These Super Cups in Saudi

Post ludo21 »

"The turn of the Italians this week… Napoli just beat Fiorentina in the semi (wtf) in a very sparsely populated stadium… apparently the Saudis were upset it wasn’t Juventus and Milan. Firstly, how do you have semi finals in a Super Cup and why are all these teams falling at the feet of the Saudis? Money obviously! Absolutely disgusting!! Where will it end?"

"Their getting their claws into snooker now. Have a look at this from the Riyadh tournament. ""The tournament will feature the introduction of a 23rd golden ball, known as the Riyadh Season ball, which will be worth 20 points, however, this can only be potted once a maximum break of 147 has been completed"""

"This is a clear example of people knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing, and that, 100%, includes the administrations supplying the teams to play in such locations. Imagine - OK, imagine really (REALLY) hard - that West Ham get to the semi-final stage of a national cup competition (possibly against Tottenham) only to be told that the game will be held in Medina."

It’s the direction of travel isn’t it? I would expect some of the biggest financial institutions to relocate to the Middle East in the medium term.

Made me laugh when they booed the minutes silence for Beckenbauer in the Spanish one. You'd have thought they'd look into local customs before they try to force stuff like that on them. But maybe the people who decided that are as thick as Henderson.

"All part of the Saudi drive to become a tourist hub. ""Come and spend 2 weeks in the sand not drinking and watching the locals bang their heads on the floor 5 times a day. While you're here why not take in a prestigious football match between 2 internationally renowned teams as they battle it out in one of their nation's exclusive cup competitions?"""
