Daily Quiz anyone?

Post easthammer »

"If you are stuck at home and bored like me. How about exercising the old grey cells? I have for a number of years run quiz nights and couple of times a year. I was due to do one tomorrow which is now cancelled So I have a bank of questions sitting in my computer's hard drive. They are quite eclectic in their nature. I am thinking I could put up a set of questions for which you write down your answers. After 30mins or so I will put up the answers. DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS. before I post the right answers. You mark your own answers and post your score. I will then record the scores and at the end of the ""lockdown"" we will see who is WHO's brainbox supreme. Obiviously no looking up the answers (you only cheat yourselves) Word of warning these won't be easy questions as they have been devised for teams of six. Forming teams on here might be too problematic. So I'll try to pick out the easier questions. Any interest?"

"Rios, definitely good for a point :) Even if I was aware of the legend and the King John bit, I didn't know too much about the timelines and relative ages. I also believe that Sheffield, particularly because of the village of Loxley, lays claim to being the stomping ground of Mr Hood. Quite possibly the RH legend is the compilation of many stories of that time. When John was running the country in Richard's absence, and causing much disatisfaction"

"east Years ago my son was studying Ivanhoe and had to write an essay on myth vs historical fact. I helped him look into the history of the Robyn Hood legend, and it surprised me where it most likely came from. By the 13th and 14th centuries, names similar to Robyn/Robert Hood were almost like slang and described a type of person more than just a name, and there is reference to him as a character in mid 13th century, which is no coincidence considering Richard I died right at the end of the 12th C. In the legend of RH he was fighting against unjust taxes imposed by Prince John, who was ruling while his brother Richard I was away fighting in the crusade. Prince John tried to pretend that Richard was dead and wanted to be crowned king, but he had to wait for many years yet. There is no mention of the death of RH in the legend, but King Richard was much older than him in the story, so it can be assumed that RH survived King Richard and went on to live under the rule of King John in 1200 ish Hard work for a bonus point"
