Rugby World Cup
Rugby World Cup
Not a massive fan of this sport. Seems everyone forgets the rules when on the pitch and give away stupid penalties. One thing thoug I'm pretty sure it was meant to be played in 30C temperatures. Those big guys will be collapsing in this heat.

"Jonah Lomas 8:58 Hmmmm. Not sure mate. Think he was a bit quick off the mark, but almost impossible to tell from the video taken from behind the line. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/IVlJ3FJn6OU https://www.theroar.com.au/rugby-union/video/watch-desperation-play-from-cheslin-kolbe-to-charge-down-conversion-and-keep-scores-level-1312338/ Still, it was the French. So who REALLY gives a monkeys?ü§£?ü§£"

"MaryMillingtonsGhost 7:27 Mon Oct 16 I think he was ok, but I haven't seen a definitive angle. If he sets off at the exact moment Ramos first moves he could get there. Kolby is pretty bloody quick. Remember, the kicker doesn't have to be moving towards the ball, just started his run up, which in most cases involves a step back and/or a step to the side."

"There are so many things to dislike about English rugby. The arrogance, the turgid style etc etc but surely the worst thing is Owen Farrell? Do YOU guys even like him?"

Re: Rugby World Cup
Eerie Descent 7:27 Mon Oct 16 Richard WIgglesworth is the attack coach and box kick and chase was his number one option when he was scum half at Saracens and Leicester. He was very good at it and Mitchell less so.

"ED, correct, I don't watch any club rugby, however my sister is a season ticket holder at Saracens, so she knows a bit about the game and tells me a bit What I would say is we seem to play an archaic brand of rugby that would not attract new fans of the game"

"zico 6:16 I don't think it was legal. He begins his charge-down before the French player had even began to address the ball, thus making him offside (I think). Surprised it wasn't even checked during the game. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/IVlJ3FJn6OU"

"Leroy's, he's under instruction to kick constantly, the whole team are, that's Borthwick for you. He doesn't do that for Harlequins, he a fantastic rugby player. I think a few of you don't really watch much rugby outside of the world cup."

"Mitchell wasn't in the original squad btw, JVP was going to be our starter but he got injured, and Care/Young's are too old to start. It is one of a few weak positions for England. I though Raffi Quirke would be the one to come through, but think he got injured at a bad time. Still, we're in the semi-finals. Oh yes we are."

Re: Rugby World Cup
"Steward is great under the high ball, and I like him as a character, but he gives you nothing from an attacking sense, and he's not great defensively for his size. Smith gives another dimension to our attack, which has been fucking appalling, hence the change. As for Mitchell, he's not shit at all, no world beater but he's a good scrum half, he's not getting the greatest service and he's being asked to play in a different way to what he plays for his club. Obviously Arundel should be playing, but he apparently had a tear up with Farrell in training, that's why he's not even in the squad. Ridiculous, as he's the only potential world class back we have, but there you go. Still, we're in the semi-finals, lovely stuff."
Re: Rugby World Cup
Not really a Rugby fan so not an expert but can anyone explain Cheslin Kolbe’s charge-down on he conversion as I have never seen that before and am quite surprised it is legal. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/was-cheslin-kolbe-s-crucial-charge-down-in-south-africa-vs-france-illegal/ar-AA1ihOwF

Re: Rugby World Cup
Mitchell doesn't have the look of a rugby player. He looks like he should be playing cricket.

Re: Rugby World Cup
"Surface Ah yes I get Care is 36 good point ... but do we have such a dearth of scrum halves that makes Mitchell first choice.. is there no one better?! Cos we are in trouble then... And as for Smith apart from the battering he got I thought he was OK, didn't hide and stood his ground Steward would've come off the same when hit in the face like that... Made one bad decision with ball in hand... His size is a hindrance against these monsters and unfortunately SA have some real monsters.. their kicking will be far better so I expect Steward will come back."

Re: Rugby World Cup
Marcus Smith at full back was an amusing selection. Drop one of the few players who has been adequate and replace him with a bloke who has no physical presence at fly-half and at full back is even worse. Brilliant. He ended yesterday looking like a rag doll that had been repeatedly mauled and buried in the back garden by the friendly family Labrador.

Re: Rugby World Cup
"Can anyone who watches more rugby than me (only really interested in the Internationals) explain what Mitchell brings to the team as scrum half as all I have seen is poor decision making - running into blind alleys, poorer kicking - his box kicks and territory kicks are woeful... he looks out of his depth but Borthwick seems to persist with him ..... Why???? whenever Care comes on he usually looks a lot more dynamic"

"Just glad France lost as whoever England got in the semi final I can only see one outcome, and it isn't going to be pretty! I'm in France next weekend and the thought of my French host revelling in a forty point victory wasn't filling me with much excitement."
