Admin assistance required please
"A well known regular WHOer messaged me yesterday to ask if WHO had finally ceased to exist cos he's been unable to connect to it, and only got ""oops, we are unable to find that site"" etc. I told him it was working for me. This morning he sent me this: Tried connecting via Firefox & Edge on PC and Safari on IPad and continue to get a message stating the server can’t be found. Can you ask Admin if they have any ideas please? He's been around long enough to know to try wiping his knob on the screen, so I assume he's already done that."

"On Sydney Iron's thread this morning, the view was different, it had options to lock thread/delete thread/yellow card. I was tempted, but decided not to be too childish (plus Pickle wasn't on there to issue him a yellow)"
Re: Admin assistance required please
It's a happened a few times since you made the change but I have just made two replies with no problem for today. Thanks for your work

"Far Cough 11:38 Mon Nov 20 ""Wils, sometimes I get a ""bad gateway error"" if I try to reply to a post, so I have to go back to the ""net"" address to get through. Doesn't always happen though."" Has that been happening often? If it was mainly yesterday that might have been me restarting the servers as I made changes."

Re: Admin assistance required please
"Crikey, that is a problem. I wrongly assumed you mirrored the old site and pointed it to the same database."
Re: Admin assistance required please
"""wtf wrote.."". ""Wils, the site is so quick now, you're working wonders mate, good job."" Thanks mate. ""Regarding the redirect for the old .net site, ...or chuck something this at the top of all php files served by the .net site:"" The problem is no-one has access to the old .net site. I am doing all this through a reverse proxy. I have been in touch with Northbank who may have access to the DNS settings and can put a redirect in there. Main thing now is to keep people off the .net set as that will limit what we can achieve with the .co.uk site. So may have a solution, will keep you updated."

"Wils, the site is so quick now, you're working wonders mate, good job. Regarding the redirect for the old .net site, depending on what you have access to, you could set a redirect in the web server (set a location header), or chuck something this at the top of all php files served by the .net site: header(""Location: https://www.westhamonline.co.uk""); die(); or, maybe better, you could have a redirect using javascript that fires 10 seconds after displaying a page saying 'site has moved, update your bookmarks' or something."

"Bouncing Ludo ""co.uk was down briefly for me, but is now back"" Probably just me restarting it. I have whomailed Northbank too. No luck either. Maybe he has given up on it? I'll start separate thread to see if I can get his attention."

"co.uk was down briefly for me, but is now back I believe North Bank is the domain owner, but I who-mailed a few weeks ago about it but haven't heard anything. Great work so far."
Re: Admin assistance required please
"I have now made this change I mentioned below. So you should find repeat requests are quite zippy. So forum pages are now cached (just for 30 seconds at the moment) which should keep a lot of traffic from hitting that dodgy database. The entire cache is invalidated when someone posts something so there should be no lag after the post and they should appear straight away. Because I am making these changes on a live site there may be some unintended consequences I have missed. So will keep on this thread if anyone experiences something strange. Hopefully all that you should see different is ""Logged in"" on the forums pages rather than your profile name - this was necessary to make the page cacheable. Again. Anyone knows who is responsible for the .net domain point me there way."
Re: Admin assistance required please
"""wtf wrote..."" ""I found some pics a while ago, I thought would work for the banner."" Ha. I am happy to stick them up. I changed a few already and was thinking to try and put some more humorous or, let's say, idiosyncratic images at the top. Main thing for me is not to piss anyone off. I am trying to fix a few things and keep the site going but it's obviously not my website and I don't want to make any changes that drives anyone away. On the other-hand no one with authority on this website seems to want to engage with me (or anyone else) about what they want doing. On a side note I am going to try and take the caching up to another level (using Varnish for the nerds) This should help for the match days threads by serving pages from a cache rather than hitting the database each time. When people post on a thread the cache will be cleared so people can see the latest posts. This should take as much load as possible from the database and *hopefully* stop the problems people see on match days. If I can get it working it will mean I will have to swap out the profile name in the bar at the top and it will just say 'logged in' rather than the name of your profile. You'll still see your profile name when you post or click on 'Profile'. Main thing that would help now is if the person who registers westhamonline.net each year can redirect that url to the .co.uk one. Anyone know who that is?"

"Yeah awesome work wils, thank you. "Mike Oxsaw wrote... ""Excellent new images at the top of the page!"" Cheers. Only did a few. Thought there should be some recent history up there amongst the older photos. Will see if I can sort out those greyed out pictures too. Not sure what the idea was with that."

Re: Admin assistance required please
"Mad Dog "".Co.uk not working today"" You sure you are using www.westhamonline.co.uk and not just westhamonline.co,uk (without the www)? I did make a change last night that could cause the url without the www to stop working. I created a couple of subdomains so I can test changes to improve the caching even more as I think during match days it's still not great."

Re: Admin assistance required please
Anyone else have loads of annoying symbols on the co.uk version. .net all is clear with apostrophes and ?üëç etc but co.uk text is full of I?¢¬Ä¬ôve
