Moyes and the GOAT conversation
Moyes and the GOAT conversation
"So we appear to be heading in the right direction and it’s no coincidence that our fortunes turned around when Moyes came back. Since his return we have had some good finishes in the table, some great cup runs especially in Europe. We’ve even broken a record with European wins along the way. We’re beating the best teams now and even have some silverware to show for our efforts. So where does he stand in the list of west Ham managers? Is he our GOAT? If not, what would it take? Win the Europa league? Top 4 finish? F A Cup win? And for the haters what will it take to change your opinion? Is there anything he can do to win you over? Finally, Where does this current team compare to the best teams we’ve had?"

Re: Moyes and the GOAT conversation
Yep no one seems to agree with you is my point.... Greenwood and Lyall were around for years with ups and downs so their stats are worthy as a benchmark - Moyes has had 2 stints and his league stats are not that great. Lyall won 2 FA Cups Greenwood an FA Cup and CWC so - no not the GOAT EOT
Re: Moyes and the GOAT conversation
"In years gone by we didn’t have all the European competitions we now have and most managers had to sell to buy players. Moyes has benefitted enormously from having big budgets and qualification for Europe for finishing 7th. Moyes has wasted close to £200m on players that he doesn’t play when he realises they are shit. The success this season is brought about because the board hired an expert in player recruitment who added Kudus, Alvarez and Mavropanos…"
Re: Moyes and the GOAT conversation
Comparatively to other West Ham managers Moyes has been backed considerably more than any other. Bar one season when Curbs threw around some Icelandic money we’ve never been able to attract players like we do today.
Re: Moyes and the GOAT conversation
Yeah but Goose none of the other teams had boat loads of money to spend back in the day either. The fact that there is a lot money in football still makes it comparable as other clubs are spending too. Some might argue it’s harder to compete because of the clear advantage the bigger clubs have due to their deeper pockets and teams like Chelsea buying everyone and anyone. Greenwoods domestic record wasn’t great either. Under Lyall we were relegated twice.
Re: Moyes and the GOAT conversation
"He’s had a level of financial backing that no other has had, so it’s impossible to compare. It’s like Man City fans comparing Mancini and Alan Ball. Losing a record 20 league games in a season with a £450m team doesn’t make him the ‘GOAT’ for me."
Re: Moyes and the GOAT conversation
"So only the F A Cup Billy Boy? What about the Europa league? As for the thread not going well, just take a look at the salty responses from the usual whiners. This thread was always gonna trigger the Neg heads. Funny thing is they’ve all been dead wrong for years!"

Re: Moyes and the GOAT conversation
Hmmm this has gone well Nutsin son... To back up the others I'd say his European record is up there but his League stats are not so good... I'm hopeful that he could improve/continue as per recent form in the league.. but I would expect him to fail against Brighton. Anyway until he's won an actual FA cup he won't compare to either Lyall or Greenwood End of thread
Re: Moyes and the GOAT conversation
"There is no conversation in regards to Moyes being the best manager we’ve ever had. Also, most British people with half a brain don’t use the term goat to describe a sports person. Unless they are utter cunts."
