockholm and the Rwanda Policy. The latter has chewed through £290m already abd these are just the initital set up costs i.e. bribes. There will be further £50m per annum of those with the actual costs of accomodating those few who might evetually go to Rwanda coming on top. Your story is far from unique, the price to pay for coming to work here legally is already high and going to get higher. I'd start by taking away the dispensation to companies recruiting from overseas to pay 25% less than they would for poeple already living here. It would, at least, make it far more attractive to employ existing residents as a first choice."

"It seems to me that the government are pretty much burying their head in the sand when it comes to mass illegal immigration. My wife comes from the Philippines and we are almost 2 and a half years into her first spouse visa here, it is due for renewal next year. Now they have massively increased the salary thresholds meaning that she might not be able to stay after October 2024 unless I earn over 38k 38k in this economy isn't a salary that most people are close to, let alone on. So it seems like if you are rich you can still fall in love with a foreigner and bring them here. Now my wife has worked ever since she got the spouse visa which entitled her to work, she is one of thousands who help to prop up our failing care system that the Tories want to absolutely decimate and seem to want the older generation to be forgotten about. It seems to me, that coming here illegally, and you get past the system, you can stay here, unvetted, unchecked and slip into the gig economy, uber driver life etc. So personally I think something needs to be done to stop the boats, stop mass illegal immigration but this seems to also be of massive impact of people who come here legally to work and contribute to society. Personally i have forked out well over 10k to bring my wife here and will have to fork out another 5k in a few months times and the legal channels are there for us, but making it harder and far more expensive to come here legally, will only drive more people into the boats, someone somewhere is making an absolute fortune in this happening and as long as the government get a share, they don't give two fucks about the people wanting to come to actually make a difference, prop up failing industries such as the NHS and care sector and this is clearly shown by the extreme measures that will stop people coming here LEGALLY."

Why no government led initiative to get companies to invest in nations from which these immigrants come? I'm sure that they would rather get paid employment in their land of birth as opposed to travelling halfway across the planet in just the hope (HOPE) of finding work.

He was elected a Conservative councillor at 18 and immediately started working as a paid parliametary assistant at the same time. The minister for immigration who's only had the job for five days and of course used that to his advantage every time the questions got tricky was a proper fucking dick. The two civil servants looking after him were only marginally better. one of the questions was 'the prime minister said that he was stopping the boats and deported 5000 Albanians. I see on the sheet that the number deported back from small boats is less than 400. Where is the prime minister getting these numbers from'? 'errr...It's true that he said that and indeed it's less than 400 but he was talking about all Albanians arriving here by any form of transport since 2020 and a lot of those were sent back from our prison system'. This government (in case you haven't noticed) is FUCKING useless."
