Daily Quiz anyone?
"If you are stuck at home and bored like me. How about exercising the old grey cells? I have for a number of years run quiz nights and couple of times a year. I was due to do one tomorrow which is now cancelled So I have a bank of questions sitting in my computer's hard drive. They are quite eclectic in their nature. I am thinking I could put up a set of questions for which you write down your answers. After 30mins or so I will put up the answers. DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS. before I post the right answers. You mark your own answers and post your score. I will then record the scores and at the end of the ""lockdown"" we will see who is WHO's brainbox supreme. Obiviously no looking up the answers (you only cheat yourselves) Word of warning these won't be easy questions as they have been devised for teams of six. Forming teams on here might be too problematic. So I'll try to pick out the easier questions. Any interest?"

This common pub name refers to a philanthropic 18th-century soldier. Commander in Chief of the British army he was appalled at the lack of financial help for wounded men forced out of service by disability. So he bought pubs for them to provide a living. This generosity to ex-servicemen ruined him and he died in 1770 with debts equivalent today to £4m. Marquis of Granby 3. Religion underpins this common pub name. It refers to St Peter, who controls the entry to Heaven. Cross Keys 4. This name is based on the true tale of a king on the run. After the 1651 Battle of Worcester in the English Civil War, the defeated Prince Charles fled the scene with Cromwell’s troops on his tail. Reaching Bishops Wood in Staffordshire, where hid for a day until his pursuers moved on. Charles then escaped to France, and later returned as Charles II on the Restoration in 1660. Royal Oak 5. When the Romans invaded Britain in AD43 they brought drinking dens with them, called tabernae (hence the word “taverns”). These were traditionally denoted by a bunch of vine leaves hanging outside. But in then vine-free Britain, Roman landlords improvised with any evergreen plant they could find. The Holly Bush 9. Possibly the oldest figure in English folklore, this image can still be found in medieval cathedrals and churches throughout Europe and is commonly believed to be an ancient fertility symbol. Many Christians have adopted the figure, , as a symbol of Easter and of the resurrection, while others regard him as the devil. The Green Man 10. The name comes from the famous racehorse owned by the first Duke of Westminster. Despite his winning form it could be particularly temperamental and challenging in its behaviour. But by the time it retired it had won the prestigious Triple Crown of the Epsom Derby, 2,000 Guineas and the St Leger Stakes during an undefeated season in 1899 Flying Fox"
