Daily Quiz anyone?

Post easthammer »

"If you are stuck at home and bored like me. How about exercising the old grey cells? I have for a number of years run quiz nights and couple of times a year. I was due to do one tomorrow which is now cancelled So I have a bank of questions sitting in my computer's hard drive. They are quite eclectic in their nature. I am thinking I could put up a set of questions for which you write down your answers. After 30mins or so I will put up the answers. DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS. before I post the right answers. You mark your own answers and post your score. I will then record the scores and at the end of the ""lockdown"" we will see who is WHO's brainbox supreme. Obiviously no looking up the answers (you only cheat yourselves) Word of warning these won't be easy questions as they have been devised for teams of six. Forming teams on here might be too problematic. So I'll try to pick out the easier questions. Any interest?"

"Our value is g 2/5g - 4 < 6. means that 2/5 of a number , then subtract 4 is less than 6 (Add 4 to our number and add 4 to 6. This cancellls out the -4) Leaves us with 2/5 of a numer being less than 10. Multiply everything by 5 to cancel out the /5. This leaves us with 2x our number being less than 50 Divide everything by 2 to cancel out the x2 Our number is less than 25. We'll never know what the number is, all we know is that is is less than 25. If I plug any number into that formula bigger than 25. It won't be less than 6. Eg. If I use 20. 2/5 of 20 - 4 = 4. Which is less than 6 If I were to use 30 2/5 of 30 - 4 = 8. This is greater than 6 and doesn't match our rule. = is not necessarily the ""answer"" to a question. It means equal to. A sum can also have greater than or less than as part of the answer Eg 2+2 is equal to 4 2 + 2 is less than 5 It's just that 99% of the time answers come with an equals sign. Hopefully that's a little clearer"

Full marks 26? I didn't need the calculator but had to reach for pen and paper on the last one. My arithmetical skills have always been reasonable but somewhat slower these days.

"Somehow didn't paste the last 2 properly. Amended it. 2nd to last one is an inequality. It's solved exactly the same way as a linear equation. Just with a greater than sign instead of an equals sign. The final bit was missing off it g < 25. You do the opposite to cancel out everything associated with the missing value. Eg -4, you add 4 to both sides to cancel it out"

"With working out. Orrect answer = full marks on a question. If you've not got the right answer but have some working out you can pick up marks.
