Cricket World Cup
"Starts on 5 October. Hopefully England can successfully defend the trophy, but it will be tough in Indian conditions. If England fall short, anyone but India or Australia please. I do fear India will 'find a way' to win their home World Cup though, given it's in their backyard and they effectively control the ICC these days."

Re: Cricket World Cup
South Africa B (de facto) beating South Africa is hardly rhe massive shock it is being made out to be.

Probably the biggest upset in WC history Kenya beat the Windies in the mid 90's think is no.1 Scott Edwards born in Tonga when his Dad was working there Am going to guess he is the first TONGAN to play in the World Cup

Re: Cricket World Cup
Great stuff by the Dutch! England no longer the victims of the biggest upset of the tournament!

Re: Cricket World Cup
Sri Lanka turn 125/0 into 209 all out & beaten with 15 overs to spare. Need more of those to repair the NRR after big defeats. Up with the pack on one win from three. Relying on India & S Africa to win every game (NZ will choke) bar their match up.to help keep 3rd & 4th open. On to Pakistan on Friday next

Re: Cricket World Cup
"World Test Champions and ASHES HOLDERS (for the rest of your life) will do for now but have made a mess of selection and performance here. Didnt expect them to win a World Cup in India although they did for World Cup #1 (of 5). Not sure how you can turn up in India with one specialist spinner (who is out of form) and leave out one day bowlers in favour of Test players. After a disappointing tour of India & Ashes am hoping there will be some P45's for the coach, selector & captain & next summer can be a reboot."

Re: Cricket World Cup
Bumrah is so good because he has variations If you just run up and bowl the same at pace it goes. And the faster you bowl often the further it goes. India have all bases covered with their attack .... and all bases covered with pitch preparation where each ground has a variety of red soil and black soil pitches so they can serve up a suitable pitch (FOR THEMSELVES) wherever they go. Last chance saloon for Australia and Sri Lanka this morning. 0-3 and its tournament over

Re: Cricket World Cup
"With the exception of Rashid and a few others, England have sent a team set up to play a northern hemisphere World Cup on skiddy grass tops. Too many pedestrian medium-pacers breaking their backs on turning tracks, and too many batsman who can’t read spin on helpful slow pitches. And they’re led by a poor captain who isn’t a patch (leadership wise) on Morgan or Stokes. Buttler can be a very good ODI batsman (although he’s one of those beguiled by spin in Asia), but he’s a slow cricket brain and uninspiring. Stokes he ain’t."

Re: Cricket World Cup
"It wouldn't take much Fraser. You win the toss and you bat, runs on the board creates pressure, simple as that. Seamers in India seldom work, by all means play Topley & Wood but ditch the out of form Woakes & Curran and put in more spin options. See how well the part time bowling of Livingstone worked. A half fit Stokes is better than a fully fit Bairstow on current form."
