Mike Oxsaw" wrote: ↑28 Aug 2024, 12:41 The Amazon link seems to work - I managed to log in to my existing Amazon account using it and order about 60 quids worth of stuff.
This gave me a delivery date of "Mar 19" and an order status as "Cancelled",, but I'm pretty sure that's nothing to do with using the link.
The money's waiting to be transferred from my bank, so the order does seem to have gone through.
Apologies for the waffle - I can report on progress if anybody's a little wary of ordering this way.
To explain the mechanic, all that happens is:
- We send you to Amazon, but with WHO's new 'Affiliate Link' tagged on the end.
- This signifies to Amazon you went there because of WHO.
- If you then buy something having been sent there by WHO, Amazon give a royalty payment to the WHO account against whatever gets bought by you for next 24 hours (unless you follow someone else's tagged link in the meantime).
None of the prices to you change, the shopping is entirely the same...just Amazon chalk the sale up as driven by WHO and pay a small marketing commission.

Just use that search box to launch Amazon (put in what looking for, select a category, and press 'search'). I'll change the terminology from 'Widget' to 'Search Bar'.

stubbo-admin wrote: ↑26 Aug 2024, 12:31 Will do.
The goal is for this to self fund in the future.
There'll be some ads that help (hopefully unobtrusive), and if we can ask people who are going to shop at Amazon anyway to get to Amazon by the bar at the top (just to do the initial search) it means a cut of the Amazon profits will come to WHO instead of all going to Amazon and help pay for the site.
A subscription model ends up being a management overhead as well as a barrier for some so the intention is not to directly charge (paying for Vexed to call me a 'know nothing c**t' might seem counter intuitive after all!).
Jesus I'm on Amazon every day buying some crap, I'll gladly support you guys

Re: New Threads...
Damn!
Wish I'd known earlier about the Amazon thing; just spent about a bag of sand on there and it's too late to cancel and re-order.
Nice to know for next time, though.

Re: New Threads...
If I could make a suggestion? As a priority could you migrate the WHO fund thread as I was under the (deluded) impression that all this was self funded, but it seems North Bank has been paying out of his own pocket?
Sorry if I have the details wrong but is there any way we could have a whip round at least to start it all off?
Or maybe an annual fee?
Regards and thanks to all concerned.
