Rugby World Cup
Not a massive fan of this sport. Seems everyone forgets the rules when on the pitch and give away stupid penalties. One thing thoug I'm pretty sure it was meant to be played in 30C temperatures. Those big guys will be collapsing in this heat.

El Scorchio I am literally ONLY here for the rugby chat. I'll be back to having a very occasional browse from Sunday. Just a shame that most of the decent rugby posters are gone.

Re: Rugby World Cup
It’s a Commonwealth final really….only the French have prevented this being the case and they are hardly the ‘World’ as a singular nation…crack on thinking the Kiwis being good at rugby means anything though…. Globally…

Desperation? Ha ha We've got a world cup final to worry about. Guess who's playing in it? Bongi Mbonambi. Guess who isn't? Tom Curry.

Re: Rugby World Cup
"Capitol Man 2:52 Fri Oct 27 I have no idea what he's saying. And neither do you. It could be white cսnt, wyd kant, wit kant or something else. If, as nich says below, English may well be his 3rd language, should he not use common words from his 1st or 2nd language because they sound like something else in another language? You know, in the middle of a world cup semi final, run through a quick checklist. If you've ever been to a test match involving SA, pretty much the only time you hear them speak English is to the ref. It makes complete sense for them to speak Afrikaans, no other team can understand them. Not aware of any other teams being offended by it either."

"Lee Trundle wrote... Re: Rugby World Cup Only 10% speak Afrikaans there, FC. As a HOME language, yes (13.5%) BUT Afrikaans is a widely spoken second language. Mbonambi coming from Bethlehem in the Free State would probably have grown up with Afrikaans as his second language (and English as probably a third language although he went to an English language high school)."

"Jonah Lomas 4:49 Thu Oct 26 Re: Rugby World Don’t be fucking ridiculous - you can’t tell me that someone speaking both languages doesn’t know what he’s saying - it also doesn’t relate to ANYTHING in the game. If it’s a line out call then the entire pack and much of the bench would have to memorize it beforehand and you think not one of them, or the coaches would have pointed out there was a problem with it."

"Eerie Descent 1:55 Thu Oct 26 I don't think I've discussed Michael Vaughan on here before today, or double standards on racism. Happy to be reminded of my comments on a particular subject of course. Michael Vaughan not being found guilty ""on the balance of probability"" is hardly a ringing endorsement of his innocence is it. Just like World Rugby closing this case. Their statement doesnt say that Curry's claim is false. It just says there is insufficient evidence so the case is closed. Unless additional evidence comes to light. https://www.world.rugby/news/886044/world-rugby-statement"

Re: Rugby World Cup
"Lee, hahaha, would a black bloke from Bethlehem SA be au fait with the Afrikaans language? Maybe, maybe not?"
Re: Rugby World Cup
"If it was a misunderstanding as is claimed, the RFU as an organisation would be the first to acknowledge that. Likewise I expect Tom Curry would do the same. Both have doubled down on it, which I think is telling. The Afrikaans claim is convenient to say the least. Almost possible to use the slur knowing you can fall back on that nonsense. Clearly there are double standards. If the roles were reversed, Curry would be banned from the final, and would have been assumed guilty without a trial. History tells you that. Anyone arguing otherwise is just trying to be edgy. Do I think Curry was offended by it? Absolutely not. But why should it be allowed one way and not the other?"

"Jonah Lomas 12:59 Thu Oct 26 You had plenty to say when people were calling out the double standards, yet when you're given a direct example, you've suddenly got nothing to say. Sounds about right. Maybe don't stick your oar in if you're not prepared to accept actual evidence of things that have happened previously that have been treated in a completely different way? Same goes for that absolute whelk coma."

White side does indeed translate as Wit Kant in Afrikaans so there may be some confusion

All Blacks is obviously a racially offensive term and should be replaced by the more accurate All Cunts

Re: Rugby World Cup
Understand the Saffas reckon he used an Afrikanns expression saying WHITE SIDE to his teammates in a lineout to indicate where the ball was (ie on England's side) The expression sounds like WHITE cսnt Curry I presume says it was addressed to him not the teammates and believe was also used in a previous game at Twickenham If as asked below a white player in English called someone a BLACK cսnt I am not sure whether there could be the same 'confusion' If thats what it is here
